holysweetmotherofholycrap! I sure hope that's for an intro- that ship alone would kill most computers! Nice, Kadaeux!

    Yeah I was floor-palmed too.....

The Statues alone must be the height of a 20 storey building :O

    a) I don't quite get how this pertains to the mod, beyond it being a several-million poly model (at a guess) of a Battlefleet Gothic ship.

    b) I don't get how such an intro pertains to the mod, given that the mod has had a lot of exposure to the public already, and a pre-rendered CGI "intro" (which is what I would guess that model would be used for) isn't going to do a lot to show off the mod beyond what people already know, and will only serve to foster questions about the mod that the mod team doesn't want (like "omg will that be ingame").

However, I am not the mod lead, and I have no idea what Kad's working on at the moment, so I'm hanging in suspense along with the rest of you.

    Omg, thats epic...

@Gorb: Cinematic intro for the game is whats planned. Instead of seeing Blood Ravens having a slug-match with the Orks you get....

    It.

Ok, two things for this thread.

1: If anyone has some images that might make good Ork buildings (Asteroid bases etc) please share them now.

2: Here are some Concept Images of a model done for the Space Marines as a Fortress Monastery (It is by no means Final)

Wait as in the Phalanx? Because I'm pretty sure that besides The Rock, the Phalanx is the only mobile Fortress Monastary, and I know its the only one thats a ship.

Wrong. Many more chapters have space faring fortress monasteries, e.g. the Lamenters or the Black Templars just to mention a couple of them.

Ork space bases are just rocks with lots of protruding Ork-like buildings coming from them. BFG team already has an Ork Space Hulk.

@Kadaeux have you got any textured ships yet, all your showing are gray renders. it would be really nice to see them painted

Dark Angels just have some of the good stuff. Although Ork Space Hulks look soo much fun and interesting.

  17. #1017
I thought the Templars just had a whole bunch of Fortress Monastary on different planets that they've conqured Lleman. As for the Lamenters, I did not know that, I'm not up to date on the non-mainstream chapters backstories.

The Templars do build fortress monasteries on the planets they use as re-supply points. They also build them on the planets they use for recruitment.

Isn't the Blood Ravens' Fortress Monastery, the Litany of Fury, a ship? It's in the DoW novels, if I remember correctly.

    Liking this, I am

Given that it`s not the usual map style, how`s the performance compared to regular maps?

  24. #1024
Looks Great! and to put an end to all the Templar thing. The build strongholds not Monasteries on planets. they have Fortress Monastery ships.

There we were, ready to charge the loyalist scum, and then suddenly we were under fire from our west flank. Batshit mental. We turn to return fire, and somehow they sneaked a bunker in, right next to us! We didn't have any meltas so we got the hell out of there. CREEEEED!

Unseen: The custom maps for BFG load faster, are larger, and more open. However, the depth and darkness of them means that it's easier to get ambushed, so players will have to keep an eye out on their ships. Races such as the Eldar can take advantage of this, picking off single lone ships.

I am pretty intruiged Heretic. It wasn`t one of those mods I was overly bothered with before, but the idea is strangely compelling now.

How`s the actual fps hit from all the large custom models? I see you have kept them fairly simple/optimised, but since I`ve never (knowingly) ran any mods yet with new models, I have no idea how the engine handles it.

Maybe there is no hit at all, which may be the case, but I`ve had 3 machines die here in the last month (2x gfx card, 1x psu), and due to lack of funds, I`ll be gaming on a 128M 5200 for a fair few months to come

You start thinking of silly things like this when you`re stuck on ancient hardware

Performance wise, it's not that taxing. Considering the highest poly model of mine is considerably smaller than that of Relic's Baneblade, there shouldn't be many issues. However, I cannot give you an honest answer until things such as FX, textures and animations are in the mod, so as for now, if Dark Crusade can run on your computer, Battlefleet Gothic can too.

...Plus you'll be able to test this soon.

I`m just suddenly thrust into the stone age again as of late. I never thought I`d be considering how well DoW runs on hardware, but after having to learn to model to various LoD levels recently, as well as the sudden death of my main machines, these horrible thoughts just pop into yer head...

I always did wonder exactly how the engine would handle something like this mod. It`s not exactly the most current game engine, so you never know until you`ve tried it.

Public announcements of "soon" are always a good sign when it pertains to mod work.

There are a few issues in regards to the engine, however some of them, our majestic and wonderful Lord Coder Super Gorb has ironed them out. There are some features we wished to do, but couldn't because of limitations, but thankfully these were few, and even then we're still working on going around these problems. The DoW engine may be outdated, but it certainly is flexible.

The most obvious example is the movement of the ships however, with pathfinding issues. However, this is being worked on, and we're making progress with that.

Someone will always create ways around the problems.... `tis why we have modders in the first place

Definitely looking good so far guys. Should be very interesting to try when you get a release out.

Sadly no. We're currently in the process of unwrapping, but at the moment, getting them ready for a public alpha release is the most important thing.

I think I should apologise for the lack of updates. Myself, Malekith and Gorb are swamped with college/university work.
Things should pick up soon, however.

Apart from the singleplayer metamap parts of the game, you can do quite some heavy editing of the menu system without doing a single change to the .dll's or .exe's. I honestly can't see what they are doing that requires a modified dll/exe, so I'd like to ask you what you believe it is that requires this?

That said, Relic has so far encouraged modding by releasing the mod tools plus a fair share of documents, in addition to allowing reverse-engineering to some degree (I'm fairly sure they'd know about Brother Santos' tools by now, Corsix actually made a patch to fix a bug with the ingame mod manager in DC 1.0, yet none of them have been threatened as far as we know).

Actually, let me just reference to this (for the record, Tranj works for THQ... whilst he isn't in their legal department, he does have a heads up):
    http://forums.revora.net/index.php?showtopic=35110

The only thing that has been warned against is reverse-engineering the .gfx files (singleplayer metamap). This seems to stem from the fact that this is based on technology they have licensed from Scaleform Corporation, which in turn is far less forgiving towards your general modder reverse-engineering their tech.

    @ Grizzly Bear-

It seems that BFG mods for many games are either dead or dying. Wasn't there like 2 or 3 of them for the Homeworld series? I think there was even one for that Star Wars RTS (the one where you do battle on the planet and in space- no not the Battlefronts). Just can't think of the name of it...
