The Rite of Chaos------The Mecha BW

UE (Universial Era, counting from the year that human went to space) 1832. Mechas had become a popular tool of humanity, just like cars.
The United Earth Federation (UEF) and Galatical Colonial Union (GCU) lived in prosperity for long, after Humans had colonized through the space.
But the day when the first terror attack upon Utopus, capital of GCU in Saturn's orbit, it means the conflicts will grow among them.
The right-wing government of UEF, due to unknown reason, was the supporter of these terror attacks following the assassinations of mild officals among UEF, and they continued to launch terror attacks upon GCU. After repeated urges of investigation ended in failure, the GCU decided to give some warning signal to UEF by partial mobilization, but this gave UEF a perfect excuse to take the initiative and declared war on GCU, and the long war began.

The war itself was a stalemate however, considering both sides had similar technologies and matched manpower, so UEF tried to build secret Weapons of Mass-Destruction far behind the main lines in order to strike the heart of GCU once and for all. GCU, on the other hand, got this information by intelligence and they must act fast to break through the line and defeat UEF, or at least force for an armistice before it’s too late. But UEF also pressed on their attacks on the neutral zone between the 2 blocs’ sphere of influence, first upon Motarius, an agricultural planet which was vital if either side had to break through another’s line……

And the story begins.

OK, this Mecha BW will be a bit complicated in a sense, so I’ll try to explain as much as possible.
1. Everyone can sign up for a character as a civilian in Motarius, a mercenary, the side of GCU or UEF (though I expect most will go for GCU), with any personality.
2. No powergaming, that’s for sure. Suspect one? Just speak and I’ll deal with that.
3. One can switch side if he wishes, but cannot make sudden changes and have to do so progressively.
4. Other than during battles, everyone can do anything as they like such as dueling, dating, traveling, etc, but they had to bear the consequences that may follow.;)
5. I’ll take control of the high command of both sides for the plot, so don’t worry about major plots.
6. One can create their own mecha (if so, a picture of it will be appreciated) and weapons but must then specify what type they will be, or take one from existed, numerous mechas from any universe, or any source.
7. NO machines of main characters if you decide to take a mecha from other sources, only mass-production models can be used.
8. NO uber offensive/defense system or weapons can be taken (in particular, those saw in animes). Normal ones like Camofluge system, ECM, Countermeasures to Missiles, special types of armour, etc can be taken however, but there should be some balance for them.
(It’ll be possible for some rare NPC foes for using those “forbidden systems” when the story goes on however.)
9. Your mecha, or your character can get killed so that you can create another character for the plot or fun.
10. Everyone will only have 1 mecha at a time, even you got 10 auto-farming mechas at home you can only use 1.
These are the basics, I’ll add more later if applicable.

Mecha rules
Now speaking of mecha types, what they can do and what they can’t do and some of their specs as limits so that no one will go over that.

1. Mobile Suits
Height: <16m.
Weight: <Battlemechs but >Arm Slaves.
Movement type: Bipedal or multi-legs if more than 2, limited flying ability
Special: Can only carry melee weapons/handheld weapons, together with any small, integrated weapons.
Advantages: Can take a shield and most handheld weapons.
Disadvantages: Less agile than Arm Slaves, and hard to use heavy weapons.

2. Arm Slaves
Height: <10m.
Weight: >Battlesuits but <Mobile Suits.
Movement type: Bipedal, limited jumping ability
Special: Can carry melee weapons/handheld weapons (but not energy weapons), easily-modifiable OS, AI-supported.
Advantages: Most agile (but may not be the fastest) among all types, and they can use more high-tech equipments (at most 5 systems) than any other types (1 or 2 for Battlesuits, 2-3 for others).
Disadvantages: Armour is the most fragile other than Battlesuits, and their complexity in their designs means they’ll need constant maintenances or suffer from malfunction.

3. Battlemechs
Height: <20m.
Weight: Heaviest, between 20-100tons.
Movement type: Hover or walk on the ground.
Special: Though may have hands but cannot carry handheld/melee weapons, but can have little melee ability. Can carry all types of weapons otherwise.
Advantages: Insanely armed and armoured, means that they can possibly load up a hell load of weapons while withstanding all but strongest attacks on it, even melee weapons will find a hard time to deal with their armour.
Disadvantages: Slowest in any means, and they’re vulnerable to melee attacks.

4. Battlesuits/Power Armour
Height: Roughly man-sized at most 5m tall.
Weight: Lightest, maybe under 1 ton.
Movement type: Any, limited flying ability.
Special: Can carry melee weapons, heavy ranged weapons or explosives (from anti-mecha bombs to anti-personnel mines). Limited ability to carry energy weapons.
Advantages: Unseen to most mecha radar due to their small size, comparatively agile when facing a mecha means that they’re slient-but-deadly mecha killers. Can also hijack enemy mechas due to the pilots can just get out of the battlesuit if needed.
Disadvantages: Can be effectively destroyed by explosions nearby, or a direct shot from any weapons, or a step from other mechas.

Weapon types
1. Energy weapons (eg. Lasers)
Good: High armour penetration ability.
Bad: Can effectively drain up power reactors, and cause the mecha to overheat. Also the slowest to reload.

2. Ballistic Weapons (eg. Autocannons)
Good: Explosive in nature means that they’ll effectively cause damage on enemy armour. Can be fast-reloading weapons if specified.
Bad: Drain ammo fast, and may jam if thei firing speed is constantly high.

3. Missile Weapons
Good: Pin-point attacks since they’ve guided warheads. Can carry different payloads for the mission.
Bad: Unreliable as they’re vulnerable to countermeasures, and only small amount of ammo can be carried when comparing to Ballistic ones.

4. Projectile Weapons (eg. Gauss Weapons, artillery)
Good: Light ammo weight, generate little heat when comparing to other weapons, and have good damage against any armour types.
Bad: Slow reloading time, inaccurate when against mobile units since the projectiles need time to travel to the target.

5. Melee Weapons (eg. Monomolecular Cutters, fists, chainsaws, etc.)
Good: Can knock enemy units onto the ground if hit and attacker’s size is larger than the defender. Deal a lot of damage upon enemy mecha.
Bad: Very short range, obviously. The mecha can’t resist other attacks if attacking in melee since they had to concentrate upon the targeted mecha. The arm can’t carry other weapons if the melee weapon is integrated in the arm.

6. Handheld Weapons (eg. Machine Gun, Shields)
Good: Easy to use, can switch different weapons on demand.
Bad: These can be destroyed by a shot at them. Contain very little ammo and a mecha can’t carry too much backup magazines itself, and will drain up reactor if that weapon require mecha’s internal energy source or the weapon’s internal battery (Beam Sabers for example).

Equipment section
Armour: Bread and butter. Only Battlemechs can change armour types to energy-resistant, ballistic-resistant (Phase Shift Armour, for example) or other else.
Shields: Only Mobile Suits can use
AI: Arm Slaves already have internal AI for targeting, situation reporting, etc. to cover their disadvantages. Others can mount one if needed, but note that there won’t be too much as only elites can have an AI system in both sides.
Radar: All have it for 1km, but Mobile Suits’ ones have the longest range (1.5km) and most resistant to jamming.
Number of pilots: Normally only 1, up to 2 for Battlemechs or Mobile Suits.
Special systems: Not much limits except for those written above.

A note on camofluge systems:
1. Camofluged units can’t fire, or doing any sort of attacks, in the same manner of Stealth Tanks in C&C series.
2. Anti-camofluge systems’ range can’t go over 2/3 of their normal radar.

Common: Drive another side out of the planet. (Whoever wins will affect its sequels)

UEF: Control at least Seagazer and Dromenold to attack Cerena directly, where the strongest GCU forces positioned. Relies on mass-numbering of units to overwhelm her enemies.
GCU: Control Seagazer and Grantus for jumping on Wulord, then Hart, and Twin Star Island. Quite hard since GCU is relying on small, elite force for her military.

"Wakies, Adra."

The runner cursed as he slowly swam into conciousness, to find Electa sitting at the foot of his bed. "What time is it?"

"5:32 and fourty-one seconds, as of Motarius standard time," Electra said promptly.

"Terra damnit," Adra muttered. "What's up?"

"I think the captain's got a mission for you," the AI said playfully. "So I want you up and ready."

"Alright," he said. "But leave me alone while I dress."

"Why?" Electra asked innocently, cocking her head.

"We've had that conversation before," Adra said.

"I've been with you for five years and you still haven't explained half your stupid human traditions," Electra grumbled, fading from view.
***
"Electra said you had a briefing for me," Adra began.

Balessa looked up. "Early as ever, Senaris. She does keep you organised. Yes, and it's fairly straightforwards."

"Good. What's the situation?"

"Nothing exiting," the captain cautioned. "As you know, the UEF has the advantage of substantial numbers, but we lack elite strike forces that can be easily brought to bear. In fact, we the Wolfpack are one of the only elite strike forces the UEF has."

"Right."

"Well, command's finally decided that has to change. They're hiring elite mercenary wings from all over the district. We've contacted one promising looking wing. Negotiations are in place, though not yet finalised. Their last condition is that one of our runners brings them the cash and finalises the details, through the Porjus slums of Idrika. As you know, that city is less than safe- full of renegade runners and mech-killing blind alleys. I think this may be an order of test, so I selected you to pass. The W-5 is ideally outfitted for such close conditions, and I trust your skills."

Adra grunted. "I see. I don't like dealing with merc scum. But if that's the mission."

She nodded. "That's the mission. You'll be dropped in the perimeter of Idrika by ship, and will have to work your way in from there. We've uploaded the data into Electra- she can handle navigation. Good luck."
***
"Okay," Adra said, buckling himself in. "Begin reactor shakedown."

"Beginning phase one power-up proceedures," Electa said, manifesting on his lap. She smiled as he shifted awkwardly. "Initialising systems check."

"Check status?"

"Reactor warming up, now at phase two. Clamps, check. Plate, check. Weapons, check. Navigations, check. Point defence, check. Locomotion, check. Radar, check. AI, check. Runner, check. All systems are green, initialising control engage."

The various systems and readouts in front of Adra flared green, coming to life as he punched in the bone-deep initialisation commands. "All systems green," he confirmed.

"Approaching dropzone," Electra said. "Reactor is running smooth at phrase three, full power output. Beginning finalisation proceedures." She faded away, directly intergrating herself with the entirity of the frame's systems.

"Somewhere dramatic music's playing," Adra said dryly.

"Over the dropzone," Electra said. "Opening hatch, go!"

The massive battleframe lumbered forwards and dropped out of the cradle dropship, its descent slowed and controlled by thrusters. It landed heavily, bending at the knees, then stood, swinging smoothly towards the waypoint. "Let's do this," Adra muttered.

Serge finished filling up the fuel tank from a gerry can, then threw it over his shoulder and pulled himself up through the access hatch, closing it behind him. He checked everything in the cockpit was strapped down before lighting a cigarette from an antique Zippo and flipping the ignition switch.

"All systems active" chimed a voice that wouldn't have sounded out of place in a wrinkle cream advert. 'Mom' was the Battlemech AI. When he had... recieved Desperado, Serge had tried as hard as possible to change the AI voice, adjusting the pitch and smoothing out the voice, but in the end she still sounded pretty much the same but with the kind of tone that could say "I sound ten years younger!"

So much for alluring and sexy, Serge had thought. The only things this AI makes me think about are homebaked cookies.

"Running systems check" said she. Serge let Mom carry out her task and glanced at his watch. Time to get back to base...

Daniel walked through to find his battlesuit, he hadn't seen it before and had a child like excitement in his stomach, the kind when you find it fun to smash bugs open, afterwards he found it.

"The serpent" Daniel thought "bit small...ah well".

Daniel got in the open back of the suit, and put his hands into the arm's, as soon as he did, the back closed up.

*Scanning.......UEF Pilot Detected*, the voice was a bit evil sounding.

*Identification confirmed.....*

*Equipment check.......everything is 100%......stealth field......not found.......caution, recommended stealth field installiation...*

Daniel was getting impatient "Just let me move...cabal"

*Name designated......Chaingun ammunition full......sniper rifle bullets.....15*.

The battlesuit suddenly came to life, it felt like a new skin to Daniel.
*Recommended Systems 3, 6, and 25 unactivated*
"What are those Systems?"

*System 3: Advanced targeting....System 6.... Radar....System 25....Melee attachment*
"None of those are needed".

*General damage status 90.14%, recommend immediate ejection to prevent injury.*
The voice of the AI flew around Leoius Kernesky's ears.
"Recommendation rejected. Retain battle mode, do a weapon check."
*Roger. Heavy Gauss Rifle: out of ammo. Large Pulse Lasers in arms: destroyed. Autocannon: 23 rounds left in each gun.*
"That's far more than enough. Auto targeting system engaged, ECM and BAP at maximum."
*Roger.*
The Fafnir Mark II continued its slow but powerful advance toward the difficult terrain of sand dunes.
"ECS can't work in this environment well, so let's do some trick......Shut down the engine, go into crawl mode."
*Roger.*
The huge battlemech slowed down, and finally stopped and bowed down in the desert. It didn't even make a noise.
He patiently waited for his prey. His final enemy was a M9 with 40mm Assault Rifle, of which he'll notice its presence if it approach, and he was right.
*Reported unknown activity in N32.5"E, distance 360m.*
"AI support firing mode engaged, engine set off, set course N32.5"E at full speed."
*Roger.*
The huge mech stood up and went for its prey. Its enemy seemed also found it as well, and prepared to escape......
"Too late!"
The Autocannon fired at the enemy, but not directly hitting it. Instead, it splashed up sands and covered the enemy with sand.
*Marked enemy at N28.3"E, distance 386m.*
"Autocannon, fire!"
The remaining autocannon rounds were unleashed upon the enemy M9, hitting directly at its reactor and exploded.

"Games over."
Leoius got out from his Combat Simulator and called others to come out as well.
"Are you cheating man? How come we'll still being defeated by 4 to 1 battle......" Fred Wright shouted.
"That's the difference between a team leader and teammate." Leoius simply answered.

Though there're no special activities in Seagazer-Dromenold border------in fact, even the UEF dared not to touch that neutral state at this moment.

"Curse these narrow streets," Adra muttered, watching the scanners tensely as he directed the Wombat deeper into the slums.

"I am keeping a high strength scanning sweep," Electra confirmed. "Nonetheless, all sensors are to some degree obscured, and we will not be able to confirm any mecha as enemy until they fire on us. There are many battlesuits and the like in particular, which could cause some damage in a first strike. I need not remind you that this mech is primarily designed for forwards combat and will suffer if attacked from multiple angles at once."

"I know that," Adra said impatiently. "But if any of those little toys attack us, they'll die."

"Confirmed that we have weapons superiority over most mecha here to a degree of around 182%. Remember that the objective, on the other hand, runs a battlemech of comparable size and firepower to the Wombat, and is also assisted by a wing of similar machines."

"I know," Adra said. "Mercanaries are not idealists, however. I've yet to see that this is anything other than what it simply seems."

"Yet you keep a good eye on the scanners," Electra said playfully.

He just grunted.

"Pretty quiet today Chief."

"Yep, pretty quiet. Might even last for the whole day." Klaus lied.

When you used giant robots to fight wars there was no such thing as a quiet day. Since the squadron only had two veterans besides Klaus to eight newbies, Klaus felt that freaking them out was a bad idea.

The slums were a miserable sort of place to fight. Lots of hiding places for infantry and armored vehicles. The buildings screwed around with scanners. In general it was an optimal fighting place for everything EXCEPT mechs.

"Sir, we have an incoming group of friendlys, callsign.... Wombat."

"Wombat? Never heard of that kind of mech. Get them on radio."

"Roger that, Wombat unit, please respond, this is Beta squadron 1st company 15th Z-17th regiment, please respond."

"Beta Squadron, this is Senaris, runner of a W-5. I'm with the Wolfpack, currently alone on an assignment to pick up a mercenary mech unit."

Electra took up the narrative. "Our presence should not trouble you," she said. "This is expected to be a fairly straightforwards assignment. Nonetheless, I have flagged your position and frequency and hope you may be able to reinforce us in the unlikely event that we come under some kind of attack. Visibility, as you know, is low, so I haven't eliminated the possibility."

Klaus88
4th Jul 06, 8:21 AM
"I wouldn't count on it W-5. We're here on assigment to chase down a rogue battlemech. Apparently the driver went insane and destoryed an entire village. So high command in a questure of good will sent in us to make things right. We've been here for four days straight and I'm begining to think the whole thing was a sop story made up by GUF spies...."

THat was when the battlemech crashed through a building nearby and began warming up it's gatling weapons.

"SHIT! CONTACT CONTACT! ROGUE BATTLE MECH SPOTTED REQUEST SUPPORT! WHAT NO! HEL-"

"God damn it!" Adra pounded the control panel with his fist. "What the hell do we do now?"

"This does not change our mission directives," Electra said cooly. "We should continue with our primary objective."

"But they're under attack," Adra said. "Directives state that we should reinforce and aid our brethren. We would expect that of them if we were under attack..."

"We as a battlefield unit are more important than them," Electra said. "That is the nature of this army. Our mission is carefully timetabled within strict parameters and it would not do to compromise that. The strenght of their squad should be more than sufficent to handle a single battlemech. If that was not the case, the Wombat would likely be overbourn as well. Most importantly, this engagement is likely to be finished long before we arrive at ground zero. It would only waste time to try and help them. Considering all this, my analysis indicates that the best logical course is to continue with the mission."

Adra sighed and considered. "Maybe I'm getting too old for this," he said eventually. The sharp, callous soldier of yore would have had no problems letting them alone. "But this is just an errand anyway. Set a course to the combat zone, the mercs can wait a few minutes."

"This is not wise," Electra said. "But psycologically not following your choice could leave some damage. I have plotted the fastest course; but it goes over the rooftops. Enjoy the bumpy ride," she said, still deadpan.

"Alright," Adra grunted, swinging the mech around. "Let's go." He engaged the jump controls and forced his mech up onto a slum building. "This is not safe," he said, plotting their next jump and engaging, before sending the mech loaping off in the direction of the combat.

"Beta squad, W-5 is inbound," Electra announced. "We may not arrive in time, so please indicate if you have dealt with your foe. We are damaging our mission timetable in doing this."

Klaus88
4th Jul 06, 8:38 AM
There was more static for a bit then finally Klaus responded, "NO we have not dealt with the verdamnit thing yet W-5! The stupid mech has some kind of energy shield that our bullets are bouncing off! Tannor check the systems inside Physallis as it flew over neutral teritory on a test flight. Hopefully the modfications to the verniers would allow better manueverablity at less reactor cost.

"X could you switch power off from beam weapon systems 1 and 2 and shunt them to vernier systems 1 through 8" said Tannnor.

X replied, "Done. Shall I begin the test now?"

Tannor smiled and said, "Yeah lets get it started. Missile systems 1 through 4 set target to Physallis and begin homing 1.5 seconds after launch. X initiate full vernier mode and AI assistance."

X acknoledged as ports on the mechs arms and back opened and launched missiles that fell for a while then began flying at the Physallis. The machine roared to a higher speed as the multiple vernier on the mech came to life. Tannor braced himself for the upcoming acceleration and Ges. He began a roll as the missiles drew closer as the first swarm of them hit there afterburners to catch the mech.

Tannor let the first batch get close then pulled a straight up and took another roll down flying past the missiles as the last of there fuel faded and they exploded. Tannor felt gees pull on him as X planed the next evasion. It was tough but he did have an advantage over most opponents. The second swarm got close and the mech took a dive down heading towards the ground.

Tannor swore and yelled, "X, I hate it when you do this."

The AI grined as the machine continued to fall as the missles ran out of fuel. Instead of bursting off the second they ran out the mech turned around and pointed its two arms up at the missles. Tannor turned the beam rifles on and began targeting a cluster at a time. 1 shot 2 missles down after a few shots all where gone and he pulled out of the dive heading back towards Dromenold and the Hanger.

"We're coming as fast as we can," Adra assured him. "This thing isn't built for speed, or these conditions. Electra, get me an ETA."

"We should hit ground zero in approximately thirty seconds, terrain holding," Electra said. "Falling through a roof could cause significant slowdown."

"Don't tempt fate. Warm up the autocannons."

"Activating. But I suggest we do not arrive at the combat zone on the roof. We would be exposed against the horizon and vulnerable to easy damage."

Adra's hands tightened around the control stick. "I think we both know what you're talking about."

The Wombat leapt from the rooftop, landing heavily and charging towards the building opposite. Adra fired a burst from all eight cannons into it, riddling the front with holes, then he accelerated to maximum and crashed through the building.

"Enemy sensors will not pin us down until we are well through," Electra said unesecarrily. "Much will rely on this first strike."

The Wombat smashed through the other side, the building collapsing around it, instantly swivelling and targetting the enemy as it strode from the ruins. Adra quickly snatched a field of fire and unleashed a hammering volley of autocannon rounds. Then his sights were obscured by an allied mech and he jumped to gain a clear view again. This battle had just begun.

OOC: Both of them were assumed to be posted at the bases, and those who got out of the bases won't know unless radio calls.

Sirens raised at Stargazer base, near Dromenold-Seagazer Border.
"What's that?" Tom Wright asked.
"Enemy attacks?" Sandra Fearion continued but interrupted by Kong Weasley, "That's not possible, our base should have detected that."
Then they saw Leoius returned to their party.
"Leo, what happened?" Sandra asked him.
"Pack your stuff up, we're moving out."

"To the war."

The five mechs of Deathwing team soon loaded on a Talon-class Dropship, which soon took off from the ground.

OOC: The Daishi: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/4632167/ (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/4632167/).

I also don't intend to use the Star outside of this opening introduction. They're just there for show. ;p

IC

Jaime smiled slightly as the power core of his Dire Wolf omnimech spurred to life alongside the other four 'mechs of his Star. They didn't often serve together; even now, he doubted more than one of them would get employed on the nigh-extortionate rates they charged - so understandably, most never got to see the fact that even one of them was well worth it.

The Daishi - its more common name; when not referred to as the 'Great Death' - was slow, often cumbersome, and there were limits to the grace even a veteran mechwarrior like Winters could instill into its myomer muscles and metallic limbs. But it had more firepower and more armour than any other 'mech he'd ever seen - and the fact it was an omnimech meant that its weapons configuration was more easily altered; even beneath the 14.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armour that shielded the Daishi from harm.

Beside him, two of his starmates; and their respective omnimechs - a Nova Cat and a Timber Wolf - powered up and moved in alongside him, with their fire support (a Longbow and a Catapult) bringing up the rear. They weren't there to fight - not yet, at least. But they looked impressive, all the same - and a fighting force of three omnimechs, two battlemechs, all organized into a cohesive Star, was a force to be reckoned with. It was rather doubtful anyone would even dare look twice at them; let alone actually open fire.

"Oh man we went to all that trouble to hunt the damn thing down and he just blew himself up! ****ing manic!" Complained one of Klaus's squadron.

"Shut up." Growled Klaus.

Great. One mech completely destoryed and another one would need weeks before it was battle ready again. The other two had a few holes and dents but they were still in good shape.

"Thanks for coming to help W-5. I hope you don't mind if we tag along with you. Your mech looks like it can actually stand up in a straight one on one fight with those damn GCU mechs. Maybe High command is finally starting to figure out that numbers alone don't win fights."

"So Cpt. Storms, you clear with that?"

"Yessiree" replied Serge informally to his superior. "Just give me a map and I'll be off."

Major Halon rolled his eyes as Serge left the room. He speculated on whether Serge even knew the meaning of the words 'dicipline' and 'insubordination' and sighed. Either way, he was one of the best pilots they had and none of it mattered just as long as Serge did his job...

***

Right, thought Serge as he approached a place marked 'Easterlings' on the map. Time to gear up.

"Mom, run a weapons check will yer?"

"Affirmative" came the reply. "All weapons functioning at optimum rates..."

Serge half-listened as Mom ran down the list of ammunition, coolant supplies and the like. It was never really important in these battles anyway. Something always blew.

"Thanks Mom" he said as Mom finished her report. He swept his scarf around his shoulders and grinned. "It's showtime."

OOC: There is no "Wombat squad"! The Wolfpack atypically is split up to fight alone, they only rarely converge to hunt prey. Like wolves. :D Right now, Adra is alone- apart from Klaus, naturally.

IC: "There's still not enough of us," Adra said regretfully. "Maybe if we have enough time, but that's not important right now. You can stay close to me if you like, you can hardly slow something lumbering like my baby down, but we're going to have to move as fast as possible. I'm behind schedual."

"Transmission incoming," Electra warned. "Patching through."

"Senaris, this is W-1. We have a problem. High command has ordered a big push in this sector, and we only just heard about it. The Wolfpack is scattered everywhere, on various kinds of errands."

Adra grunted. "Unbelievable. Did they even stop to consider that I'd been given another mission on the same damn day."

"Between you me, Adra, I think this is a beaurocratic screw up. They've been keeping everyone, even elites like us, in the dark about this op, and the enemy still has found out. It's ridiculous."

"Damn. Thank you, captain. I'll complete my assigned mission and then prepare for battle wherever I'm needed."

Electra relayed the news to Klaus and his men, minus the commentry.

Adra sighed and swivled his mech. "Okay, let's move out. We're going to meet some mercs, and we don't have much time." His mech lumbered in the direction of the rendezvous point.

OOC: Yay missions

Tannor was inside his hanger when a GCU came running up to him holding a datapad.

The soilder saluted and said, "Orders from Command. You are to launch immediately with all machines that are capable of fighting. UEF launched a suprise attack on Pourjus."

Tannor gave a mock salute back as the soilder turned around and headed for the other facility. He motioned 4 robots over and told them to get ready for combat and watched them head off for there suits.

X came over in his powersuit and said, "Finally some really fighting! Physallis if fully preped and ready for launch shall I board it?"

Tannor nodded and replied as he began heading towards the suit, "Do so and make sure the Hizacks and Gaplants get the mission specs."

He reached the platform and was elevated to the cockpit where he got in and began to warm up the systems. Tannor double checked everything while X integrated and walked the suit outside with the other two Gaplants. The two Hizacks went to the roof where a suit catapault was placed. Both attached and where launched letting there boosters give them the extra push to get ahead of the flyers. The three Gaplants jumped into the air and began to hover for a while before they switched into flight mode and began heading towards the combat zone.

Tannor signaled over the comm, "Ok everyone head for Easterling and from there await further orders from me, X or GCU officers. Hizacks you have permission to use excessive boosters to keep up we will meet you there. Gaplant 2 go ahead and scout the area ahead of us then meet up with the Hizacks. Gaplant 1 stay with me."

4 mechanical sounding voices came over the comm saying, "Affirmative. Combat situation confirmed."

OOC: *shrugs*. Maybe. ;). Though I don't think there was ever anyone called exactly Jaime Winters in Battletech, ;p. In all seriousness, though... I joined in something of a rush, and I felt that roleplaying someone who was basically a Clanner in a different setting might be rather fun regardless. The most unoriginal character I've ever roleplayed he most certainly is, and probably the most unoriginal one I will ever roleplay. But there ya go. My mind's been in too much disarray lately to conceive of anything that's even vaguely original.

IC:

"So they're here; took them long enough, but at least their little display over there's assured us they probably won't screw us over the second it might net them an advantage." Tarys muttered over the comm. system; Jaime muttered an affiimative, then opened a channel to the Wombat.

"Jaime Winters, at your service - for a price, of course. Which I suppose is something you'll be unable to negotiate much on, what with this big push you've got going on - about that, by the way; it certainly seems like one of the worst-kept secrets in history, doesn't it?"

Gaia had watched as the UEF stormed Porjous, it had been unexpected and many of the GCU operatives had not been able to relay the info quick enough. Gaia kicked herself for the fault, she could have done it. But she wasn't going to ponder over the past, the present was a hellish battlefield. Lumbering mechs were storming the city, and she had picked the ripest for intel missions, she would not only find out who was organising this lot but then find out where they were going too.

She leapt off the building she had been on and onto a UEF mech, her active camo still on, the UEF registered a thermal, possibly its own vents flairing and a simultaneous rubble impact, nothing more. It was like child's play, if Gaia had ever been a child that is.

After lengthy preparations the dropships were in the air. During the flight the pilots heard about the operation. "We are to land in Agryland city. We are then to move into Silent Town. We hope to slow UEF forces from moving closer to Navigator. Battlesuits and Arm Slaves will land first, followed by Mobile Suits and Battle Mechs. Understood?" said the person. OOC: Where exactly is the beamoth? ;)

IC: "Beamoth, situation is we're about to be locked into a large pitched battle," Adra noted. "This is W-5, of the Wolfpack. I am nominally leading a combat team of mecha towards Observer. We'll need to secure that town, and it looks like there'll be heavy resistance. Electra, give me a sit-rep."

Electra adressed all the "squad". "The city perimeter may well have already been secured by GCU armed forces. If so, we will have to break in under fire. The Wombat is designated for close quaters combat and I generally compute that our tempoary field wing is better at short-range combat all told, with only a few long range missile weapons at our disposal. Therefore our stratgem should be to reach and contest the city itself as soon as we can."

Adra drummed his fingers. "We may have to move in under fire," he observed. "A less than ideal situation. If I may, Runner Winters, your mech isn't the fastest in the world, but it is as well suited to ranged combat as any of the frames we have. If you provide supression fire with missiles and Gauss, then the rest of us can advance on the perimeter. Once we have a foothold, you can move in and reinforce us for the push."

Electra spoke again. "I do believe the terrain can be utilised to our advantage," she said. "This sand has poor constitution and while that slows our mecha down, we can also use it to provide cover. With our engines on full for maximum pace of advance and our exaust vents directed downwards, we should throw up a blanket of sand even more substantial than the one we are currently generating, which should provide at least a little protection from enemy firepower. Of course, doing so nesecitates that we advance on a different plane from Reaper's angle of fire."

Aiming at the enemies in a distance, Sandra and Kong aimed at the Wolves of UEF, as they can see their markings on their mecha by their AS Sniper Rifle, a long-range sniping weapon good at dealing with enemy mechs. Without hesistation they fired at will, and slowly reposition to nearest cover.

"Target aquired" chimed Mom as Desperado flew up over an embankment like an avenging angel.

A small powered suit raised its weapons but Serge blasted it into scrap metal and red mist with a quick blast of the autocannons. He turned just as an 80 ton battlemech pounded up the embankment.

"Lemmee see... rocket pods, autocannon, laser cannon. Nice."

The Battlemech leaned down at the waist as it sized up Desperado. He could see a pilot grinning down at him through the enormous machine's cockpit. Serge returned the grin and threw in a finger gesture.

"I got it. Whats his armour like on the right side?" Rykial asked. "Favorable, just slam your knife straight through, that would disable his cooling system. Hopefully destroying that will fry him." Ella said.

The M9 lept from inside a small trench. Jumping to the right whilst firing a wiregun at a cliff to the left. during the jump Rykial fired the last of his ammo at the mech and then wheeled in the wire causing the M9 to change direction in mid air. Winters shrugged.
"I'm not exactly adept at 'suppression fire'," he said the two words with disdain, punctuating each syllable with mild scorn. "Nor are Gauss Rifles something you can provide suppression fire with; but perhaps our specifications differ. I'd be more effective in the frontal push; fourteen tons of armour is, after all, something that is rather useful for enduring frontline combat. Still, if you insist on me staying back where I can be of little use..." he trailed off, then finished, "... it's your money, after all."

The Daishi turned, the monolithic war machine slowly and deliberately changing its facing and beginning its advance towards the 'field, all weapons barrels hot and pointing ominously forward; he hadn't yet seen a 'mech that could outshoot the Daishi without significant aid. And he doubted he ever would. When combined with Winters' uncanny predilection for accuracy, that generally meant that any 'Mech caught in Reaper's sights tended to end up dead.

"I'm making the best of a bad situation," Adra said impatiently to Winters. "We don't have any specilised long range mecha here, we do need some support fire, you have missiles and aren't integral to the rookie squad. We don't have many tactical options. Just keep out of our direct line of advance and follow up yourself, firing as you go- we should be moving faster than you'd be able to keep up anyway. Everyone, secure the city. Chasing them on the plains just mean's we'll never catch them. Move!"

He bounded the Wombat over the hill and aimed for the city, swivelling to unleash bursts of fire at the enemy as he went. The exaust vents spewed out waste gases, throwing up a dazzling cloak of sand that masked his guns and presumably the enemy's as well. But his course was set firm for the city and he;s be there soon enough...

IC: Adra gunned the Wombat to cover the final meters, leaping into the perimeter of the city and rapidly making a scanner sweep.

"Nothing to be seen so far," Electra said. "I have mapped the city and suggest we take up defensive positions at a comm tower three streets away. It acts as a convergence point for three seperate major roads, and will provide an ideal station for agressive counterattack of any enemies in the area. Once reinforcements arrive, we can secure the city to a greater degree and press on. Sending our coordinates to friendly units now."

Adra moved the Wombat into a fire position by the comm tower, ready to leap into combat. This op had started fairly quiet, but might get a lot hotter.

*Roger.*

The 2 sniping M9 used their AS Sniper Rifle to shoot at Wombat at its lges, while Wright Brothers' M9 dashed forward and interchanged their position frequently while shooting with their Assault Rifle. The last one came up was the Fafnir MK2, which unleashed Pulse Laser rounds, Autocannons and Heavy Gauss Rifles at Wombat.

Suffice to say I'm confused. I've put you into a street because that makes some kind of sense and doesn't involve time travel.

IC: Adar cursed as the Wombat shook, taking cover in the ruins of the comm tower. "Status!"

"We have taken some hits," Electra noted. "Sniper rounds to the legs did some superficial damage to our motive systems, but not enough to severely compromise combat efficency. Chest armour has been weakened by about 30% all told by laser and autocannon fire, but as we were on the move the damage was dispersed."

Adra punched in a few commands. "Moving to crouched formation behind cover," he said, the Wombat protecting its wounded chest section and narrowing its profile for the enemy to fire at. "Now we return fire." He locked onto the Fafnir with all eight autocannons. "The moment that damn Gauss cannon cycles to fire again, jump to this location," he said to Electra, indicating another piece of hard cover not too far away. "In the meantime..." he opened fire, sending a torrent of shells at the heavy enemy he was facing. "We stay in the hevay cover here and engage."

Scyth saw the GCU patrol coming towards the town and left his harvester. He walked to the road and waited for the mechas to pass. Once they did he made a bolt for it down the road and then cut through to the center of a overgrown feild. He opened a hidden door that went to the towns underground network of tunnels, he sprinted down then turned in the third corridor to where the battle suits were kept. He found his and entered.

"Good to see you sir, three GCU mechas have entered in the town limits."

"I know, start up and send a measeage to HQ to jam comunication on my mark."
A few minutes later the AI spoke again.
"All done, HQ acknowledges you and are ready for orders."

"Good, lets head for chute 4. This could get ugly."

OOC: DAmn, I thought you're with your squad all along.:wtf:
It really doesn't matter if you place me where though, since I'm just at the city's outskirt......
Edit: Which city you're at, omega?

IC:
"Autocannons! Evasive manuver!" Leoius shouted.
*Too late.*
Explosions spread all over the front of Fafnir, the rapid autocannon rounds managed to deal some damage to the monster.
"Covering fire!" Leoius commanded as the mech moved back while Sandra and Kong targeted at Wombat and shot with their anti-armour, AS Sniper Rifle once more. Wombat had lowered its profile so that critical points were unseen, but from the firings some part of it can still be seen------its left arm.
"Status?"
*Center Torso damage 16.7%, Left Torso 13.3%, Right Torso 12.6%, can remain in battle.*
"Good, we gotta take some cover. Move to the hole near Wright Brothers."
*Roger.*
The slow monster moved to the designated position and sat down to lower his profile.
"This is Leoius of the Deathwings, we're under attack from UEF mech, quantity 1 at Observer. Backup needed."

OOC: My own little city for the time being. It is just a farming community to everyone else but the people who live there are all terrorists that at night retreat to the underground network of tunnels where they transport and market illegal weapons and goods. I have yet to name it though...

Alert sounds rang in the GCU base. "All personel, this is an emergency! Please move to your mech and await further instructions." Nick woke up and runned to his battlesuit, finding that it was under reapir. "Oh damn, not again." He said. "Now I'll have to fix this myself." He Luckily it was fixed, but just left plugged into the machine. Nick quickly unplugged and readied it. He hopped in and strated it. "Hey! Where's my gun?" He said. He ranned ouyt of the room and down the corridor to the armoury. "I need a Enforcer sniper! Quickly!" He shouted. A machine brought him the weapon. Nick ran back up and to the hangar. "Nick Anderson reporting!" He said and saluted the commander. "Ah you just missed the dropships." commander said. "But there are a few going straight to Oberserver. You will get in to that." "Damn." Nick said. "Guess I'll have to wait."

ooc: Reinforcements have a arrived. :D

OOC: Omega, you gotta stick "your town" with an existing one for reference.
And this is my last post before the camp;)

IC:
The Deathwing squad went for retreat after received some enemy fire, and they got into a cave nearby with ECS and ECM at the maximum, then get their reactor downed.

OOC: I assumed that they won't be found by anyone at now:P
The rest can continue their fighting.
