Deadlocked Vs. the computer for 7 hours HELP!

    So...

Im playing Tau on about turn 3(?) of the DC campagin.

I try to take the spaceport from SM.

We both end up with the exact same number of captured servetors.

So , its a match to destroy the enemy HQs. He has at least 2 HQs (i think 3 total) spread out all over the map. I've seen , i swear at least 2 players worth of units on the screen at the same time from him, no clue where all this crap is comming from. Two commaders? wtf. Ok so anyhow its the damn AI right, its got to DIE.

Im pinned down in the bottom left corner where i started at , virtually unlimited resources but i cant get out!

I've got a full row of Broadsides, 2 drone ships and 3 er.. the ships that can do the missle burst.

The only upgrade the commader has is Missle Launcher.

Basicly i can "funnel" these MASSIVE number of SM by putting the drones out like crumbs but if i push out of this corner to were there is more than 1 choke point i get swarmed and have to back all the way up or get owned.

I've tried using Kroot of various types but really they just cannot survive the endless tide of SM damage. The only way seems to be to use virtually all ranged attackers.

I dont quite have "unlimited" resources , as i tried spamming out the ships not caring if they die or not but after about 10 minutes of that the resources start dwindling and its obvious i cant push all the way across the map that way.

The tide of drones has to stay on constantly or im dead. Only way to live is to get him to waste his ammo on drones and cloned broadsides (from the etherial caste guy)

Any ideas? I really would like to beat this damn AI at this point rather than just start over. Sort of a point of irritation with me now that i've wasted so many hours on ONE match lol.

Im not particularly good with what to do vs SM (or any of the races really) any general tips.. as well as tips specific to this map would be appreciated.

You really need to rush out there at the start and start finding the servitors. I got 5 of them at Tier 2 and got the 6th one just about when Tier 3 finished. You can't let them build up because they have 2 bases. That pretty much goes for all 2-base assaults and defences, map control is important.

Jump in Stealth Teams and your commander at one of his HQs, make his captured servitors route to your HQ, follow them, re-capturing them if they encounter an enemy unit on the way. That's all you need, really.

sounds pretty intense, but just make sure yoru resoruces are all maxed and just keep grinding all you can do, make more barracks to pump out and replace the unit faster, then start draggin gthe rally points along with you so your continually reinforced,

what foot troops have you got? i usually dont bother with broadsides i find them a waste, i usually have couple of path finder teams and get a mass of honour warriors massed from your etherial they do awesome against every thing, also what tech did you go? can you use krootox or the hammer head?

2 hammer heads can usually spear head any ai assault if not a mass of krootox are by far the best for crushing mobs. whilest your fire warriors support.

Use mass krootox, a great knarloc if you have the relic. Screw the skyrays, they cant compare to a krootox for attacking, and your broadsides will handle any attack the SMs can throw at you.

You've basically screwed yourself by letting the AI get to the point where they just overwatch units at your base. This is why you need to rush with your honour guard. They have twice as many cap as you, in a battle of attrition they will win.

What I really find weird is that whenever I play, the northeast base starts hunting for Servitors before the southwest one.

What I did was tech up to T2 quickly, then rushed the northeast base while having my Stealthsuits scours the map for any uncaught Servs. Usually the north east base is the one that holds the Servitors (since I never see any at southwest. At all!)

If it gets dragged into T3, get the Ethereal and spam FW Bodyguards. Those are pretty crazy, and Pathfinder spotting with their range is nice to wittle SMs down from afar. Just make sure you have enough squad cap to support the bodyguards (2 squad cap per bodyguard squad)

Easy way take your commander and 1 FW to the lower right SM base blow it up on the way you can pick up 3 servetors blow the base up.

Send a stealth team up right away get that servetor that is 4 with in 40 seconds.

Next take your Hero and the FW north then go right will find another servetor thats 5.

Take the stealth team up north a bit more but befor you come to the relic to right a little steal the servetor form the SM base.

Bring your Hero and FW left to the SM base blow it up.

Mission done all 6 n your base with in 5 mins.

It'll probably quicker for you to restart. You can win this map in less than 10 minutes.

You really don't have to blow any command centers up. Just use something to tie up his army, Greater Gnarloc works wonders. Then just move some warriors, stealth suits up to the servitors around his base. The servitors will leave and head to your base. If his army is tied up fighters yours, they wander back and you will win. Matter of fact, I generally don't collect them all. I get a few and wait for the AI to collect a few then wander into one of his bases and steal his. Crisis suits work wonderfully because the can bounce in and won't kite any fighters around.

Just remember that you will need to divert his forces or when the servitor leaves, it will turn around and head back when it encounters his forces.

Ok, since you went Kauyon, here is my advice:

You can build up to two Harbinger Drone Carriers. Do so.

Build the Knarloc and as many Krootox as you can after that. They will be your damage sponges.

Get rid of all your regular gun drones, you want to use your whole cap for the Harbingers, Gnarloc, and Krootoxen.

Build one or two squads of Pathfinders for spotting and markerlights, and then have the Ethereal fill the rest of your cap with Fire Warrior bodyguards.

Now rush. Throw the Gnarloc and Krootoxen in first, have the Ethereal hologram the Knarloc. While the enemy is working on taking out your massive hit point damage sponges, shower them with fire from the Fire Warriors. Put both Drone Carriers on overwatch with their rally points out ahead of the Fire Warriors.

This is basically the strongest offense you're going to be able to field in this situation. It should work.

Well i snuck one more servtor into the base... lol took forever with all the hordes of SM all over the place, lots of jump packing and goofing around with drones.

Now... ok the single player needs some serious tuning.

Spaceport + Fury is so broken its not even funny lol

Also the AI cannot deal with a rush to his HQ, the standard victory condition should be annilate not HQ destroy. Game is a joke once you find a few of these key (glaring) problems.

I think the only reason this sort of stuff doesnt get people leaving the game in droves is that people prefer human opponents and so its not such a huge deal for many.

I've sid meyer made a game this flawed... well it just would still be in beta.

Wait until you get Spaceport + Fury + Forward Base

The special map abilities are supposed to be imba. They represent major strategic advantages, so if you have two or three of them and your opponent doesn't you're probably going to win unless you're asleep at the wheel.

That's why they all have special objectives.

The only possible flaw is that the Fury mission is too easy. If you're not killing more troops than you're losing against an AI (An IG AI at that) then you're doing something really wrong lol.

That said, did you try my suggested force composition?

hmmm guess I should acquiring some of those cool map points. i haven't gotten anything like that except for like bulwark and upping my pop. cap, and I'm dominating with Tau.

Bulwark is probably the least useful of the special map abilities...

Spaceport and Fury are tied for first, then forward base, then Increased Manpower, then Industrial Production, and finally Bulwark.

Forward Base is amazing, being able to start at tier two is a huge advantage. Increased Manpower... Well, pop cap increases... Don't have to say much about that. And Industrial Production gives you an extra 1000 requisition at the start of a battle, which is obviously quite useful as well.

Yeah i rushed the hq alot in the end, but mostly cause i wanted to see all the cut scenes. I usually let the ai build up abit in skirmish games, gets more interesting, did that in wa too. The thing is that against people in auto, all the did was rush, thats why i tend to never 1v1 auto, do 3v3 if i go against random people.

Heh, I played fury against necrons as IG...that was kinda tough, as I didn't realize what my objective was until we were both at around 60 deaths, so I hadn't turtled up, and spent half the time treating guardsmen as expendable, until I realized they weren't... But I eeked it through with my assassins anyway.

What bugs me about the difficulty of the campaign mode is that playing it on hard doesn't seem to make the AI any smarter, they just get to cheat. So when I attack, I'm playing vs 2-3 AIs, but when I defend, I'm still playing vs 2-3 AIs - and they usually start with a t2-3 base...also they can have a huge bodyguard despite not controlling any territories. Thats all fine and dandy, but they still do stupid things, like sit in their bases while I kill them with basilisks...

So even in those missions where the odds are really stacked against me, I find myself facing a difficult early rush, which I have to resort to cheap tricks to beat, followed by mild continuous pressure, which I can defeat by setting up a defensive chokepoint somewhere, and then send a smaller force to march into their base and take it out, while no one's looking for a relatively easy victory.
