Their crazy, ignore 'em.
Some of these, especially the simpler ones, would do well as Manual covers, but would be look-overs as boxes in some cases. I need to do some research, and go to a PC game section. See what colors would stick out, I'd suggest that while you guys are makeing more.

I did some research of exactly that sort, and found that the simple white ones really seemed to stand out. The complicated ones just seemed to blend in to the background.

I've made one too.
And about Fox's boxes (Hiigarian Edition - his best) - i really enjoy it. But IMO, this pic is not for HW2. I mean HW has another mood, and ambience than this pic. I guess, i'll be good at the such game boxes as EVE or Haegemonia and so on... But it's only my opinion.

Right. Once again Vijil hits gold. They should simply put a coloured version of one of the cool as cinematic shots on the box.
The desert colours remind HW1 fans of Kharak, and pick out the attention nicely with the yellows (which was possibly the reason Sierra has so far been releasing yellow posters and the yellow boxart concept? who knows)

Vijil's last one is the winner for me so far... simple yet very eye catching
The other works are really cool too, but this is the one I like most.
I know this isn't anything fancy, just bare with me here.

Hey Greg, it is good work yet most of the ideas here are based on the erradication of the original Sierra concept. Possibly update where the face is when more info comes in(most of these might not work until after Alpha).
They seem to already hae what they wanted, and they likely went through expense to get it, I would be saddened if any of this was to waste, but it is an excellent turnout of art. Perhaps if the box has already been determined, you can work on the manual cover, the Strategy guide cover(different company), or fan-site packs.
Well here is a version I made today instead of doing real work. Man i'm dumb. I hope you like it.
I cant be bothered making another one now, the few by vigil jsut knock be dead, i like hte one where its white and has a band at the bottom with 2 fighters, homeworld 2 on top of it to the left and epic rts underneath it at the right. Great stuff, nice work people.

Not too wild about Chromeworld, but I loved your second one way back on page one of this thread. The one with just the logo and a vertical bar. So elegant and eye-catching.

Fox, even cutting and pasting a couple of explosions out of that shot might be pretty cool. One of the things I've noticed is missing from all the ones posted to date (I think) is weapons fire or impacts.

Well, what i was trying to do is have the Vaygr box the same as the Hiigaran one, jsut wiht different images, so like htat strip of a screenshot neds to stay the same size wise. I like how it is since its go explosions reigning fire at the top of it and a flight of fighters, and the way the Vaygr cap ship is done, makes it look part of the screenshot and part of the art behind it. Personally, i dont think it looks "busy". But i suppose i could figure out a way to de-clutterify it.
Which text position do you like, underneat Homeworld 2 or above screenie ? and what font ?

i finally read this thread, and DAMN you guys have talent!
although i (honestly) liked everyone's work very much, i really have to say that i like vijil's work the most. vijil's is the most simple and attractive, and different from everyone elses (which consists mostly of shots of fleets and the MS.)
the winner in my eyes is vijil's all white with a single bar at the bottom, with a few fighters inside, and the Homeworld2 logo to the above left. love that, hope it's relics choice!
runner up -- fox, for polishing the same idea over and over
2nd runner up (er?) -- pimp, just cuz it looks cool

k i updated the "epic" part of my box art. There are three versions of it. Which one do you guys think is better?

I'd say the second one, but make the shadow smaller as well.
Also, why is everyone using the hw2 logo and text designed for white backgrounds on their dark boxes? Try using the black versions and you'll like it a lot better.

ok so i took vijil's advice, made the shadow smaller and changed the title. Now the problem is which one to go with.
Oh, and the reason why i used the light version of the title before was because the template uber had, had that one. so i kinda forgot about the title, i didn't even notice the diffrence of the two until you pointed it out.
