Would anyone like a defensive mod?

    Would anyone like a defensive mod?

    I guess I´ll never play online since micromanaging and quick storming just isnt my cup´a tea, I am too slow, too clumsy and far too agitated when I get under pressure.

    But I do enjoy the skirmish mode, the AI at normal seems to suit my lack of ability just fine, however I would give gold to have a defensive mode option.

    One could start with a headquarters, some buildings and 1 territory but a lot of ressources plust some stationary units. The other could start with all territories occupied, some more units but few ressources turning this into a base defence game where you have to hold on for a certain amount of time. I LOVE defense missions, I feel confortable defending .. less confortable attacking.

    The above was just an example, numbers could be tempered with to achieve an overall starting balance between attacker and defender.


    Do you think such a mod would appeal to anyone besides me? if you would like it .. would you rather play attacker or defender?

    Umm i woulding mind a defensive gametype, i.e. defend the target or something like that. BUT i dont think it would work out that well to be honest with you. A Human player will either rush you with infantry, rush you with armor, pound you to hell in a handbasket with massive ammounts of artillery, or do a combo of both. Holding onto any 1 position on a map is hard as it is, if you were forced to hold a single point for an entire map... you would be poned.
    Unless there were some changes, such as the ability to create hardened defensive points, ala trenches, gun emplacements, ect that would be much harder to destroy with artillery, then i think your gametype would be rather easy to beat as an attacker.
    for example:
    You are defending in some trenches, with 2 AT guns, 2 Shermans, and a bunch of mortars and a howitzer, along with several divisions of infantry with mg support.
    ..............
    wait a minute......
    ..............
    I cant figure out a way to counter that example... Assault with infantry, pounded by mortars, pinned by mgs. Assault with armor, have to have massive numbers, but would get pounded by howitzer, unless they rush through and break through your lines and kill the howi, then a rush from a combined arms force.

    It really would be, as they say 3:1 numbers of attackers vs defenders. But if the axis had nebenwerfers, they could just pound you to crap with them, move them before you attack, and then repeat untill your HQ or other structures are gone. Snipers would also be a problem, cloaked sniper taking out your nests and then retreating.




    Ok, i think it might work! Just maybe, i'm all wraped up in my example. If it would be fun for you, then might as well have the option to make it.

    Holding off swarms of attackers can be fun.

    well, i did't love the mountain missions. but the 4th (?) mission where i had to hold the town with 3 bridges. that was my favourate and most heart racing moment of the game.

    but i second your suggestion

    so basically you're asking for scenario play...I don't thnk any modder is capable of implementing this.

    Play the maps with bridges in where you can defend one side. Block off all access across the bridges. This stops the AI from bothering to do anything other than build up it's army. It won't bother attempting to cross the bridges as it knows it can't get across. Then heavly defend one bridge and then make a hole in it's defence. Watch the AI rush everything to that bridge and watch your defenders open up It's fun but gets boring, much like the rushing on multiplayer.

    It would be fun if we could get some willing players together to play a defensive type scenario where say, the Axis would get 2/3rds of the map and entrench themselfves, and the Allies try to break through. And once the you beat em back to their base, you reverse roles.

    This would rely on having people not be assholes though, and everyone in the game would have to cooperate.

    new game mode

    I had a thought on this subject, but it would require Relic to implement.
    My idea was for a defensive-attack type of game for multiplayer\skirmish mode.
    In this game the object would be for one team to defend and the other to attack and after the round roles would be reversed. There would be no CP's, both teams would get a set amount of resources at the start and\or a set rate of resource intake. The attacking player would get more resources then the defender.
    The game starts with a 10\15min build up phase, where the defender can get their defenses set up and the attacker can build up his attacking force. When the timer runs out the attacker has a set amount of time to destroy the defenders HQ, if not done intime then the defender wins.
    For obvious reasons all 'special' attacks would have to be disabled, otherwise the attacker could just sit back and arty the HQ to death, or it could be made imune to such attacks.
    Most of the single player maps would probably work great for this type of gameplay and some of the multiplayer maps would work too. Though it would be nice to have a whole new set of specially made maps

    I think it is a great idea BlitzForce, pretty much exactly the same as my idea. Though I prefer destroying HQ over getting a CP :devil:
