Perhaps they're getting a new site ready to put up...

Domain Whois records for homeworld2.com were updated on the 29th of November.

http://www.sierra.com/games/homeworld2/ works. i think sierra are just mucking about with their site structure. in fact, as you can see - they are introducing a new site design.

At best, they're prepping to update the site.
At worst Homeworld 2's been officially shitcanned.
What's probably happening is just what Reki indicated.

You will, however, notice that Homeworld 2 is not listed on the upcoming strategy games list (http://www.sierra.com/games/strategy-up.php). But Homeworld 2 is still listed in the Strategy Games drop down list, and that it selecting that URL puts you do the Sierra page.

Maybe he was making an intentionally witty comment the first time sir! You obviously figured out that he wasn't making a joke!

Here's my crazy theory: Relic has been negotiating with Sierra for some time to cut the cords and publish HW2 independently (or with another publisher, perhaps Microsoft). They keep getting close to an agreement, promise to make an announcement, and then there's a setback (and they can't legally say anything). Meanwhile, Sierra is gradually removing all the Homeworld references from its websites.
Don't believe it? Me neither.
My alternate crazy theory is that both Relic and Sierra are helmed by cackling mobs of fools.

I just got a response back from Sierra. Seems that it was routine...

Still, it would be cool if they used Microsoft instead of Sierra. I really don't care that they're a monopoly, it's just business at it's best.

Microsoft might be better. They seem to have more trust in Relic's skill at making games, as they picked up Impossible Creatures when Sierra thought it was to risky. If Sierra dosen't publish HW2, I'm sure Microsoft would want to. I don't trust Sierra.

I have more trust in Sierra than I have trust for microsoft. MS would do something to HW which none of us would like. And sierra will produce it eventually I hope:confused:

I like Microsoft! Sure, they are a "monopoly" but one thing you always have when you buy a Microsoft product (well, almost always), compatability. I hope Microsoft does take it over:p

Microsoft is a FAR better publisher for games. Sierra kills projects, and the execs there have no confidence in anything not a Half Life clone. MS has the cash to take risks, and they're willing to let developers do it.

And the Zone is better than WON ? Yes Sierra has problems, but I do not trust microsoft. Yes they have money, but you cannot throw money at something and make it better. It certanly helps :D Microsoft has flaws too. They might make MP cost money :(

The topic has been addressed, the HW2 website is back up.
This is not going to turn into the 45th hypothetical discussion on seirra vs microsoft who is better-who is worse, who is to blame discussion.
