Sorry folks, Alex Garden is the former CEO of Relic, nothing to do with Operation Market Garden.
Link to the Relic wiki for those interested.

Never....

I hope this patch fixes a few things.
A) the exploit which has been mentioned here a couple of times REALLY needs to be fixed. I hadnt had a problem with it until last night, then I got raped by it--it was not fun and I cant understand why people resort to using such things in games. If you must cheat/exploit to win and feel better about yourself that is sad.
B)I would really like to see the ability for units/clans or whatever you want to call them play together in a ranked match. It is fun to play "pick up games" with a teammate, but really the only way to show who is best is to do it ranked on a ladder, so I hope they allow clan games.

When is this new patch coming out nVIDIA have brought out their new drivers for this new patch and with SLi enabled it's completly useless as their is screen tearing and poor performance, nVIDIA stated that this is for the new patch from Relic for COH but doesn't work well intill you get this patch which has taken a while already.
I thinks Relic uses the same QA team that Duke Nukem Forever usesIt's been 13 days. Dare I be hopeful and say it'll be out this week?It will be out when its done!
I thought it would only come out at a minimum of 2-3 weeks...
#265
Buggo said ABOUT, not MINIMUM.
By the 23rd, it'll have been 2 weeks. Relic patches usually come out on a Friday for some reason, so the 25. I'd start compalining if the patch wasn't out by the end of the month myself without updates![]()
25th would be kind of neat. My birthday
Honnestly. I can't wait to see how this movie maker presents itself in terms of user-friendliness. I am no programmer but enjoyed creating small fraps movies about the Brothers in Arms serie using the console commands. That gave me sort of a camera control, and I could shoot some nice scenes from different angles. When I first heard and read about COH and the movie maker feature, I was thrilled. I hope it will be somehow understandable for 'older users with no programming background'![]()
Whats all this movie maker business?
Thanks for keeping us informed Buggo.
The patch was stated as being released in 2-3 weeks. Would it be a stretch to request a decent update on the progress? If not at the 2 week mark, certainly 3 weeks, if for any reason it isn't ready then. That is all.
The wise man, knowing the dangers lurking in shadows and the warp, is always vigilant, and wary.
you want it quick or you want it to work?
Is it impossible to have both? And assuming you're addressing me, I never said anything about hurrying, I said I needed an update, as in, I need to know what specifics I'm waiting for, especially if it's takes longer than promised.

An update would be nice. The trouble is, if they post a changelog and anything on there doesn't make it into the final patch, then they'll attract a lot of flak from the community, even if there's a good reason for it.
Worse still (at least from my perspective), experience leads me to suspect that if a changelog or some similar kind of update were posted, people would then draw unwarranted conclusions and start ranting about perceived failures to rectify problems (or the apparent introductions of new ones), days or weeks before they'd played even a single game with the patch.
Balance discussions, to take an important example, are all well and good. But when they're based on partial or limited data, they become increasingly speculative--and increasingly heated, as the debate becomes more and more based on personal opinions or whatever axe certain people may have to grind.
Well as long as we see some balance fixes im sure i'll be happy. I'm sure everyone has at least one unit they would like balanced. So that being said, w00t for patch!
Even an "everything seems on track" would be cool, but then wouldn't we rather have the team finish the stuff first before Buggo buggs them (adorably and harmlessly)?
Are the newest Nvidia drivers on the site?
I'd just like to know if there's going to be major balance changes or not. Fixing connection issues, bugs/exploits, and getting the tools out are the highest priority right now. However, none of that really matters if every game continues to be riflespam vs. stugspam.
You people are FARRRRRRR too impatient. I've worked for a QA before, and THOROUGH checks are made while playing through the game, its not a case of "look here and find the bug", they will more than likely go through the WHOLE game to try and find/(intentionally) replicate that same bug in another place within the game so that they don't/won't have to look for that bug ever again. In the case of Company of Heroes, I would assume that they would have to play multiple skirmishes on EACH map. Seeing that theres 15 maps, and games can last between 20 minutes and 2-3 hours (if you're a dedicated annihilation turtler), and they need to do the same map probably between 3 and 5 times, it could realistically take (if we take 1 hour as an average of game lengths AND remember that they may have to take a look at the campaign mode as well) anywhere from 20-70 hours+ NON-STOP, which is probably between 2 days and a week, possibly more, of thorough testing. If they find a bug, the game has to be sent back to programming, fixed, sent back, and you could be looking at another 2 days to a week of more testing.
If you REALLY want the bugs and stuff to be fixed AND arrive sooner than later, stop moaning and let them do their job. I wouldn't be surprised if Relic don't look at this thread because its just more pressure on getting the patch out on time, plus if you keep bringing up new problems, they will get sidetracked on finding the more important things. The main thing right now is that they get the network coding right, once they done that and released it and its fixed, they can INSTANTLY start on the next patch where they can look at more minor fixes.
They said 2-3 weeks for this patch, and in my opinion thats VERY optimistic. It would probably take upto and exceeding a month to get things right, thats why patches are built seperately, so that they can slowly work their way up to a "perfect" game (perfect being used loosely as there isn't a perfect game out there).
To recap this post, LET THEM DO THEIR JOB. The less people they have moaning at them, the quicker and more efficiently they can work on the fixes.
I said I needed an update, as in, I need to know what specifics I'm waiting for, especially if it's takes longer than promised
Just be glad that they even notified us about the patch beforehand...most companies don't announce patches whatsoever. And I don't believe any dates were promised, they were estimated.
I can't think of any companies that do say that theres an upcoming patch, so cookies for Relic, plus as you said, they estimate the date rather than set a date. Lets just hope they are competent in their first Company of Heroes patch.
Valve does.. Just to name one company that has very good ongoing development and support after release of a game.. A major reason of their succes..Originally Posted by N-TWO-O

True, but so what? Does that mean that if the fix takes longer than the estimate, that they don't have to say anything? I certainly wouldn't be fine with that. I already expected that it may go over the time specified, I knew it was a gauge, but if and when it does, I expect to hear what the status of things are, with an adjusted projection of completion. I know it would be a bad idea, I said so in an earlier post. Contrary to what it sounds like in my post above, what I really would like to see, is an overview of what we're waiting for, and especially if it goes late, why it's taking so long. I said "at the two week mark" as a prophylactic measure. If people have fairly decent updates, then whine, rant or no, they cannot accuse Relic of not communicating (which reads as not caring).
@ N-Two-O:
Thanks for the insight into QA, I may yet find that information useful. 'Moaning' is motivation to someone who may otherwise think, "Hey, there's no rush! The customers understand how difficult this is, I don't have to be diligent about it, noone's really complaining. See! the forum's all quiet, noone's 'moaning', I can take another two months with this, no problem."
Now, while I am not accusing Relic of this, I suggest that your attitude would be more conducive to encouraging someone to behave that way, while mine would discourage it. I don't appreciate you passive types in situations like this, Relic doesn't need motivation right now, they have a Blockbuster to save, they already know they have to do it. My 'complaints' are geared toward 'helping them' do just that, but in a reasonable time to avoid further damage. Your cajoling and 'cooing' them, could give them a false sense of security.
If you read my posts, you see my perspective. I haven't been overly pressing or outrageous in my requests (note I didn't say demands), so don't suggest I've done anything worse, more than (or in relation to you, less than what should have) infact done.
It's naiive to think that the persons responsible for sorting this patch out, are busy reading every post ('negative' and 'positive') at the expense of working on it. If you want to be encouraging, go ahead, it's actually useful, but be more aggressive with it, instead of telling me not to be - for want of a better term, a hardass, which is just as useful.

I assume Buggo's prior "QA is still ongoing" statement basically means that it's on track. She can prove me wrong if she wants to though(not likely).Even an "everything seems on track" would be cool, but then wouldn't we rather have the team finish the stuff first before Buggo buggs them (adorably and harmlessly)?
I've bought dozens of games in the past couple years, and I have yet to see any company announce a patch and an estimated date 2-3 weeks in advance, besides Relic. I would hardly consider it a mediocre standard.I don't know what standards you're used to, but 'just being glad they notified me when others wouldn't,' is not "doing me a favor", it is good business manners. That's assuming that it goes over. the patch was estimated to be out between today and the 31st. So as far as we know, it's still on schedule.True, but so what? Does that mean that if the fix takes longer than the estimate, that they don't have to say anything? I certainly wouldn't be fine with that. I just don't understand how you are critical of a company that is providing better service than most others out there. Either way, it's not important and its best if we just drop the conversation.

What's going on here?
We did say 2-3 weeks. It's still on schedule. Seems to be on track. I'll post the changelog as soon as I can.
I've posted in this thread every couple days... if you take the time to read through you can see I've been giving little updates. We have tried not to just disappear
I know sometimes it can seem like ages. But it has really only been 2 weeks since I announced it.![]()
She's right. A simple check of the date of the first post and the date of buggo's most recent post (above) confirms it. It'll be two weeks as of Oct 24.
Yes Buggo tell us if the Russians or the Common Wealth will be in the expansion.![]()
That was my original request that began this current loop. Please note, I made a polite / reasonable request for info, and left the door open for said request to be denied until or if the time came up. Would you say that's fair at that point? OK then, good.Originally Posted by Juiceman_2000
If you understand my post, I wasn't criticising Relic, I was criticising your comments, AND, your point that I be 'content' with the patch announcement. I went on to explain why I didn't think it was a good idea, I had to use Relic as the example. If you read carefully you'd understand I wasn't suggesting Relic was mediocre, I was saying I won't judge them by those standards. Check it again, please, you'll see it's all there.Originally Posted by DarkKnight

Dear, sweet, Bugs, you did say 2-3 weeks, I know, I'm just having a little discourse with DarkKnight here, nothing to worry your little head about. Thanks for the heads-up on progress, though I wasn't really worried, at least not for another week or so. And, yes, it does sometimes seem like ages, you know how excited we get about our games. Don't worry, nothing's wrong really, DarkKnight misunderstood a few things, and I had to paint a rather complex picture to get him to understand, which might not be working sadly.Originally Posted by Buggo

Buggo posted the 2-3 weeks announcement...
Any update yet??
Hey guys first post here
wanted to say thanks to relic for the information regarding the upcoming patch (not looking for brownie points) unlike other companies which dont state what the deal is or fail to meet the statements they release its good to see that relic arent making big headed statements about their upcoming release and getting the community hyped up with something that may or may not be put into the final release.
i wanted to add also a thought and maybe its crossed other players minds, it may have been posted here already but how about a button in the infantry interface that allows for a full retreat, in other words when you want to retreat your men to the main hq then you press full retreat, whereas if you want them to retreat to the nearest forward HQ then we can just use the retreat button, i know people might say well thats just too easy now that people can pull back heal up and reinforce but it adds for the defenders to push harder than draw out the battles and also adds more reason to take out those forward hqs other than just capping the points they sit on, just a thought.
thanks guys.
While you guys are at it, how about cracking open the Homeworld: Cataclysm code and fixing the beast? You guys screwed em with the last patch!
:P.
@ juiceman1_2000:
Theres moaning, then theres EXCESSIVE moaning. Would you rather have Relic rush the patch and have the game have more bug errors, or would you like them to concentrate on specific errors and get it right?!
I'm not encouraging them to be laid back at all, get your facts right. I'm saying give them some space, they've given a time frame, let them work to it. If they don't meet it, then you can pick up the moanfest if you really must. I'd love to see Relic screw this up by rushing it and see how you reply to the patch, but I want this patch as badly as any of you. I am UNABLE to join 90%+ of online games because of the major bug, but Company of Heroes isn't the only game I play, I've got other games that can pass the time, or I could just go out.

xDoctorx: If you go back one page you'll see Buggo's latest post.
juiceman: There is no level of disclosure that is good for relic, only one that is the least bad. No announcements earns them flak for not communicating. Lots of announcements (early changelog, etc) means people speculate themselves into a bloodlust. What we have now, which is a litte update every few days, seems to be earning them the minimum possible trouble. No one is making incorrect assumptions about what will be in the patch, or if they are, they can't tie them to relic, and since Buggo is keeping us reasonably informed, this thread is kept at a low ebb of anger despite the massive buzz of impatience.
@ Starfisher
As I said to your fellow 'fish' and admin, Ionfish, (U guys in a fish clan?) giving out details would be a bad idea, been agreeing with you since page #16, post 240. In this case, less is more, maybe even less would be better, like once per week.
@N-TWO-O
The fundamental problem of writing one's opinions, is that it is immediately open to misinterpretation unless one uses the strictest language, and most lucid of ideas. The problem with strict language is, there's then the possibility of leaving the reader not understanding you at all. The relevant lucid ideas aren't always easy to create.
So one has two choices, be very strict, and maybe leave the reader blind, or be accessible, and play catch up - as the reader misunderstands, you correct the misunderstanding.
This forum is a little microcosm. So many different people, styles and attitudes. Everything can be seen here if you look closely enough, you guys are good teachers for the apt student. One of the reasons I post on here is for exercise. The topic of discussion is important, but in the long run, how it's supported is more so.
I am sorry I cannot be more clear, whether it's mine or your fault, if you still don't understand me, just forget it.
The patch will be here when the patch will be here.
It is NOT impossible to enjoy this game as it is. In fact, it is quite easy.
I dont care about the patch, in fact I enjoy it without it, what im waiting for is the map editor
No, but I'm having a damn hard time playing multiOriginally Posted by Dronten.
