Beta-Related Rumor, looking for confimration/denial

I was tole by the oh-so ignorant THQ booth staff at Comic-Con that Purchasing a pre-order of CoH ar Best Buy was one way to get a CD key for the beta. Considering that most of the staff seemed to know very little about the game except for projected system specs and some of the selling points, plus the fact that BestBuy.com doesn't list CoH for sale, this seems like its bogus. Has anybody else been told something similar?

AFAIK it's just paying FilePlanet that gets you a key.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm not about to buy a fileplanet membership right now, but I figured since I plan on buying CoH eventually anyway if can't hurt to get in on the beta in the process. Oh well. Hopefully the system specs they quoted to me were wrong, too. Otherwise I'll be needing to go job hunting in order to afford a more worthy system.

The closed beta crew's been hard at work generating data for Relic to look at, which should result in a much smoother Open Beta.

Well, I asked because my inability to participate in the closed beta annoyed me much less than not living in Vancouver so that I could try out the single player. :D

In previous games, Relic has only released multiplayer betas to the public. Single player testing has been entirely closed, to my knowledge. I doubt it'll be different with CoH.

It's not a rumour. Dates just haven't been released yet (because they've not resolved all the things from the closed portion of the beta).

Do you know if there is a certain deadline relic has to meet for the closed beta? Or will it be done, when it's done?

Which beta test actually isn't specified now that I think of it. I believe it's the open beta test but who knows. I'll find out soon though considering I pre-ordered the game just a few days ago.

Yes, EB Here in Australia Is also Running the same Promation. I went to EB, asked the Clerk and he said he heard nothing about it, asked his manager and he knew nothing as well.

So they checked their systems and it said that beta stuff are to be giving out and told me they'll contact me when they have them in.

i was wondering if 15th August is the date of the REAL Open BETA... some guy said it pre ordered the game and was told that the open BETA would start in 15th August...
