and then she shall admonish you people for pestering her
You should use words with stronger and more distinctly negative connotations, Hiroshi. Words like "and then she shall place curses on you and your family for pestering her, then announce she is going to take even longer thus bringing the wrath of her long time fans upon you. There is no escape. It will be painful."
Not the Librarian, surely. He Of The Long Build Time.

I don't think that quite encompasses it. Something like...
Vague descriptions are always best, because they let people come up with their own horrors. And lo! It is written that should the great beast Deep_Chrome be needlessly pestered for more of her unmatched work, she shall be aroused to a great rage! Much shall be her fury, cleansing the world of those who would annoy such a mighty creature in fire and horror never before seen by mortal peoples!
Honour can be regained. Lives cannot. The one is not worth the other.

Yes, while my creative drawing side got a boost again, my writing side has rather miserably languished.
I can't promise anything as I seem to plow right through promises...but I'll try to work on something this weekend as I go away on vacation Tuesday. :/
On a side note, this thread's getting a little spammy. Think you guys can stay a little closer to the topic of the fic rather than the topic of getting me to post chapters?![]()
I'm sure this has been said before DeepChrome, but it bares repeating; dont force yourself, write as it comes. We'd rather wait a long time and get a great chapter, then wait a short time and get one that lacks your usual awesomness. To be on topic, can't wait to see Kai's reaction to Qwaar's little "joke".![]()
#456
The question to that is, Chaos saber, will he act like Rakim , or freak like Nika, of course being acleanser, he'd probably be very calm.
"I present to you the Phone Microwave! (name subject to change)
![]()
seeing how he acted with progie's tape measure, he'll probably show off moreso than if it was just the few that were going to attend.
Or maybe he'll call it off due to the lack of space since so many people are cramed into what to him would be such a small space.
Or maybe the cultist will strike again, only to be part of the 'show'
sky's the limit
If he does freak like Nika, it's going to be very messy. But like you said; he is a Cleanser, so he may be merely irked or not even care.
#459
I guess the question becomes, how will Nika react with all the "unclean" around her....
one thing that I'm sure everyone can agree on is that shit is going to hit the fan, one way or another... >.>
...maybe QJ will rejoice the proposed bloodshed in exploding beast T-MAT?
@Deepchrome
Also, with Ash in control of both Beast and keepers, is there going to be a sick hybrid of the two? Just a question..
#461
Dunno.
/me shrugs.
Going away on vacation for a few days--I'll probably be up for an update then because I'll be fully recharged and itching to write.![]()
Oh, just a thought, if QJ destroys both the Sajuuk and "the protector", would it have every reason to turn on the alliance and the beast because there would be nothing in the universe to stop it ?
Theres a new person here! So get out your (ion) guns and start shooting (at me)! If you want to.......... just coz I'm new.... *sniffles*
Anyways..... I've been reading Legacies and I'm just amazed at the creativity of people on this site! This story rules!! I might post a story myself if i hav enough creativity in me while the English summer sucks so much! Hope peeps are interested!
*The Exile pulls out heavy ion bolt launcher, then powers it up to critical, then uses the scope and shoots Pyromaniac*.
Pyro, if your going to make a fanfic make sure you use punctuation. (I'm not saying you don't but just to let you know) Also if its a long fanfic make sure you paragraph it.
I did a fanfic, and it was total sh*te.
Also deepcrome, when are you going to make your next update. I'm looking forward to this, I read the whole thing in 24 hours, (yes, without sleep) straight and I enjoyed it.
#466
Someday. No promises.
But I can guarantee you I will update someday, and that update will seriously rock.
Welcome to the forums Pyromaniac *Angel Borrows The Q-J for a minute and gives Pyro A full Broadside*
Edit: Woooo Rockin Update Soon If All Time Inbetween Chapters was DC Thinkin up this then this should Kill Pyro With it's awsome-ness(Joke)
*What's left of Pyromaniac squeeks*
That hurt.... urk... *dies*
*heh, then a evil necromancer comes along and brings him from the dead with abilitys that the beast have on HWcataclysm*
Anyway once Deepchrome is done I'll proboly read the whole thing again lol.
Welcome to the forums pyro, and DC, we await the next chapter with much eagerness and anticipation![]()

Thank you. At this rate, there'll be something up soon. That's all I can say.
Now would you people please turn down the spam? This is getting out of hand here, and if it keeps up, Riess will start smacking people around. He is a Space Ninja after all.
If it isn't about Legacies, then take it to another thread or IRC, okay? Especially the goofy role-play. That's preferably left on the IRC channels, not here.
/me squints dangerously at Exile, Angelofthenight, and Pyromaniac.
Yea but, but you have a urumi and a chocalate bar and your Kadeshi surly, that will keep Riess from us.
Anyway back on-topic.
I'll like to see what Kai will think of everyone watching his urumi training.
Heh I bet nikia will run to him and plead to have a go, and then he will slice her up. Progie wil run and cry over her sliced body saying "I love you, I love you, why, why did this happen to me?!?"heh but that can't happen because Nikia is Kai's sister. But I bet he wishes that he could slice her in 2.
Also I'm looking forward to the Hiigarans finding Kishiir Ra ship. (you know that god ship).
P.S: ChaosSaber said welecome to the forums DeepChrome, you have to say thank you,Heh get it?Welcome to the forums pyro, and DC,
Edit: dang, you already did say thankyou.

Now don't everybody spam like loons and thank me at once here.

Chapter 25
Noreena peered about the corridor leading to Gym Eight as she walked. People streamed through the facility’s large double doors, chattering excitedly away. She continued to breathe almost meditatively in a bid to calm herself down after the Hangar incident with Nika and her mother. She mentally tried to tune out the two heavy pairs of bootfalls trailing her every step, but to no avail.
Her two Vaygr Elite Guard bodyguards had suddenly reappeared out of nowhere when she had walked off the elevator on this deck. Both had obviously gone through their personal hells and their required treatment at Sickbay after the fighting onboard the Qwaar-Jet.
Her taller guard stood a good two inches over Makaan himself. He sported a shaved head, a dark brown goatee, and a fresh scar that ran down from his forehead, skipped over his miraculously still-intact eye, and continued on until it ended below his cheekbone. The shorter one resembled Jerel with a dark bronze complexion and jet-black hair. A vicious ion burn nearly covered the entire right side of his face, including his now whitened right eye. His left eye was as black as his hair.
The intensely determined expressions on their faces told Noreena they were more than ready to resume their duty of guarding her. Squashing her protest at seeing people who obviously needed to spend a little more time recovering, she had merely nodded to them and continued on their way. They had followed her everywhere since.
Now she walked towards Gym Eight, hoping that today’s near-disasters were all she would have to deal with.
A scampering body moving too fast to be recognized promptly sprinted between Noreena and the bald Guardsman to her left. The massive Vaygr promptly stiff-armed, then tossed the intruder aside. The body, suddenly recognized as that of one Reydavic Somtaaw, sailed into the air, then crashed into a stunned heap on the floor.
Oh, crap, not him too!
“Hello Rey,” Noreena said in an irritated deadpan that once again resembled Nika’s voice.
“Oh, hi Nor,” Rey sputtered through lungs that had the wind knocked out of them, then stared up at the two beefy Vaygr bracketing her. “Oh, um sorry. I forgot about your guards.”
“No harm done,” the Guardsman who had tossed Rey said in a nasty tone indicating that he knew Rey all too well and his wish that his throw had done more damage to the scrawny Worker pilot.
“Whoa, whoa, let’s not get into ancient history here,” Rey sputtered as horrified recognition dawned on his face.
He scampered to his feet, then slowly backed away from the towering Vaygr. The Guardsman scowled in disgust as he kept a smoldering glare pinned on him.
“If the fighting two days ago is ancient history, then I am going to entertain a million-year grudge on your sorry ass,” the Vaygr growled.
Noreena quirked an eyebrow.
“What’d he do?” she asked the guard.
“He clung to me as if he wanted to turn into a fly on my back, just to ensure one of those naa’tek cultists didn’t rip him apart. He would not shut up. He would not let go of me. And to make matters worse, he gave my position away to the enemy with his constant pleading. This is the worst example of stupidity I have ever had the misfortune to meet!”
Rey gulped as he stared dazedly at the massive finger pointed in his face like a sword about to impale his nose.
“Hey I was scared!” he protested. “I guess fear isn’t in your vocabulary.”
“It’s trained out of us at an early age,” the Guardsman retorted icily. “Now let me make myself clear. If you ever get in my way during a fight again, I will open you up from your neck to your gut. Got that?”
Rey went whiter than a Kadeshi ship’s hull, then nodded frantically.
“Now get out!”
He obeyed, scurrying away as fast as his feet could take him.
The huge Vaygr muttered a phrase in his native language that Noreena could loosely translate as “what a fucking idiot,” then shook his head to clear it.
“Sorry Khar. Fools like him tend to get the better of me,” he replied in a more amiable tone.
“Oh, he’s gotten the better of me a few times,” Noreena replied with a knowing grin. “Don’t worry about it. Oh, and you’ve authorization to get rough on him if he pisses you or me off.”
“Oooh!” Both Guardsmen chorused with the air of children who had just been given a new toy. Both had identical wide grins on their faces.
Damn, they sound just like Qwaar, Noreena thought with an inward snicker.
“Just don’t send him to Sickbay with too many injuries, okay?”
They both nodded eagerly.
“Good,” Noreena replied with a grin, then resumed walking. The pair trailed her with a little more spring to their steps.
Several moments later, the entrance to Gym Eight came into view.
So did Kai, who stood next to it in full Cleanser gear like a fixture bolted to the deck.
In front of him stood Reydavic, who peered at his reflection in the Cleanser’s gleaming faceplate as if it were a mirror. He brushed his thick mop of hair around, trying several different styles before settling on sweeping his bangs sideways. Then he grinned broadly, examining his teeth in his reflection. Once they had passed muster, he began examining his nose for any unsightly hairs.
“Oh, good,” he finally muttered to himself as he straightened. “Perfect for snagging some hot Vaygr chick for the night. Or maybe a Kadeshi? Yeah, how about the freckly one Prog keeps talking about. Wonder what she’d think of my...needleship?”
He wiggled his eyebrows gleefully, then headed for the doorway. Noreena fought down an urge to giggle maniacally. Unfortunately, even her wirehead training failed to keep the wide grin off her face.
Whoo, Rey! I couldn’t have been more of a dumbass if I tried. Qwaar’s probably recording this for blackmail purposes.
With a faint fwoosh sound, the entire top of Reydavic’s headful of hair promptly fell off him as if it had finally decided it was through living with him and his antics. Strands of dark brown hair fluttered lazily to lie in clumps at his feet, revealing a head that now sported a buzzcut at its top.
The Worker pilot blinked in confusion, then reached up to feel the top of his head. His eyes widened when his fingers found hair short enough to rival the Fleet Academy’s most severe buzzcut.
Then the Cleanser turned his head to face the stunned Worker.
“I am not a mirror,” he said in a tone so pointed that Noreena and the two Guardsmen flinched.
The bewildered Worker pilot gaped as he realized the black-clad figure before him was anything but a statue. Then his eyes went as round as Noreena had ever seen them get when he realized how deadly Kai must be if he could take the hair off his head without ever revealing what he’d used to do so.
With a terrified squeak, he promptly scurried through the Gym’s doors for fear of losing more than just his hair. Noreena and her two bodyguards stared in dazed shock for several seconds, then burst into hysterical laughter.
It took several minutes for the trio to calm down. When they had, Noreena regarded the Cleanser quizzically. That must have been his urumi, given how sharp it must’ve been to slice that much hair off so smoothly while making only the slightest of noises.
“Training,” Kai replied smoothly, anticipating what she would say.
“Right,” she muttered.
“I never even saw it,” a sad voice interrupted them.
Noreena glanced over to see Nika standing nearby, staring disconsolately at the spot Reydavic had just vacated.
“That is the point, Nika,” Kai reminded her.
“I know, but I wanted to see it,” she replied in a tone that reminded Noreena of a sad five-year-old.
“You will,” he promised reassuringly.
“Wait,” the taller of the two Guardsmen interrupted, eyeing Nika oddly. He slowly took two steps towards her, then leaned over her as she had just crawled out from under a rock.
Nika blinked, then looked up at him. Upon discovering how much taller than Makaan this guard was, she promptly seemed to lose two whole inches off her height while her eyes turned into saucers.
“You’re Kadeshi?” he finally asked with a quirked eyebrow.
She shakily nodded.
“Really? You’re Kadeshi?” he repeated.
The young woman nodded again, her eyes so wide Noreena thought they might fall out of their sockets and roll around on the deck. The Guardsman laughed sharply as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“Hah! Damn. You’re tiny.”
Nika sputtered for a moment, then fell silent as if her ability to form words had been thoroughly scrambled. The Vaygr shrugged as if her reaction was something he ran into often, and returned to his position next to Noreena.
The young Kadeshi remained where she stood, gaping in catatonic shock.
“You’d best get to your seats,” Kai spoke up. “The demonstration will begin shortly.”
Then he noticed his sister. He glided over to her and waved a hand in front of her catatonic face.
That jolted Nika out of her shock. She pinned a smoldering glare on him.
“Must you do that in public?!” she hissed.
“When your reaction to a tall person is the same every time, how could I not?” Kai teased.
Her glare worsened, then she shook her head disgustedly.
“The things family will do to you,” she muttered as Kai chuckled lightly, then recollected herself.
She looked up at Kai, her face beaming with a huge grin.
“So when can I see that urumi up close?”
“How close?” Kai asked as if already knowing what the answer would be, and dreading it.
“Close enough to see the whole blade and its handle,” she replied with a huge grin.
“Translation: you want to hold it with the blade fully spooled out,” the Cleanser sighed wearily.
Nika eyed him hopefully, blinking her suddenly very wide eyes innocently as her manic grin grew even wider. Then she nodded vigorously.
“No,” Kai sighed.
She locked another of his puppy-dog-eyed expressions onto him.
“Pleeee”—
“Let’s not start that again,” the Cleanser interrupted in a tone bordering on irritated.
“But”—
“No buts.”
Nika sighed sadly.
“You’d better go get a seat,” the Cleanser reminded her. “They’re filling up fast.”
“Okay,” she said glumly, then trudged off to the gym’s entrance.
Kai sighed, then shook his head as he watched the Gym Eight doors close behind her.
“I should’ve seen that coming,” he sighed as he turned back to Noreena, “especially after the Qwaar-Jet suggested making the demonstration public.”
Noreena blinked.
“Wait, you mean making it public wasn’t—”
“If you mean that you thought the Qwaar-Jet had pranked me? No, that is not the case. I welcome the opportunity to show my full range of capabilities. Besides, if we are to be allies, there should be some understanding of what our peoples are capable of.”
“Well, that’s good to hear,” Noreena replied with relief. Then she blinked.
“Wait. Full range of...?”
“The Godship suggested I make it a complete demonstration of a Cleanser’s capabilities within the limits of our code.”
“Nice,” was all Noreena could said as her two Guardsmen promptly did double-takes at Kai.
“Guess we’ll get quite a show. I wish Qwaar told me, but you know how he doesn’t always notify his Khar of everything.”
Kai cocked his head sideways as if quirking an eyebrow at her snide tone, then nodded.
“Somehow this doesn’t surprise me,” he dryly remarked.
Noreena snorted lightly.
“I’ve gotten adjusted having that happen these days. Well, I’d better go find my seat too.”
“Of course, Khar. The demonstration will begin in five minutes.”
“Thank you.”
With that, she walked through Gym Eight’s doors, shaking her head in amazement at the Godship’s behavior. What more of his mischief was she going to be subject to today?
Chapter 26
Noreena strode into the massive, brightly-lit chamber known as Gym Eight with her two bodyguards. One entire wall was taken up with bleachers that had begun to fill quickly with people from all walks of the Allied Staging Area. A sea of target dummies in various poses while holding various guns and bladed weapons, took up most of the gym’s floor.
She recognized Revkiir sitting with Makaan and a group of Vaygr officers, then spotted Karan and Ifriit seated in the front row, the Somtaaw-Sa’s floatchair nestled up against the end of the bleachers at one corner of the gym. The two kiith leaders chatted cheerfully away, grateful for their break from the daily routines kept by Allied brass. Noreena’s eyes roamed about, spotting a buzz-cut Reydavic sitting nervously amongst Workers while a few howled at his comical new hairstyle. Her gaze finally settled on Talia, who sat huddled around a steaming thermos mug of coffee in a still-empty stretch on the front row.
Noreena strode towards the painter, who looked ill at ease with being surrounded by this many people. She seated herself next to the young woman while her Guardsmen took up seats on either side of the pair.
Talia startled slightly at the sight of two beefy Vaygr settling in on either side of her, then recognized Noreena by the brilliance of her white Captain’s beret in the gym’s lighting. She smiled weakly in greeting.
“Hi,” was all she said before taking another sip of her coffee.
“How you holding up?” Noreena asked as she plopped onto the bench.
“Okay I guess,” she said, “inventory’s been...rough. I lost everything except two unfinished paintings in the back room. And I gotta redo them anyways. They melted in the fire.”
Noreena nodded sympathetically. It had looked as if Talia’s kiosk would be a total loss the last time she saw it; she wasn’t too surprised to see her prediction proven true.
“Um, I dunno if I should tell you this,” Talia spoke up with a shy smile, “but Kai’s been helping me with the cleanup.”
Hmm, I’d wondered where he’d gotten off to lately. Well, given that crush of his on her, it’d figure.
“Really?”
“Yeah. He’s, um, really nice,” the painter replied, her face suddenly going bright pink. “I thought Kadeshi would be all cold and nasty but...he’s not. He’s also stronger than he looks.”
Noreena fought down a snicker at this; anyone who failed to notice that Talia had a crush on the Cleanser was blind, deaf, and dumb as far as she was concerned.
“Well he is a Cleanser,” she remarked to Talia with a shrug. “They probably train constantly to stay in top shape for a fight.”
“Yeah. He would,” Talia nodded eagerly. Her face went even pinker, causing Noreena to wonder if the painter had already begun fantasizing about him.
Another weight plopped into the bleachers. Noreena glanced over to see Progie settling in for the show. He sat next to the bald Guardsman on Noreena’s right, while Talia had Noreena’s left and was bracketed by the other Guardsman. The painter smiled at him as he waved at the two women.
“Hey, how you guys doing?” he asked cheerfully.
“Fine, fine,” Noreena replied with a grin.
“Should be a good sh—oh crap.”
Noreena blinked at the change of expression on his face, then glanced over to see Nika walking grumpily amongst the streams of people entering the gym. The reason for his horror immediately became clear to her: the only visible stretch of bench left was on the first row, and right next to Progie.
This had also occurred to the Kadeshi, for she frowned as she came to a halt. Her intense blue gaze scanned for any other empty spaces, only to come up empty. She scanned again in vain, then scowled.
She eyed Progie warily for several long seconds, her eyes conveying the depth of utter distaste she held for him. He was obviously the very last person she wanted to spend this demonstration seated next to.
“Help?” Progie squeaked. “I don’t wanna leave here in a body bag.”
“Okay, okay,” Noreena muttered.
Then an idea occurred to her. She scooted sideways on the bench, opening a space between herself and Talia. Then she motioned Nika towards the new seat. The Kadeshi blinked in shock, then promptly walked over. However intimidating she might be, the Holy One was far preferable company to the researcher. She took the utmost of care to avoid bumping into Noreena or Talia as she settled in, then peered about eagerly for Kai’s arrival.
Next to the bald Vaygr Guardsman, Progie let out a long, relieved sigh.
Noreena peered about as well, wondering when the demonstration would begin. Just as she opened her mouth to say something, Qwaar’s voice boomed through the gym, rattling the bleachers with the raw volume he poured into it to be heard over the crowd’s chattering.
“GREETINGS EVERYONE! WE SHALL NOW COMMENCE!”
The gym fell so silent Noreena could hear the ventilators humming in the distance.
“I NOW INTRODUCE TO YOU KAI, CLEANSER OF KADESH!”
“Thank you for coming,” Kai’s voice spoke up, his voice sounding like a faint tenor against the Godship’s booming bass.
Noreena blinked. Kai had somehow just appeared in the middle of the gym as he walked out from between a pair of gun-toting dummies. He carried his helmet in the crook of his left arm, and bore a perfectly calm expression on his face.
The two dummies that had bracketed his entry suddenly came apart as if they had refused to be held together any longer by their internal fixators. Loud thumps and thuds rang through the gym, reducing any final chattering to utter silence.
“As some of you already know,” Kai began, “Cleansers are among the elite of our forces defending the Garden against outside intrusion. They are the ultimate boarding action—capable of eliminating all life on a frigate-class vessel within twenty minutes or less.”
He took several steps aside, lazily flicking his free hand as if slightly nervous. The ventilators’ noise only partially masked a familiar fwoosh .
The dummy to his right promptly fell apart in several cleanly cut pieces. The entire gym seemed to gasp in shock.
“As you can imagine, we are quite capable of meeting what would seem to some an unrealistic deadline. Only one Cleanser is sent per boarding action, for to send two is”—another flick of his right wrist suddenly sent two gun-toting dummies next to him collapsing into pieces on the deck—“overkill.”
The spectators gaped yet again. It was understandable if the audience hadn’t seen what exactly Kai had used the first time, but for the blade to escape their notice the second time was quite baffling.
Nika’s face now bore an exceedingly smug smirk on it. Noreena fought an urge to roll her eyes as she kept her attention trained on Kai.
“A Cleanser”—Kai lifted his helmet with his free hand and put it on—“is well-trained in the hand-to-hand fighting arts, as well as the use of a full range of throwing, stabbing, and slicing blades. Other fighters handle the use of pistols and dart-guns.”
He walked up to a trio of dummies, then suddenly spun on one heel. All three collapsed in the blink of an eye.
“However, those are not a Cleanser’s primary weapons.”
“Here it comes,” Nika whispered excitedly, her face shifting to the manic grin Noreena had seen on her before.
“First of our primary weapons is the sheer element of surprise. A Cleanser onboard a ship will not move or act as an enemy is expected to. A Cleanser’s suit—this suit—is designed for an element of...unsettlement.”
He nodded sagely as quite a few members of the audience squirmed slightly or nodded in agreement. Noreena quirked a sardonic smile as she remembered the time Kai had walked onboard that crowded elevator several days ago. It was obvious anyone else who had seen him out and about in full battle gear remembered how his appearance had made them feel.
“Yes, those of you who have encountered me in this suit before know what I am talking about.”
He paused to let those members of his audience calm down, then continued.
“However, what a Cleanser is most widely known among the Protectors for is...this.”
With a flick of his right wrist, and a notably loud fwoosh, five dummies promptly collapsed to the floor in halves. Noreena noticed the entire stadium audience twitch collectively in startled reaction.
He waited several beats for the fresh realization to sink into his observers’ minds. A ripple of murmuring rose among the gym’s occupants, only to wither away when he motioned slightly for silence.
“That would be the urumi,” he finally said. “A single carbon nanofiber thread approximately three of your meters in length. Extremely tough, very flexible, and quite invisible to the naked eye. And it is encased in this handle when fully retracted.”
He lifted his right hand, then several of its fingers to reveal a round black cylinder slightly larger than the average laser pointer.
Noreena heard Nika emit a very tiny squeak just then. She quirked an eyebrow as she glanced at the young Kadeshi. She sat frozen, that same manic expression of glee plastered on her face. Sighing, Noreena returned her attention to Kai.
“The weapon’s name has its origins in the Language of the Gods. Ur translates to wind, and Umi to sword.”
He waited a moment for his audience to process that information, then flicked his right hand again. The fwoosh noise was now loud enough to echo in the gym faintly. A dummy’s gun suddenly fell in half. The dummy itself then gradually fell apart.
“That noise, like the wind, is why it is called such,” Kai explained in the suddenly intense silence. “All one may hear before their death is that sound.”
“So you’ll never, ever see it?” Nika murmured sadly.
“Good question,” Kai replied cheerfully.
He pointed the handle at the floor and pressed a button on its side. A faint clang could be heard after a few seconds. But whatever made that noise was utterly invisible; try as she might, Noreena couldn’t even begin to squint enough to see what the urumi’s flexible blade looked like.
The Cleanser then looked up at the ceiling, and nodded.
The gym’s lights slowly dropped to a mere fraction of their original brilliance, casting a dim blue glow on the gym’s surroundings rather than their brilliant white glare. As Noreena’s eyes adjusted, she spotted a glowing blue squiggle lying in a loose tangle at Kai’s feet. Faint pulses of blue energy trailed down the luminous thread from the weapon’s handle.
Nika gasped in gleeful shock as she realize what Kai had just given her. Noreena, finally spared from notice by the darkness, rolled her eyes in exasperation.
“It is invisible under bright light,” Kai explained, “because its structural support field emits a barely visible blue frequency which is only seen in dim environments. That field is produced by a generator in the handle, and is conducted along the length of the blade. It exists to prevent the blade from snapping during battle.”
The glowing blue thread suddenly writhed in the air like a living thing with the familiar whoosing sound, then clanged softly on the deck as another pair of dummies came apart and noisily crashed into heaps.
“Now that takes me to the dangers of using such a weapon,” Kai explained quietly. “As you can see, a carbon monofiber blade is capable of slicing through anything. Flesh. Metal. Bones. Glass. You already know sending two Cleansers on a single boarding action is overkill. This weapon’s ability to cause tremendous collateral damage is unparalleled.”
He paused for a beat, then went on.
“If an ally stands within the range of the blade as it moves, they can be killed just as easily as an enemy. If an urumi’s wielder is careless enough, certain techniques”—he flicked his wrist lightly, causing the glowing monofiber blade to move lightly through the air like a simple paper streamer—“can turn deadly if the blade intersects any part of the wielder’s body.”
At that, the blade veered dangerously close to Kai’s neck. He promptly leaned his entire body backwards, letting the urumi’s blade fly past him as his his helmet’s reflective faceplate bore a twisted replica of that deadly blue line of light. Another flick of his wrist sent the blade out again, causing it to slice through a dummy’s torso. The dummy’s entire upper half looked as if it would stay atop the body it had been severed from, then fell forwards to thud noisily on the gym floor as if its fall had been set by a timer.
Kai nodded to the gym’s ceiling again.
The lights came back up to full intensity, causing people everywhere to squint against their brilliance. Once Noreena’s eyes had adjusted she peered at the gym floor where Kai stood.
He had demolished every single dummy standing there except for one, which stood behind him.
Kai turned on his heels and bowed to the audience, making an elegant flourish with the hand holding the urumi.
Then the final dummy’s upper half slowly slid off the diagonal slice in its abdomen as if exquisitely timed, and crashed to the floor. Then the dummy’s legs came apart from an X-shaped pair of diagonal cuts in them.
As one, the gym audience broke into loud applause.
Kai held up his hand. That single motion commanded instant silence from everyone in the entire room.
“I’m not done yet,” he said quietly.

Oh hell...great chapters C, this is gonna be one interesting show. Again C great chapters as always, can't wait for the next set.
Ha! those dummies got owned!
never saw Rey comming. At all. But it was most welcome, to say for the very least. Increadible job DeepChrome! Increadible job! Well worth the long wait, and it was too easy to visuallize the almighty cleanser wiping out those dummies.
also, on the topic of the first part of the first new chaper, everyone loves new toys! :toy:![]()
I laughed a lot when i heard about Rey's new haircut!
You've probably heard this too often DeepChrome, but you REALLY should get this story published!
Keep it up!
Wow![]()
A single carbon nanofiber thread
Bl**** Hell (Literally)
Damn What Next 30 Of Qwaar's little Bots V.S Kai?“I’m not done yet,”
Ooooooh, now that is good. And it really makes sense, a nanofibre thread would be a single super-sharp edge, and with an enegry field, well, woot.
#481
Rey was indeed quite the surprise. And to finally place the excellent art from the art thread into prose form is... hilarious. Kadeshi are quite tiny aren't they, especially where Nika's concerned?
With that little introductory demonstration, I gather that Ash and his cultists would think twice about sending in boarders again. Unless of course you are actually planning something that would actually begin to tax a Cleanser's abilities?
I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

ooh, can Rey be a demonstration Dc? huh? can he?
or is progie in this and going to send down a new swarmer which Kai will slice in two, or. or...or...(Deleted to keep Chrome from murdering me.)
And what Atma said, are you going to test just how tough a cleanser is?
#483
Nika's just tiny. Kai and Rakim are around the 6-foot range.I'm sure there are other tiny 'deshi lurking about though.
I figure character heights to be more or less as listed below. Mostly just are estimates, but I have nailed Noreena's, Nika's, Kai's, and Mak's more or less.
Noreena: 5 ft. 9 in.
Nika: 5 ft. 7 in. (I'm 5 ft. 7 and 3/4 so I'm slightly taller.)
Mak: 6 ft. 3 in.
Ifriit: 5 ft. 11 in.
Karan: 5 ft. 10 in. (naturally tall...as described)
Kai: 6 ft.
Rakim: 6 ft. 1 in.
Rey: 6 ft.
Progie: 5 ft. 10 in.
That tall bald Vaygr: 6 ft. 5 in.
With that in mind, Nika's just tiny becuase she's the shortest, no questions asked. I think Saeri's probably the smallest of the bunch, likely a 5 ft. 6... *shrugs*
I'll say maybe to the "testing a Cleanser's abilities" bit. Qwaar is indeed the God of Pain, Enslavement, and War. We'll see.
Muwuhahahahahaha, mommie? can I be a cleanser like Kai?please huh pleeeease.
Anyway, lol. I can't wait to see the new swarmer and what Nika's reaction will be could it be like "awww progie I love you for remaking my favorote ship". or will be " you fu**ing a**hole you wrecked my favorote ship diiiie!!" heh, I'd be intrested if it came both ways, like Nika will hug progie telling him thanks then whack himin the face and say die!!
I hate cliffhangers
I got the impression Nika was a purist...
I reckon that blade that went into Noreena's mum's arm will find its way into Progie's chest
I reckon the only way she would like him was if he sorted out the fuel problem...
Anyways, keep it up!! Great work, as usual

So, Progies goal is to fix the fule problem eh? Well he could always just add a frigate of fuel with a cloaking generator behind it attached to the fighter.
but really, he's got a tough job. Make it better, faster, stronger more lethal increase it's operating range AND keeping it realtively the same, the last thing he wants to do is make it into a corvette class ship.... or does he.
Single atom carbon chain..... That's pretty sharp.
#487
funny how Nika turns out to be taller than me
the problem with such a thin weapon
is that it's near impossible to
try and get a little paper streamer to lash out at it's full length
or to cast a fishing line without a hook and sinker
and urumi would probably require at least several grams of weight at the end
for it to actually be able to function as a ranged melee weapon
#488
Don't worry Hiroshi, Nika and I are the same height, and Nika towers over my sisters...
And my mom..... and my dad.... and my uncles.....and half the people in my school.
And i'd have to agree with Hiroshi on the weight thing, unless the energy field adds the beef needed to use it.
Maybe Progie could put scaled down energy cannons on the new swarmer, then it would have EVEN more hitting power than it already did in the first place.
Then sort out the fuel problem, and BOOM!, you have a perfect Swarmer Mk II, Tada!!!
Me an Karen are (about) the same height! I feel privilaged.
As for the Urumi thing, it would either require some mass on the end, or (as I imagine how Deepchrome has it in her head) that the energy field gives the blade a air-deprived environment, thus eleminating air resistance that would make the blade act like a fishing line than a whip.
#491
Okay.
The field is what gives it the extra strength/rigidity when needed. Remember Kai said it had a structural-integrity field to prevent snappage. Perhaps *gasp* it does other things?
Also a string of that thinness doesn't really have air resistance per se. It has other issues as seen when you try to throw a piece of paper around. The field is the correcting element not only preventing unwanted bendage, but allowing it to stay more rigid in curved shapes or turns depending on the hand motions of the user.
I'll have a Q and A pop up in the next chapter to get this stuff going in further depth, so no worries, okay?![]()
that was an awesome chapter chrome, loved it.
I do wonder what Kai has left to show everyone?
Also, me and Kai are the same height, and thats pretty sweet!
Dunno mabey DC will come up on my offer and use 30of qwaar's little bots to Try and pummel Kai but he will win?
Ha!!!I tower over all of them exept for that bold Vaygar I come in at 6ft 3in
I'd love to hear the Bentusi's thought on Kai's awesomeness, as well as Qwarr's thoughts on having an urumi.
or perhaps Qwarr is studying Kai, so that he could 'bestow' our little khar with the same *(sensored for family appropriate-ness) awesomeness* that Kai enjoys.
Oh Qwarr, you little demon you...
oh yeah, i forgot about them, whatever happened to the bentusi DC?
I cant wait to see how they`re going to talk, as in ship to ship, or are the bentusi gonna actually come out of their ships?
why am I thinking of Hand's story when you say "or are they coming out of their ships"? Dear Lord, have mercy on my soul.
I'm fairly certain Chrome is going along with the HW2 established cannon that the Bentusi are infact, so far as can be confirmed within the accessible galaxies, completely deceased.
Now, Qwaar loading up Noreena with leet cleanser abilities, that I could see. Just as easily as I can see Noreena not actually ever wanting to use them for fear of slipping up, at least until backed into a corner by a foolish Ashoran, he might regret that encounter even more than his last one![]()
I would agree with you, but for the presence of Bentusi ships at the Battle of Mortann. I can't recall how they came to be there (aside from popping out of hyperspace at a time that was very convenient for the alliance).
Edit: Ashoran vs Kai would be an interesting matchup...
I better go back and reread everything... I have no distinct memory of bentusi in this story, possibly because it and a couple other stories all started to morph together during the great story hiatus of 07.
