units flickering

hi. having a slight issue with playing DOW which might force me to reformat. I'd recently upgraded from win98SE to XP (yes yes, stfu) and have found the transition less than satifactory.

Most of my "high-end" games such as DOW have graphical problems now. I'm betting it's because i have something 98 compatible-only installed still. or something...i dunno. that's why i post here.

Okay, my symptoms are a squad of men will constantly have units blinking out of existance graphically.

I'd obviously realized my nVidia card needed upgrading so i plugged in 91.47 reference drivers. I tried to do the old (uninstall/etc that uberjumper always talks about) but the freaking xp is sooooo annoying
i think it cooperated on the uninstall
Anyways, i was playing Rome:TotalWar and they suggested i try older drivers, which i did, the 84.21 drivers (the name of that file is, "84.21_forceware_winxp2k_english_whql") which sort of fixed some of my RTW issues - and fixed a rather annoying graphical glitch (remember the old homeworld cataclysm issue with the pie slice shaped visual error) but left me with that blinking unit thingie.

So, bottom line is that recommending "the newest drivers" for my graphics card will result in raspberry sound effects erupting from your computer.

I'm sure the problem is something exceedingly obvious and i'll feel like a tool for a bit.

See if updating the game to the latest version helps.

Version 1.4 - August 25th, 2005 not sure exactly what you're trying to get at. I believe that's the latest version of DOW. That's what i've always had, even before i switched to XP...the 1.41 was to deal with WA expansion which i haven't installed yet. I'll do what you say, but i guarantee you that's not the problem at all.

The latest version of both DoW and WA is v1.51, so you should update it.

i appreciate the help, and it's nice to finally see relic gain a dependable ingame patch ability (remember sierra? ick) But, my problem has continued. If you read my original post on the subject, my game ran fine in win98SE with the latest drivers for my hardware. It's got nothing to do with DOW patches, ableit it's nice to see relic doing a fine job patching regularly.
