another freakin tedious mission.
i'm glad to have artillery support though.
any nice suggestions abt where to deploy the howitzers?
No need for howitzers...all I did was capture the 3 Nebelwerfer's from the Jerries and used them to my hearts content!
One trick that was handy is that as soon as you capture/destroy the nebel batteries, reinforcement (1 x Sherman, 1 x Croc, 1 x Jeep, 2 x Ranger ) will arrive. So I made sure my pop was maxed out before I took out the nebels. I ended up with a pop of 100+!! (I had like 6 Shermans!)
Anyway to stop the Nebels from using the rocket barrages on you without capturing/destroying them? Its kind of a PITA when I have the Rain of Destruction on me every few minutes.
u might as well put an Engi in front of a Tiger and expect it not to fire.
Guess I will have to live with rocket barrages on me till I got my forces up and ready to counter the reinforcements after dealing with the nebers.![]()
actually you dont have to. i bum rushed it with infantry and chucked nades.
Remember what the packaging said: Soldiers fight for you, Heroes die for you.
=P i made alota men into heroes on this mission
Pierce81 - its not that hard - just move your men OUT of the HQ sector (leave the jeep and an engy squad there). Have your guys capture the 2 sectors to the right of HQ. The Nebels usually only bombard your HQ sector (the front of it) so your guys will be fine as long as they don't bunch up near the HQ. Just build a Sherman ASAP and assault the Nebel site.
Ah I see. Thanks.
I beat this mission on Normal , I took the one point to the Right of my base and then took all the points to the left and around the outside all the way to hill 192... Beat the mission in 57:81 minutes, and got the medal, I did not get beat the secondary objective though..... Rangers seemed to work really well on this map, that is the only special ability I used.
I ignored the neblewerfers and just focused on the hill, you will know when the nebels fire anyway due to their sound and the red smoke, so just move ur guys out of the way...
I ran into a bug in this mission - When frantically micro'ing a single Ranger squad around to get the Medal requirement, repeatedly losing dudes and reinforcing, I noticed that they actually STOPPED firing their Bazookas at one point. Full squad, 2 dudes with the bazookas, and they'd do everything. Kneel down, aim, and fire. There was even the sparks and smoke from firing. However, no projectile ever came out, nothing ever hit the Panzer or whatever target I was aiming at, and it never took any damage.
This only happened to the one squad in question, as others had no problem in firing away with Bazookas, but this was kinda worrying, and thought you might want to know about it.
It seemed to me, while playing this today, that planting a Howitzer and nuking the crap out of the church/town hall in the axis command center ends the map prematurely, as I hadn't captured all the points when the building fell and I still ended the map.
One sniper can take out all 3 Nebels... FYI... take them for your self and on you go.
yep 1 sniper cleared the whole 3 nebel, 2 mg and 2 volks in their nebel site. then its rifles to claim my spoils of war
For the medal, you have to get a ranger squad promoted to sargent. Take all the panzerschreks (sp?) and kill all the panzers that come near your base with them. This was one my favorite missions, except i hated getting the mdeal because the rangers are so hopeless.
Exploit: To finish this map quickly, you don't actually need to capture all of the points outlined in the objectives. The mission is successfull if you breach the center of the town and take out the Axis base within it. I simply breached the right hand side entrance with 1 sherman, 2 crocodilles, 2 rangers, and off map artillery support.
This is not a bug, it's a feature...I ended this mission in the same way, trying to simplify my life.
On Normal: push all your forces to the nebelwerfers, kill them with grenades. losses - so, hm...but the nebelwerfers are down. then capture point by point, watching for reinforcements from the edges of map (you have to secure your base with machineguns and have tanks near base to quick support in case of tanks attack). I stopped capturing points on the line where nebelwerfers are, then used them to clear larger part of enemy's base. then I pushed my 4 tanks into the base and used airstrike
killed all of enemy soldiers and the game ends!
yeah i rushed the base with a croc, a sherman and about 5-6 riflemen companies and won
build 4 mortars and place them halfway to the german neblewerfers the mortars took out everything in range cept for tanks thats were ur rangers come in with the panzershrekz
1 tank 1 eng 1 sniper 1 normal troop 2 mortars (split from the 4 that mortared the neblewerfers)going up on each side is wicked
the problem i had with rushing their base is that panzerschrecked grenadiers materialize out of thin air next to their hq (like 4-5 squads) and totally obliterated my 2 elite shermans caught by surprise and were nailed in the ass
Medal - Promotion of Rangers?
How long does it take, and what do they have to do or accomplish in order to be promoted?
To promote Rangers you have to promote them like any other Allied unit by using them to kill. The more the kill the higher their rank. The time it takes depends on how well you micro them and by keeping them alive.
i didnt manage it because they suck
they all died over and over again
Getting the Rangers promoted takes some work and patience. As you go up the promotion line ( it takes three promotions), you ranger team slowly dies off. You can go back to base to re-heal, and you can one extra guy, but a small ranger team can't survive the time it takes and the number of encounters to get to the three promotions.
The rangers do nicesly against the tanks IF, the tanks are distracted by something of higher value like a Sherman. But you don't want the Shermans to finish off the tanks, you want that opportunity saved for your ranger team. Also you have to have some other infanty in the area to help take some of the heat off your Rangers.
If you didn't get the medal in the game, go back and play again, from start or a saved position. Improve your skills and patience and you'll get the medal.
The problems with the Tanks is they seems to have eyes in back of their heads. You can have your rangers come up "behind" a tank and the turret will turn from front to rear. Have rangers work on enemy positions in side buildings, but watch out for buildings with MG's. Have rangers go after light armor. Use Artillery to thin out tanks when too many show up on the scene.
Also have several ranger teams going to increase your odds of getting at least one to the three promotion mark.
i got the medal by accident the first time i played this mission without knowing what the medal objectives were. i had sent my croc and some rifles to cap a few points to the east and they came under fire by stugs. so i fired out my rangers to help them out and with the croc as target for the stugs my rangers got all the tank kills and got to elite after killing a few stugs. there was no chance the croc was gonna steal the kill
I promoted the rangers, and when that was done I took my one croc and ran it in a suicide mission to their hq. 2 Arty barrages and flaming did the trick, easy way to win. (You can win by destroying the HQ as well as capping the 7 points)
It was sad, cause my croc had half hp.
I mainly used a Nebelwerfer to take out their AT guns then slowly worked my way around both sides. Fiarly simply once I had that support, except their annoying habit of sneaking through my lines to try to capture points.

LOL, rangers don't suck at all, you just need to know how to use them. Uprgade them with Tompsons and they are very useful. I find that as with most units if you use them in groups of two or three they can be deadly. I used two squads of rangers + a rilfe squad that had picked up two shrecks to attack the P IVs and they kicked ass. This builds veterancy in no time. Add to this fire up and grenades and they were very good at clearing buildings as well. It was only towards the ned of the mission where they started to struggle a bit.
I played this one on hard at the weekend and although it took a decent ammount of time It wasn't too difficult. I advanced up both sides simultaneously with a cloaked sniper moving in front of my other units. I didn't build any Howies at all, I just used off screen arty to pound the Axis then went in with shermans, rangers and rilfes to mop up the survivors. I hardly bothered with the captured nevbles since IMO they're not that good anyway.
This mission is all about recon (using a sniper) to scope out where the Mgs and ATs are, Arty to soften up resistance and then always making sure you have a numerical advantage before attacking. That way you build up veterancy which in turn makes you units more effective. Also I retreated units when they were donw to tow men so i didn't lose veterancy and I also built a triage centre to bring them back to full health before sending them back in. Using this method I simply kept rotating units so that I always had a strong attacking force.
Oh and a sniper hidden in their base that can call in artillery attacks to knock out ATs and buildings is an easy way to keep resistance down to a minimum.
Played on Hard.
This is my second time through. I took out the three Nebelwerfers pretty quick. I finished with the Ranger medal. I won the same way I did the first time on Normal; by taking out the Town Hall.
How on earth do you cap the last two points? I had the map well in hand with 5 out of the 7. Every time I got a infantry unit on one of the last two, I got rocketed before I could finish the cap. The rockets were coming from off the map as far as I could tell. That's a cheesy way to stop a cap, dang it.![]()
I sent two recon planes at the HQ. they were both shot down and crashed into the HQ. Two shot down planes was enough to do the job.![]()
@eugekava # 30 : you are talking about mission 8. You don't get Recon Planes in mission 10.
@ =JPS=SgtRock #29 : You are experiencing Registered Artillery. It's a nasty Axis ability much like Allies Off-Map Artillery, but much faster. Basically, between seeing the red smoke and the shells fall down, you get 2 seconds of warning. I kept getting hit by it while attempting to take the high munitions point close to the HQ, on the right side of the map, just before you get to the Paks and housed sniper.
I eventually bypassed the contested point, took points around it, then finally took it after surrounding it with my own territory. In your case, taking the last two points might be tricky. I would suggest the following strat : Get 2 groups of rifles and 2 groups of engineers close to the point, but not so close that they will get caught in the artillery storm. Send one of the groups in to take the point. Once you see the red smoke, or after a couple of seconds, retreat the first group. Wait for the storm to calm down, then take with the second group, etc. Keep going until that point is neutral, at least. The Registered Artillery should stop before then. It's nice to have a halftrack nearby, for reinforcement.
I don't know what the cooldown time is, but I think I kept losing because I didn't have enough folks ready to take the point when my first group got wiped by the shells.
Other than that, you can bombard the HQ like everyone else likes to do around here.
Oh, I found something odd about the Stormtrooper spawn when playing this. If you kill all but the last SS man that spawns from near the HQ when you approach it, no other units will spawn. You will be free to kill at will. Just don't kill that last soldier, or you'll get a whole new crop of Stormies with shrecks that will ruin your day.
i find it fairly easy to upgrade the rangers. What I did was use them to attack an area to the northwest with a few buildings and units. I brought along two of them upgraded with SMGs. I took out that small force and i had veterancy (can't remember if it was 1 or two). Brought them back to base, healed and reinforced them. Every now and then an enemy tank came and I used the rangers to destroy them. I went up to triple veterency pretty fast. After I got to triple vet, i used them a long with a couple of infantry units to capture the points (with a bit of armor to help).
For destorying the nebels, I sent up two or three rifle squads to do a head on assault on them. If the squad took too much damage, i would retreat it. When i finished off the nebels, I immediately retreated the squads.
I am having a lot of trouble with this mission. I got the nebels and got the rangers upgraded, and took a couple of the required points, but now, no matter which point I try to take after getting about 6 or 7 territory zones under control, I get hammered with their off-map rocket barrages. I've tried the strategy of putting 4 or 5 units nearby and starting to take the point, then ordering an instant retreat as soon as I see the guide smoke, but the cooldown time seems to be near zero. No sooner does the barrage end and I start to re-take the point with unit #2, then the barrage starts again. I've tried this with as many as 5 straight units and end up with all of them retreated and the point still in enemy hands. This happens with points both on the left and right side of the map, as well as a couple near my base. I am left sort of stymied here... I beat this mission months ago and it was the last one I did, so I re-played the campaign, and I do not remember these off-map rocket barrages stopping me cold like this. Is there something I can do to stop them? Or am I going to have to resort to the cheesy "shell the middle" exploit to win the map, instead of doing it correctly?
Any advice?
Thanks,
C
Okay but of advice on this.
I've crushed the Nebels with an Infantry rush and got my Veted Rangers!
But rather than capture the points i'm rushing the base, but it's not giving me a victory. It simply keeps spawning shed loads of panzerschrecked mentalists over an over again. Even though i've wiped out all the buildings, well i cleared the big central building but didn't completely flatten it.
What am i missing?
You need to flatten the main building. Just get your vetted rangers for the medal get the nebels or build a howitzer and flatten the main building. You don't even need to capture all the territories.
Normal level.
Use infantry to clear nebels.
Then move all forces (except one tank and one engineer to protect the base) forward on left side.
Just before the second circled munitions point, there is only one road for enemy to come down. Use tank trap to block this road. Also use tank trap to form a trap for the left side road, because off-map enemy tanks will come this way. Set one AT face northwestern, make sure it can see/attack in-coming off-map enemy tanks and it cannot be seen/attacked by enemy tank. Another AT face northeastern attack enemy tank on the hill, make sure it is out of range of enemy tank. Enemy will send tank to here first, if nothing happens, the tanks will been sent down to attack my base/occupied points(this happened in my first few tries, and make me very busy.).
To get the medal, let AT and mortar to soften enemy vehicles then hold fire, move rangers in to get the kill. Make sure to let rangers attack at minimum(not maximum) distance so that all rangers can fire at enemy tanks at the same time and kill enemy tanks right away. May need to send rangers back to base to get back full strength. Only one team of ranger is needed to get medal. Another team of rangers is killed because I need the population for other units.
Once the defense at left side is stabled and rangers get the medal, keep 2AT, one tank(as back up), one sniper or jeep(for extra vision), and one engineer(repair tank trap) here, move other forces to right side. There are some mine-fields so make sure engineers have mine-sweeping skill. When moving forward on right side, use tank trap to block all road leading to the town center or off-map road so that no enemy tank will show up behind my forces.
There is another off-map tank entry at left side of the top fuel point. Use tank trap stop enemy tanks at the entry, use AT and tank to destroy them.
To complete this mission, either take all points or send sniper to the center of town, call artillery to destroy everything.
Hope this is helpful.
To Chessack: Maybe you can send your sniper or jeep out to find the hidden enemy observer. Off-map artillery can be dropped on visible area only. There must be some enemy unit(s) nearby.
If you can't get the medal, even having promoted your rangers, try spawning a ranger squad. You should then see the pop-up message 'Promote Rangers' and this will stay on the bottom left of the main screen along with the objective message. If the message is not there, you will not get the medal, so restart. If the message appears when the rangers spawn, it will be that ranger squad that needs to be promoted, so keep it alive!
I don't know if this makes any difference to getting the medal, but when that squad was promoted and I got the medal, I still had the two ranger squads from the renforcements (one at level 2, one at level 3).
Don't max your pop early. You need to wait until you get enough command points to spawn rangers.
Don't upgrade your rangers with Tommy guns. It works well at first as they keep their bazookas, but any casualties will be replaced with Tommy gunners who can't pick up panzershreks. You can end up with no AT weapons for them, and that makes them hard to promote.
If you're having trouble with the Nebelwerfers, you don't need to spend resources on snipers or armour. Use a left flank attack using all your at-start squads (except one to upgrade a building to an HQ). Take your troops to the bottom right corner of the map quickly to avoid the incoming rockets. Attack up the road, fragging snipers, etc, with grenades. Take out armour with sticky bombs. Move quickly or you'll be targetted by the Nebelwurfers. When you get to the corner at top left of the Nebelwurfers, swing right and frag the nearby MG and squad in their buidlings. Then move into the Nebelwurfer area from the top, fragging the remaining MG with grenades. Your squads will be pinned, you'll lose a few men, but they should get the job done with enough men left to man the Nebelwurfers and pick up panzershreks.
Don't reinforce your rifle squads yet.
Send your newly arrived reserves into this area to clean up the flak panzers and squads that will now attack you. Leave the Sherman there with the remaining rifle squads, and arm those squads with the nearby panzershreks, to defend against armour attacks.
Clean up the area just to the north with the Nebelwurfers - you might need to spot them first by sending a squad/tank/jeep in first as there are German troops here that only appear when you get near them.
Once you've done this, get the nearby points and swing up the right side of the map. Take your time. Soften up the route with the Croc, Nebelurfers and on-call arty from the command chain.
I usually probe ahead with the Croc upgraded with a dozer blade. It's a an excellent piece of kit and will kill off almost everything around this side of the map. Just go slowly so that you can pick up the AT weapon sites and have your rockets/arty deal with them. You will need AT armed squads and the Sherman for the top two objective points.
You can hammer the centre of the map with Nebelwurfers as you go, but leave the German HQ alone until you have the medal or the game will end. The HQ runs north-south near the right-centre of the map and has a tower in the middle.)
No need for kimakaze attacks to level-up the rangers if you are worried about losing them. No need to get them killed unnecessarily. Use them with the Sherman to take out tanks near the top right objective point, but otherwise, you can keep them out of the fight
Instead, just capture all but the last objective point (for me that's the one on the middle left of the map) and set up a kill zone at the German armour spawn point at top left of the map. My method can take a bit of time, but it works:
-send the rangers there with engineers (I use two squads) and the Croc
-build a double sandbag wall across or beside the point where the road from the spawn point meets the plaza area (a single wall might do the trick, but I build a double to be sure) (my double wall is two parallel strings of sandbags with a space about a little more than a jeep width between - it needs to be long enough to provide cover for a six-man squad)
-set the ranger squad that you want to promote behind the sandbags (if you don't know which one, do one-at-a-time)
- leave the Croc beside the squad to draw main armour fire and keep the engineers near to repair it
- build an aid post nearby (this is probably not necessary - I have not lost a ranger behind the sandbags yet)
- don't build mines at the German spawn point as this will just slow things down for you - they help with tanks, but they kill off the light armour before your rangers get a shot in
- keep other rangers out of the action or the higher level ones will steal the kill because they shoot better and faster
Once you have the medal, you can win the game in three ways:
- capture all the objective points
- destroy the German HQ
- destroy so much of the remaining German forces that you are given an automatic win before you have taken all points or destroyed the HQ (this happens when I capture all but one objective point and then used the Nebelwurfers for a bit of fun)
This is a fun mission once the Neb's are destroyed, i absolutely hate the first part of this mission of killing the Nebs
