I hope this isn't too off-forum, but here goes:
What programs do people like IGN and Gamespot use in order to capture "video screenshots" of games, such as Homeworld2. The only programs I have seen that do this do not work very well.

You require a video card which has capturing ability. I believe ATI's AIW cards and nVidia's CineFX have this. Or, goto a local store and find a cheap TV tuner card, it might have it.
Whatever it is, the resolution ain't that good
There are numerous options. A TV out is a good way with no performance hit. Something like camtasia can do it reasonably in real time if there's extra performance and disc time laying around though fps will be low. You can also do some sort of a rapid screenshot taking script and then compile it with something like adobe premier.

Actually, the way those videos were captured in IGNs and Gamespot's movies was using a camera pointed at the screen. On some higher end cameras, you can tune in the scan rate to a computer monitor in order to stop the lines scrolling down the screen.
For game movie releases, I assume they are using some kind of custom image export/compiler as GIMPbewoulf mentioned. In RTCW for instance, I can export my recordings as individual image frames using custom frame rates, and then I can compile them into a movie clip and edit them.

The trailer will be using direct screen dumps, so it should be avaliable in a lot of formats and very good quality.
We should try and get relic to keep this feature in![]()
reki - ouch. I can think of several deacent screen-capture programs with work with openGL and directX...
