    New Smite vs. Ig

I just barely played a game as IG against an SM player who was clearly tech rushing and couldn't defend against my four thirteen member squads with grenade launcher "rush" with nothing but infiltrated plasma scouts. Everything was going well until the librarian popped out and one smite killed about thirty guardsmen. Oops.

Now that smite is incredibly powerful, what can the IG do as a defense? It's late and I forgot to save the replay, but any advice would still be appreciated.

Only thing you do is spread your troops out and go defensive until you can get vehicles.

Similar thing happens with harliquin kiss ability, gm are so weak they just get shreded by the area of effect abilitys. theres not anything you can do about it but spread out and take possibly losseing an entire squad to the abilitys.

You think that's bad? Last night I had 5 squads of tac marines fully upgraded with bolters and missle launchers decimated in a few seconds by 3 basilisks. Ouch! :yech:

Well, at least he paid a *chunk* for that... I can't see just regular fire doing that

    Not a realistic situation.

If you have 3-4 GM squads, the only way you can get them to effectively focus fire is by packing them into a tight formation.

Yeah, I know. But if you spread your units out, at least you might be able to stall long enough to get chimeras out.

Wouldn't you be getting vehicles out at about the same time (possibly earlier) than the Librarian comes out anyway?

It's not like SM can get him the second they reach T2...

IG are usually too busy with their power requirements to get vehicles out if they're on the back foot
with the vehicle bay costing more and the global req upgrades more promising and useful
that leaves very little green for vehicle spamming

There is already a thread in balance issues provided it has not yet been locked.

In an effort to differentiate this thread from that thread, relevent tactical advice to avoid or mitigate the damage from the 240 blast is required.

People posting 'just get hp upgrades' will be executed.

Should this not occur and just turns into the negative and unbelief comments the balance issues thread demonstrated this too will be locked and an unhappy moderator would appear, you wouldent like an unhappy moderator.

Okay, hmmm, what about a Chimera behind the line, so you can pop in 3 squads when Lib is moving into range.

It'd be better to keep chimeras in the front of the line to soak up damage. When librarian is in range, you can still pop your squads in.

Just curios, nwhat is smite damage to commanders?

I.e can he one shot a ful command squad to red health aswell? That imo would be worse than losing the guardsmen.

The only chance here is to tie up the librarian with your CS. I had one match vs eldar that I completely dominated and at the last second a harlequin popped out, did her move, and killed three of my squads, leaving the commissars standing there wondering what the hell killed THEIR ENTIRE PLATOON OF MEN.

one well placed psyker soul strip should kill a harlequin, granted they are bloody hard to target, but i you manage it, the psyker has payed for himself. And seeing as they are the best detectors in teir 1.5, you should always have one.

Strip soul will not kill a harlequin, it only brings her down to 1/3 hp.

Guardsman with priest and hp upgrades survive a smite, get ur execute-commi in a grenade squad, as it will stand behind the plasmasquads with priests.

Wouldn't the problem be, that even if they are not killed, so would their morale be down to a minimum and they would be killed by any next action taken against them.
I tend to get librarian in most games against IG as he is really useful against their guardsmen, forcing them to rely alot more on vehicles, which is alot easier to deal with than being up against both infantry and sentinels/basilisks etc.

if you get smoted (past tense of smite)
you'd probably run instead of fight
by now, they'ed be really low hp
and light bolter fire will simply mow them down
    don't bother with execute
as you want your guardsmen to get out of there
    as fast as possible

Well if you got smoted (I like this word^^) just try to run and cover your retreat by Basilisk fire. But the most important part is, pray to the emperor, you surely gonna need his godly help now

btw.: anyone knowes how many strip souls a single Librarian can take before getting killed?

    It's not "smote"? :P

    Smite does not damage commanders.

  23. #23
you can CC the librarian with your commissars detached or 1 GM with commie atatched while your other GM shoot at him with plasma. NO GRENADE LAUNCHERS as they will damage your own men.

BY thw way I dont get how librarian gets the chance to do smite on you, with you shooting at it with 3 squads of grenade launchers. He should be knocked down before he can do it.

Really I would just say focus fire on the lib. Try to keep him knocked down then get him dead really fast. That's the only way to 'avoid' the smite. That little bastard pays for himself so many times over (in resources and time) when he gets even one whole squad dead, much less two or three.

Quite simple, either you hold off the Librarian and get killed by LS, SM, .... or you hold off the other units and get smote(d).

HINT : The country im in is about the size of a dot on the world map
In the last FPL 2v2 we did, meth had about 3 squads of GLs engaging our forces.

One librarian later only about 5 men were left.

    This is obviously broken.
