    Port Issues

Can't seem to play DoW online at all, tried the lobby, direct connecting, direct hosting, and nothing.

I tried the Port test in the sticky thread, and got the 'bad result' example, with the exception of one line:

Sending udp packet from 6112 to 6112
Received from /66.134.89.225:6112 to 6112 "udp pass"
udp port 6500 Receive timed out
udp port 27900 Receive timed out
udp port 27901 Receive timed out
udp port 29910 Receive timed out
tcp port 6667 Accept timed out
tcp port 28910 Accept timed out
tcp port 29900 Accept timed out
tcp port 29901 Accept timed out
tcp port 29920 Accept timed out

I suspect it's the ISP offered by my accomodation, trying to prevent torrent downloading and such. I don't use a router, am I right in thinking there is no way around this?

Edit: With the above situation, will it be possible to play LAN if I link to my roommate via an ethernet cable?

The ports could be blocked by software on your computer (shut down any security software and rerun the test) but it is most likely to be your accomodation connection. You could try this workaround.

You should be able to play over a LAN without any problems.

    :/

Unfortunately I seem to have the same results with that software, even with just DOW installed. Thanks for the repsonse though...shame, because I was looking forward to the DC expansion, but its no good to me without multiplayer.

I dont think the sockscap method will allow you to get a "good" nettest result but it should allow you to play the game.

Well DoW told me it couldn't link my game to the game-hosting list, so my friend couldn't join my game (and vice-versa) in a lobby, and Direct connect games cut off either before or during the loading screen.

I followed the settings in the post, is there anything else I can change? I have absoloutely no idea what those programs do, my advanced understanding of the internet is pretty limited.

Edit: Worth mentioning that since, i've tried with WA, and the most i've managed is getting into a game for about 2 seconds via a direct conn to a friend before it dropped me. The game seems laggy in general, sound stutters (from the menu onwards, running in Win 98 compat mode as per the post in that thread).

In the lobby, i can locate and connect to a game my friend is hosting, but after the loading bar is full, i hang at 'waiting for other players', and he says I get booted as soon as his loads.
