it would cope just fine and would for sometime into the future, esp coupled with one of the newer generation video-cards
May I suggest www.systemrequirementslab.com

Moving to technical forums, as this is not limited to CoH.
Ah ok
well the ram and graphics shouldnt be a prob
4GB DDR2 PC-6400 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 x 1024MB

I was just wandering if that cpu would help performance

Is this your current processor? And I'll say it'll last a few years. That processor is considered high end at the moment. Look how outdated the 3.0+ GHz Pentium 4 processors are, but they're still very viable for gaming (mine is over 2 years old now).

You'd be better off investing in just a pair of 1GB DIMMs, there's very little need for 4GB of RAM at the moment. The money you save there could be put towards an Audio card or a better motherboard.Originally Posted by Ajdabomb
You may also be better off getting a cheaper graphics card such as the 7950GT 512MB. The 7950GX2 would require the purchase of a higher spec PSU.
4GB DDR2? You must be kidding. Doesn't 4GB cause stability problems?

Why should it?
But it is exaggerated with 4 GB, unless You run a high-end server or graphic rendering workstation or some...

I heard that some PCs can't handle the management of 4GB RAM unless you're running a 64-bit CPU and WinXP x64 edition..?

Thats up to the motherboard and operative system. WXP can handle it.

Yeah, you can go up to 4GB with 32 bit.
Yeah i know 4gb is alittle over the top..... Point is i really need a comp that will last a good 2-3 years before i even need to consider upgrades. The comp specs i mensioned are for a alienware Area-51™ 7500
My current desktop is using a 1.6 p4 and 700 and somit mb ram. The graphics card is a 6800 ultra.... While it hasnt done me bad over the years i am getting tired of the constant upgrades it needs. :disagree:

Upgrade basic tutorial:
- CPU is overrated. If you buy a modern CPU now it will last You 2-3 years as intended or more...
- Graphic card should follow well spread established standard (pci-x 16) and you will be able to upgrade it once or maybe even twice again.
- RAM same, but if You buy a lot now You push upgrades ahead of you.
Basically, the MAIN thing to upgrade for gaming performance, is always the graphic card. Forget about CPU and RAM if they are modern. As an example You can still buy a number of really high-end graphic cards for AGP, despite that socket being very old now.
Buy normal standard components. No specialized solutions or custom builds by any brand. Think "How do I replace [any] item in two years time?". There are brand pc's that have special custom constructions that will force You to buy their exclusive expensive parts for an upgrade. Waste of money.

If you only need the computer to last 2 or 3 years you're well over the requirements with those specs.
-an E6700 is, short of spending $1000+ for an X6800, the best processor on the market right now and will definitely last you at least 2 years unless some miracle tech breakthrough comes down the pipe.
-4GB of RAM is excessive. Any current gen games really only need 2GB to run really well so buying twice as much for twice the price is silly unless you do a lot of rendering or encoding work. Also, RAM prices are high right now as a result of the increased demand from the conroe release. If you can, I would advise you to wait until the prices come back down a bit before you buy - especially if you're planning to spring for 4GB.
-the 7950GX2 is the best single card on the market right now. Technically it's SLI in a single package so I guess it's 2 cards, but you know what I mean. It'll cost you a small fortune for it, but if you want to guarantee you can run games at excellent framerates with all the eyecandy maxed then this card will definitely do it.
Personally, I would advise you to go for some less top-end upgrades; especially if you're buying from alienware. It'll save you the cash and you'll still have an excellent system that will be able to last you a couple years.
Why is it always me who has to point at Microsoft?Originally Posted by deputysalty

Just kidding man...But funny enough I checked that site... They don't list Company of Heroes! And CoH carries the "Games for Windows" logo on it! :dolt:
Getting the thread back on semi-topic...
I have noticed that several games I own report that I have 2GB of ram if I run the utils they come with - Like LucasArts games and a couple others.
Windows and several other reputable utils like SciSoft Sandra and 3DMark always report the correct amount of 3GB.
I've not had any problems with the games that say 2 instead of 3... And I guess I'm content for now to let the sleeping dragon stay where it is. As long as it does not seem to cause a problem I'm not gonna mess with it.
But this goes toward the whole 4GB ram thing. - I would suppose if my 3gb isn't being seen by some games that 4gb won't either... Unless you are running XP64 or some such which I am not... Still got an old Socket A 3200+ in my rig. As a prevous poster stated - getting a high end GPU is your best defense IMHO. I have a AGP 7800GS that keeps me in the current games quite well.
