i doubt there will be any improvements
unless some else picks up the mod and continues on with it

Perhaps just the tiniest bit of googleing will help...

It's not even close to being ancient...ancient on the interblogs is like 2-3 years, this is not even close.
Well, i'm fairly sertain this constitues ancient on here, considering this thread has been going almost a year now, i think.
But yeah, Hiroshi's right, let this mod die in peace, don't keep poking it guys.
Can i suggest a sticky or Lock? al the answers to questions are here, let people find out for themselves how to fire or whatever, the info's here.
'boose out.

I'm not even sure the information here is sufficient to get the mod working for the average user. It would seem those who have a talent for programming languages lose the ability to convey adequately in verbal language! The "simple" instructions provided in the readme found in the 14 files on Homeworld Access have not helped me to get it working. Likewise, I have a similar problem with the other file download. I would add this to my collection for Jst-Online is somebody could assist.
Rather than simply locking this thread, I would suggest congealing all the information into the first post of the thread; that is the download links and the instructions. Hunting through an entire thread is not an efficient way for a mod to get distributed!
If it gets locked I'll just make a new thread for it.
I didn't get a readme with the 14 files.
"I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THOSE EXTRA 1,800 USERS WENT." - Moe
"To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill." - Sun Tzu
If it gets locked, that means that the discussion is over. It doesn't mean that the discussion should be started in a separate thread.
Also, scottismo pimped the forums once more.

I will ask again just in case anyone sees this: if you were able to get this mod to work, please PM me or post in this thread the details on how you achieved this. I haven't had much luck myself!
Scott! Hi and hello, here you go: ... as a fast help, may I offer my reply in this thread on page 4, also accessible via View Single Post?
HW ACCESS | Mods and resources for HW, HW-Cataclysm and HW2
25.000+ downloads done! | 1000s of shots and WIP! | You want more?

Ok, here is how I have it set up so far. It's not working like this at the moment. Any ideas?

Can you start the thing (after quitting there should be some new files in your c:\HW_freedrive...)?
Make the following test:
1) Start via the link mentioned, have a look on mine if you want:
C:\HWfree\Homeworld.exe /noSound /noSpeech /pilotView /prepath c:\Programme\Homeworld\
2) Chose a skirmish, i.e. load, say, Baal (2-4)
3) Left-mouse-click select some scout (not the whole group, just one), press f (ocus) and zoom in to have her face to face
4) Observe (probably, a keyboard light) that your numpad is on. Press x on the numpad (I mean "multiply"), then play with your numpad keys 5 and 2 ...

I can't get to the main menu screen even. It crashes and produces a DUMP file shortly after clicking on the shortcut
Does it look like I have all the files I need?
#121
you probably have the link wrong scott get me in msn and I will send the link I used
#122
After failing for a bit with the command line things, I got it to work by literally duplicating my Homeworld directory and replacing the old .exe with the new one (and the same for other files, I seem to remember there were some), and creating a shortcut with simply pilotview disableavi and debugtofile (last two are optional but I like to keep them around for trying new things). Not the most space efficient way of doing things, but it seems to get the job done.
#123
Ok I've experimented with both the debug version available on the forums of HWAccess from page 3 and the release version hosted on the downloads page at HWAccess. I have managed to get both versions working after extensive troubleshooting!
First off, I am running in XP and setting the compatibility mode of the homeworld shortcut to Windows NT is the first step.
Second, I found with both the debug version and the release version that the program would just hang at startup until I deleted the Feman directory. Yes, that's right...kind of weird seeing as the feman folder comes with the mod but in both instances, I had to do this. Gameplay is not affected; you still get the box in the center of the screen in pilot view etc.
I plan to host both on Jst-Online. I'm going to include the Feman folder but will suggest deleting it if the user experiences trouble.
#124
FE was modified in the newer HW. It generates an assert in case of an unexpected version (which in this case would be the older version). Apparently relic forgot something.I'm going to include the Feman folder but will suggest deleting it if the user experiences trouble.
#125
What do you mean by the newer HW? As in the 1.05 patch? What you're saying is it is crashing because the files in feman are of a different version to in the .big file? Or have i got this totally wrong?
#126
I believe them to be different version. Ever tried running stock HW with an empty "update.big"? Or the unpatched version with the new FE files? (i.e. stock unpatched HW with the new FE files). I think is a difference, even if it's only version only (I'm saying version in the FE files, everything else same). Though I can't think of any difference. (ahem: Homeworld v1.06C; where you'd see 5 w\ latest patch)What do you mean by the newer HW? As in the 1.05 patch? What you're saying is it is crashing because the files in feman are of a different version to in the .big file? Or have i got this totally wrong?
Wasn't 1.06 something to do with the raider retreat missions?
Rejected by zombies
#128
Thats v1.06 OEM and this is v1.06 RETAIL. (What does the OEM has to do with retail version, over here?)Wasn't 1.06 something to do with the raider retreat missions?
As I expected, the stock (un-updated) FEMAN files have version 211 whereas the patched ones have 212. scottismo, I guess you're using the older version (and the source refers to the newer ones) or vice versa.
Oh, and yes, the game does generate an assert:
"Debug fatal formatted". That '%x' is a hexadecimal formatted string (the version) and '%s' is a string (path of file, that is).Code:if (header->version != FIB_Version) { dbgFatalf(DBG_Loc, "feScreensLoad: Invalid version 0x%x in file '%s'. Expected 0x%x", header->version, fileName, FIB_Version); }
The change is probably to contain the co-ordinates and size of the screen when it was originally loaded.
#129
The game is patched to 1.05 and I'm using the FEMAN folder that came with the authors zip file so I can't see a problem unless the author himself has messed up?
As for 1.06, I am aware of the fact that was included in Raider Retreat but I've no idea about a retail version that you mention.
#130
ya I didn't even know about an o6 patch and why isn't it on sierra's site? Also would you mind putting it up for download somewhere?
Let's see if I can shed some light here because there's plenty of things to be confused by!
1.05 was the last official patch and identifies itself on the main menu as "Version Homeworld V1C.06.1".
Homeworld OEM (more commonly known as "Raider Retreat") consists of the first four missions of Homeworld plus a bonus mission. It displays as "Version OEM V1.051". However, the files contained within its Update.big are actually based on pre-1.05-patch formats. This file format incompatibility is one of the reasons why Homeworld OEM is installed as a separate game rather than just inserting the bonus mission into the standard Homeworld mission sequence.
The Homeworld source code only supports the file formats that were in use at the time of the 1.05 patch.
The Homeworld Soundtrack CD-ROM included an installer for the Homeworld 1.05 patch; Homeworld OEM (Raider Retreat) did not.
(The Turanic Raiders Homeworld MOD is completely unrelated to this discussion, but I mention it because its title sounds related and it had a final version number of 1.06, so could catch people out later on...)

Riess, please forgive me, for I know not what I do.
ZOMG! scottissmo pimped this thread 3 times on this page alone! Surely the time of prophecy is at hand! The End Time has begun...

Using the compiled source code; it was never released. Never mind about that, because the compiled source won't have BINK (videos) working.ya I didn't even know about an o6 patch and why isn't it on sierra's site? Also would you mind putting it up for download somewhere?
Probably that's what happened. The game is patched to 1.05 and I'm using the FEMAN folder that came with the authors zip file so I can't see a problem unless the author himself has messed up?
ok. i have absolutely no idea what you guys are saying. all i got out of this is that some genius has figured out how to give you control of the hw ships. TELL ME HOW AND WHAT I HAVE TO DO TO MAKE THIS WORK! its totally awsome. i only read the first few pages so if ther is something on here that i can follow a link to to download, let me know as soon as possible. by the way, if backing up hw is required in the process, i already have that done. i have to cause with all my earlier modding experiments im had to completely replace all the hw file.... multiple times. anyway, if this thing is real, i want it.
not to sound rude er anything.

i know. i thougt there might be a shot though...![]()
The file to download: Link (Post #38)
Installation help: Posts #53-60
Video: Link (Post #42)
Flight instructions: Post #62
To fire all available guns: Press 'T' (Post #51 )
I don't think I'm missing anything else, but I could be wrong. I also can't verify that it all works as Homeworld won't work for me on my computer right now.

Um... hi
So, I know it's been two years from last reply in the thread, but I just need to ask. It's about that new version of mod lacking fire option.
I think I've figured out which line is responsible for firing upon pressing T. Probably smallfishlxy have deleted or accidentally deactivated that line, or... I dunno, had a version of code without it?
1 - Is there any contact with smallfishlxy? Maybe he could provide the source code for newer version of the mod so fire option may be implemented?
2 - Is there any possible way to implement that few lines of code without altering the exe? Like through use of scripts?
Well, I think the reason why smallfishlxy didn't know that T fires the guns of selected ship is that this feature already exists in the source code. So he even didn't have to touch it, it was always there. Aperrantely he disabled it though.
@EDIT: OK now, the reason why you can't fire in newer version of the mod is because you can fire with T only in beta of the homeworld code. smallfishlxy probably based first version of the mode on beta code, while the newer version was just implemented into "normal" game code.

hello.
I just found this interesting and tryed to download and it seems download link is down cause domain name is out of use.
I'm going to bump this again.
All the links to this mod are dead by now, unfortunately.
If anyone has it lying around on their HD, could you kindly upload it somewhere, so we can download it again?
Preferably the debug version, in which one can fire the ship's weapons, but really, any version would make me happy.
Cheers!
Old, but I'm pretty sure this is it. I got it to work ages ago but can't figure it out now. I'll read through this entire thread at sometime to recall how to get it to work.
