View Full Version : Shared Resources On or Off?

As the thread title - do you play with shared resources on or off, and why.

Personally, I've always played with shared resources on, just because it was the default setting. Having discovered exactly what it does, I tend to turn it off now because if one person doesn't cap his points, then the whole team doesn't suffer. If you need req/power, you can always ask for it, so that's not an issue. I think it just cuts down on the overall resources given to each team, which is a good thing IMO, because resource management becomes a big part of the game again.

Ya, pretty much what Viq said, but especially if playing with AI allies, if you build any generators, they just leech off you for the first 10 minutes or so and leave you short...

Perhaps I'm one of the few guys who haven't discovered the "potential" of this mp option.

So could you tell me what Shared Res exactly does?

I like to leave on res sharing because it encourages team work... or rather, it works in my favour because I almost always play with people I know :p

Really, it does give off more resources. For example, in a 2vs2 game each gen one person builds only give 6+ power. It really gives 12+ power in total, but is split between 2 people. Unless you have an ignorant teammate, you can ask for some power back and end up with more resources. Really, like I said before, you have to work together to take advantage of it and thus the team that works the best with each other gets an advantage. I just like to encourage teamwork, 'tis all :)

Each players res. and power income is increased by 20% and then split between all team members, so for each point you control, (in a 2v2 for example) you get +6 req. rate and your ally gets +6, and the same for each point they hold.. so overall more req. is genrated...

the problem is if just you build a generator, you get +6 power and your ally gets +6 power, this could be enough for them, it usually is for the AI, so they don't build a generator, so you've spent lots of req on getting less than the usual amount of power, bad thing if you are Eldar or IG...

[edit] damn, typed too slow and got beaten to it...

And then your ask your ally for energy or a gen. They refuse? They'll go down with you anyway.

Going to move you to strategy. As this definatly qualifies. With secondary benefits of a longer life!

it can be a bonus though, if both allies have the same build stratagy, like if you both build a gen, then you are getting +12 power, but if shared res wasnt on, you both would only be getting +10

but either way i dont depend on that so i voted off

I like it off when playing team games. The reason being it stretchs out the tiers a bit makes for a more fun game. When its on I can basically get to tech 3 in 10 minutes no problem. Where as if I'm playing and it's off I'll probably be in tech 2 for about 15 min of the game. I like the feel of it becuase it demands a lil more skill becuase your resources are limited to your own.

I chose that I personally like to turn it on but in most games people ask me to turn it off. No one trusts each other and it IS fairly hard to coordinate with people you don t know. Its enough that I gotta micro here and their but I also gotta watch who is building what so I know how to redistribute my resources of which 10% is penalized?

You always get this one guy in the corner who NORMALLY is just a regular noob techer and goes for like 3 gens straight and then when he realizes his power production is only like 12 after 3 generators he goes off and builds like 3 more LOLz... its hilarious hahaa. And they are . ... .haha .. .. . always lik....e ... . .. "WTF where did my power go!" and everyone else is like tier 2 after 6 minutes into the game without a single power gen LOLZORZ.....

I really like having it on because then it doesn't matter which one of us takes a SP. I always play with the same guy on my team so we are pretty good about not leaving a SP un captured. The other thing I like about it is that loosing a litening post hurts us equally and not as big of a blow.

Off.

When ever I join a game with shared res on... its 99% of the time by accident that I didnt notice at the start... then 30 seconds in I am kicking myself for not checking game settings.

The next thing I do is turtle up and drop gens like there is now tomorrow... while telling my allies what I am up to and why. I actually encourage them to leech off me and focus on offense. Works more times than not. (not sure about 1.5 though... but it seems like the same paradigm.)

On, when playing multiplayer, it's a team game and this adds to the team playing element.

But I don't mind playing with it off.

Off, so that if my allies start losing generators and SPs to an offensive enemy, I don't have to suffer for it. I hate it when an ally manages to stay alive with a single building in my base, but has no SPs or generators, effectively halving my resource rate.

Off

Ill add another reason for it being off aside from the leecher aspect. In large team games 3v3/4v4 if 1 team mate gets raped and his economy gets screwed it screws the entire team. He sucks res and power from the teamates who have not lost thier base. Say Im Chaos and reach teir 3 just as an allies base is over run. He starts rebuilding, but he is getting the same power/res as I am so I cant mass produce PSM or Oblits to try and kill 1 of the nme team.

On.

I find it creates more of a team atmosphere, where we all need to fight for resources together. I understand why people would want it off though. If someone builds a thermo gen, I will often donate some power back to them to help them tech. There have been times where I have been almost eliminated, and while waiting for my new rax/HQ to build I'll donate my resources to whichever player is currently spamming out the most T3 infantry :)
