Long Version
The following are rules and guidelines to use this forum, by following these guidelines you ensure that your balance Issue experience can continue.
Topic Format
When Posting a Thread, You must include game, the patch version (currently 1.2 for DC), the Race Icon (click here for reference) and a meaningful title. So for example;
[DC 1.11]Firewarrior Shield Drones. This ensures the readers know what your talking about and can quickly get into some discussion
The Post
This is where the bulk of the discussion is, it the start and gives an idea of what to expect; I should include the following;
Background, so explain the experience as well as including the race and units involved.
Example: I was playing a 1v1 Automatch just before and noticed the strangest thing. The match drew me up against Tau, now I was Space Marines so I went for the normal ASM build, I had my first squad out and began harrasing the Tau's SP's and killing his builders. The a squad of fire warriors started attacking my ASM, so I jumped into CC with them. All my ASM died once they hit CC.
The Balance Issue, a detailed account of the experienced balance issue.
Example: Now, I thought the Tau were a weak CC race, but after seeing an ASM squad die in CC with a Firewarrior squad, I just don't know. I don't know if they died in the Air on the way to the FW squad and the animation kept going, but it sure looked like they died in CC.
Solution(s); Give some ideas on how a possible fix could be done.
Example: I think the best way to fix this would be to give either a accuarcy penalty for firewarriors shooting at flying units (if possible) or give units in transit a defensive bonus. Either those or make firewarriors have no CC abilites.
If you can, link people to the replay, this will help others who haven't seen the event understand it.
Evidence
Evidence is the key to a Balance issue, provide either a link to a replay, a screen shot or a detailed account to help back your agruement. Failure to provide any evidence will result in your thread being locked.
"If you're concerned with a unit doing too much damage or having too high hitpoints etc. make sure to check, if possible, how much damage or hitpoints that unit actually has. At the very least go over your replay first. In the heat of the moment you might miss an ability or a long ranged unit in the background or something else that makes you think that a given unit is off the scale but looking at the replay again you might notice that there was a perfectly good explanation to why two scouts seemingly just killed off your Chaos Sorcerer in a heartbeat (for example that assassin sniping off behind the lines)."
Raving, Rant and Flaming
These three are a big no-no. If you want to be taken seriously, you should leave any rants, raves and flames out of your posts.
Staying on Topic
The key to a good discussion is to stay on topic, its okay to drift alittle but if a topic goes from being about Unit X's imbalances to Unit 4's imbalances then the topic is off topic. It is much simpler and safer to create a new topic about unit 4.
Modifications
There is to be no discussion of any Dawn of War Mod Balance issues in Balance issues, almost all mods have their own forums for such a reason, or you can find their thread in the Dawn of War Modifications forum.
If people take mods into advantage they need to provide all the background, not just "Mod Y reduced damage on unit Y" but "Mod Y reduced damage on unit Y while upping their speed" etc.
Suggestions
There is a difference between suggesting a fix for a units imbalance and a suggestion for a race restructure, game dynamic or "What if?" threads, the latter is not needed. Those belong in the Suggestion Box
Here are some typical questions you might ask while here at the balance issue forum.
Q. When should I post in Balance Issues?
A. When you notice something in the game that just seems too damn effective, when you feel confident that it's not a matter of your opponent simply being better than you or you picking the wrong strategy for the job anymore. Balance Issues is not a place for you to let off some steam after a lost game, there are infinately better ways to do that. This is a place for you to try and help the developers to make this game better and more fair for everyone.
Q. How come my thread/post got deleted?
A. You Dis-obeyed or Did not follow the guidelines set out here.
Q. Am I not allowed to criticise anything?
A. Of course you can, thats what this forum is here for. There is just a difference between criticising and flaming/ ranting.
Q. Is there anywhere I can get some numbers on the different units?
A. Yes there is.
Q.I have a great Idea on how to change a unit so it will be entirely different from it's current state but way better
A. Great, Put it in the Suggestion Box.
