The betas primary purpose is to stress and test the new system. As for Fileplanet, there is no better service for betas. They have a killer turnkey solution and there is no required usage of their sister companies tech. Fileplanet has massive bandwidth, a large vetted base of beta testers, and the ability to be agile when we have to change things.

I'm suprised nobody picked up on this at E3...

Here in the "great" Portugal we have trafic limits. i only have 4gb international a month... no BETA for me either. doubt they will give it to free accounts..

I save the subscription money to get the BETA's, and use it to buy the REAL GAME. it just takes longer :D

Epic once called Gamespy "Corporate community killers", and they were right on the money. Sure they may provide a 'good' service, but there are plenty of sites around with just as much bandwidth and services that could be used without giving Gamespy any custom.

Fileshack, Filefront etc have all hosted beta's with private forums, but the forums here could always be used.

Paying subscribers getting into a beta just gives you a large base of one type of people, impatient people with some disposable income. I remember the DoW beta and the feedback was pretty sparse apart from that given by regular community members.


Still, it is nice to have a beta, just not the "Pay to beta first!!" bit (especially when that money is going to gamespy.

Well lol 7 dollars is worth it to play company of heroes[even if it requires giving lamespy money] before other people. Also Fileplanet has very fast downloads, faster than filefront or fileshack. So I think it was worth it.

I guess it depends on a persons perspective. I pay a subscription to Fileplanet so I dont have to wait in line to download a demo. The betas are a bonus, but I am not paying for them as much as paying for FPs service.
