Is this UK or USA or ?

:argh:They also have a full review of the game and rate it at 96%.

Does PC Gamer have a tendency to give such awesome ratings?
No, they do not. 96% from PCGamer is quite a good rating.
#7
And it should be well deserved.
Did they make it absolutely clear that this is an RTS?
Just since that's what the game's marketing has lacked in so far, IMO.

damm..i had a bet running...i was saying it gets 90% max...he was like ..nah dude way over that...seems like this case of german beer is gone...well it whould have been gone anyway..opcorn:
Actually, most of the awesome ratings i find are either given to FPS's or the Total War games. It's somewhat an honour to receive 96% from PC gamer UK at least in the RTS department..
On the other hand though, you have to admit, that despite the fine tuning COH needs, it is a pretty fine game though.... :bow2:![]()

Good ratings -> more players -> more people for online fights -> HORRAY
This is the USA issue I am referring to.
They make it clear that this is an RTS game as it is included as a part of the "RTS Revolution" theme they have for this issue.
Thats amazing. The highest rating theyve given is to Half Life 1/2 which Was a 98%. 3% off from being PC Gamers top game rating.:blink:
What concerns me is this.
Sure getting great reviews is one thing. And lord knows you cant trust the opinions of people who post on the Relic Forums, I mean the bias is undeniable.
Thing is, how much money are Relic going to make on this game. RTS genre is one of the big three as it were - FPS, RPG and RTS comprising the largest selection of games.
Now making the best RTS out there isnt anywhere near as profitable as making the best FPS out there. I mean Halo 2 made more money in its first day of release than most games make total.
So think of it like this. No matter what you think, Relic is in it for the money. Its a job. Plain and simple. I for one would like to see COH make a lot of cash, and the hook being its not only an RTS game, appealing to RTS fans, but a WW2 game, appealing to another large segment of the gaming populace.
If anyone could dig up some figures on sales for Dawn of War and past relic games I would be most happy. Because my main concern is Relic makes kickass games but doesnt profit enough and dashes my dream of a Homeworld 3 that I hope is secretly in the works somewhere =).
Seriously, reviews mean nothing if your game sells 3 copies. I may be overeacting, but still, I ould prefer COH to sell by the bucketload then get good reviews. I wanna see people buying COH instead of Madden, that kind of popularity would ensure Relics future. The RTS genre surely cant get that popular can it?
#14
Well, going by prior benchmarks, a "successful" game by Relic would be one that garners about 500,000 copies in sales
I'd be willing to bet that they could probably break that little barrier.
I hate my area... dam US Snail Mail.
Yes, 90%+ games are almost perfect.
If PCGamers is giving it such a high rateing, I'm curious on how IGN will rate it, as they seem to have almost a manic obession with this game...10 anyone? The last 10 I've seen em give was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Sweet. Was waiting for this info.
I know what's supposed to be on the demo, but if anyone could confirm it, that'd be great.
As an aside, I love how they can rate an unfinished game at 96%. Imagine what it'll get when it's done!

*dances around*
StarCraft = 92%
WC2 = 96%
WC3 = 94%
AOE2 = 94%
CoH = 96%
No, I'm not biased![]()
Demo has the tutorial and the Omaha Beach mission and the first part of the Carentan mission.
Omaha Beach mission includes the complete cinematic.
Blurb for rating is: "Not just the greatest WWII RTS ever, but one of the greatest RTS games ever, period." - Editor's Choice.

Well...the point that relic is in for the money is right.
witch company isent ? Look. They put so much detail in . Things that RTS gamers allways ask about. Shells that bounce off a sloped armour. A incredible level of detail.
I have to stop here because i have those talks all the last 3-4 days since we got that beta. They just did it right. I mean 2 years of development pay off. Basicly they took all the goodes from WH40k into it and seem to have an open ear to the RTS community. On the other hand they "destroy" -literaly- all the other titels in that sector comming out this year. Why ? You all know why...
They did it and if a "beta" gets me glued to my screen wheater or not i was complaining about that i dident see "anything new" the last few years and the "WW2 RTS genre is dead" ...well...damm...:bow:

PCGamer tends to rate things beforehand, and will often miss out on consequential flaws and the like within a game (HL2 and the Steam issues, malicious copy-protection, etc.). And their reviews for most games that they have personally ultra-hyped tend to be disproportionately high.
befor i played it i was like..well nice screens..i found those videos rather disappointing in ways. But now i played it i have to agree to a over 90% rating. I look back on 13 years of RTS and got exited. Thats enough for me....![]()

Well, there's that roughly 5-10 million USD(perhaps more, AAA titles can cost up to 20 million these days, accounting for inflationWell...the point that relic is in for the money is right.

But it's well worth it however, because you spend money to earn money, and most games do *not* earn back their dev costs...infact, only a fraction of the games on the market ever do.
Correct. I know a little from my work for a german publisher and i know the cost and manpower that stand behind such projects. I guess Relic was able to pull it off due to the WH40k thing. ( witch my girl playes and i was just looking , love my imperial armour on tables ):ds:
Tutorial is same as in multi-player demo - graphics were crisper and troops were more
lethal.
First time I tried the Omaha beach mission, troops would not use their special abilities -
could not complete mission objectives - game finally locked up and had to reset my machine.
Second time I played the mission, troops operated flawlessly - used all special abilities to maximum destructive effect.
I even won a medal.
How does PC gamer have a final rating of 96% when the final build of CoH isn't out yet? Are they basing this score on the demo alone?
P.S Warcraft III sucks!
More than likely Relic or THQ gave them a copy of the game for free. Most developers do that. Various reasons include they hope if they give away free shit they get a higher rating and to get in a review at a strategic time.
When will the demo be able to be downloaded by us non-suscribers to Pc Gamer?

Nope, they came up to our offices and locked themselves in for 2 long days while they played through the entire single-player campaign.How does PC gamer have a final rating of 96% when the final build of CoH isn't out yet? Are they basing this score on the demo alone?
And they spent their nights playing MP. They were here until the wee hours of the morning and we had to literally kick them out the door.![]()

Sorry, but check your numbers. Strategy is the top selling genre as a whole on PC and has 4 of the top 5 selling franchises of all time on PC.Originally Posted by MasterToad

Who was the writer of the review? The last few editions of the PC Gamer podcast, they've mentioned that they've been actively participating in the beta and enjoying it.

Grats guys, and while this game may be more action oriented than I anticipated its still one of the most amazing games I played, and thats been over 20 yrs..
I think this will set the bar for future developers and will always look forward to seeing what Relic brings to the table because with DoW and soon to be released CoH, they are a force to be reckoned with.
I am just kinda ticked I cancelled my subscription last month so now will have to wait for the store release to try out the single player demo..![]()

Thanks for clearing that up Tranj. I wasn't having a go I was just curious as to the sales.
So, now you have kicked ass with COH can you tell us any info on Homeworld 3?
Puuuurty purrrlease?
Funny how hype generates large %s...Hey, when can we expect the demo to be released to the public?

you sure on this when i went down to the stuido on halo3 i found out some interesting things FPS are the formost and 100% most profitably, i cant remember the exact numbers on halo2 but i tel you this 1.2 million isnt that high compared ot hal0 2:PSorry, but check your numbers. Strategy is the top selling genre as a whole on PC and has 4 of the top 5 selling franchises of all time on PC.
by the way halo 3 has allready got an estimated sale figue witch makes 1.5 look like pennies lol.
hype sells so more hype more people get game, so looks like COH will be A BIG sucess.by the way think how many people are in the world and then compare that to the sells hehe

Halo was a console shooter primarily and the PC version didn't do nearly as well. As for profits, it's almost impossible to tell as publishers don't generally release the direct profitability information on a per title basis.Originally Posted by shadowcreaper
Soon. The demo on the cover of Gamer has the old high system specs and lacks a lot of the optimizations we have in now. We'll be releasign a demo online from the codebase of the final game with all of the optimizations. I don't have an exact date, but it won't be too far away.Originally Posted by LoneWolf666

I gotta say, I never really followed this game mega closely during its development, I am a Dawn Of War fan first and foremost :bandit:, however when the public open beta was announced i thought "heck with it, everyone is raving about it, al see what the fuss is about" so i downloaded it and installed it and i can tell you i only had to play the first tutorial mission and i was totally blown away by the game. The graphics were just the best ive seen to date in an RTS game and the gameplay is just awesome. I didnt waste any time in adding it to my list of pre ordered games96% from what I have played is thoroughly well deserved, now about making Dawn of War 2 in the COH engine...

is pc gamer avalible in UK?? if not how wil i get my hands on the demo or is it US only?

I must say COH deserved every percentage point and maybe a few more.
(Previously, and still occasionally zbobet2012)
I'm not sure what edition it is in, but PCGamer has both UK and US publications. The US one is also distributed in Canada and Mexico and I imagine the UK one might be distributed elsewhere in Europe.
The Uk one is available at least in Scandinavia, and probably other EU countries as well (unless they have local versions of it). Judging from the beta, I think it deserves that score.
