What are Nlips
Non-Linear something Sizing or something like that. It's what makes smaller ships look bigger when zoomed out, so that they can actually be seen.
How do you turn them off?
gotcha... thanks.
NLIPS = Non-Linear Inverse Perspective Scaling
Basically, it scales the size of smaller ships like Interceptors and Corvettes by a lesser degree than it does larger ships like Frigates and Capital-class vessels so that the smaller craft will look disproportionally larger when zoomed out so as to make it easier to see and select them.
Turning it off equalizes the perspective scaling across the entire board, so tiny little fighters next to massive capital ships will actually LOOK LIKE tiny little fighters next to massive capital ships.
You can turn NLIPS off in the Options menu under Gameplay.

I like it better with NILPS off as well, makes for very nice screen shots.
Does it have an effect on performance?
I can't see what I'm targetting!!! :p
Afoxi: that was a problem with most of the cataclysm mods I tried. For some reason the fighters were not affected by the dynamic scaling and you couldnt see a thing in the midst of combat. Or anywhere else for that matter. Looked pretty cool when zoomed right in though.
Afoxi : - You have to use the tatical overlay when you have NLIPS off. It is the only way you see your and the enemies ships.

I think i'd rather play with Nlips on, thanks. :D:D:D
As far as i know it doesnt have any Negative effect on performance, some people claim to see their performance increase when Nlips are turned off.Quote:

(A developper explained that this meight happen due to earlier switching to low poly models, as you can't see the difference when they r so small)
mmmmmm bult-in truescale mod.
I rather have it on. I like to see my ships when I play. :) Even if the other way might be more "realistic".
oh my god - this is great
it makes the game look AWSOME
i'm not ever going back
and hell I always select things by selecting everything on the screen and clicking on a ship type in the bottom bar thingy anyway (and usually have things already hotkeyed)
It doesn't matter if you can't tell what the other ships are, it so makes up for it in terms of sheer scale and size of the big ships.
Playing with Nlips off gives a better sense of scale. Fighter battles are a little more spectacular around carriers as all you see are many black dots struggling to gain the advantage. It's pretty damned cool
:salute:
i love it with Nlips off. it rules. you get the scale of the game as it was intended, not the way it is set for ppl who cant see very well. also, just use groupings :D
Nlips was probabaly the stupidest addition to the homeworld series... When I first played the demo I had a feeling that something was not right, that something was fighters being too frigging big.
Nlips off for me please
Heh.. Thanks for putting in that option Relic.. I knew more people than just me liked playing with 'dots'.. But I will say that this version of nlips is far better implemented that HW's was and is enjoyable to watch as the ships don't stay huge when viewed from far away.. :D
I am thankful it was made an option :) niec when developers give you a choice instead of what they thought is best for you.
What Justin said is always the best approach.
Too bad Relic didn't follow it in more areas of HW2 :(
Like the more important hw1 interface switch option?Quote:

The interface I got used too, I usualy have it minimized though (backspace once) and the build/reserch/launch screen on the right is handy because you still see whats going on.
The only thing I miss is the unit count in the top left corner when having a group selected and bandbox targeting.
the build/reserch status on the top seems out of place but I do notice it more there then when it was 1/4 the way on the bottom left.
its a good interface :p just needs a few things added , and as shown with the timer addition maybe it can be modded back to homeworld/hwc way.
Definitely that's what I forgot, seeing what in the hell you have selected... why did they even bother removing that is beyond me.Quote:

Don't know which noobs were complaining about the hw1 interface back when it was released, boy am I mad.
or the n00bs complaining about RU's running out fast so you can only build one thing at a time :p
