That is a very ambitious project, good luck!
I've been wanting an un-destroyed urban map, but have been unable to even get one started myself. I'm looking forward to this!
Bookmarked.
looks fine
Looks awesome. I hope it plays as good as it looks.
holy crap! that is awsom
Killer job. I suck at cityscapes lol.
wow nice job! a huge map and a great city layout. are you going to fill in the rest of the open space on the north side with more buildings?
Definately.. MIP, map in progress.
Just about finished with the entire city, maybe a few more buildings after play test for mobility n what not. My tiling is also about done, then to do all the victory points n stuff. Here are some more pics to drool over while I finish this.
And the graveyard.. oops, open graves... must be especting a few people..

Wow, this map looks great...can't wait to play it!
definately going to rape a low spec pc, but more fool them for having a slow pc.
Cant wait for this map to get posted, I'm really looking forward to it.
Looks like a red alert 2 map, full of buildings and detail. Good Job. Hopefully my PC can handle it.
I Eat CoH for Breakfast :p
Hope this map works great as great as it looks. It award winner I say.
I can just see battles in graveyard , hidding behind the stones lol. am dieing to playing oh sorry joke there lol.
Like the water also good city mate .
If any axis player uses the Firestorm ability will it suck up all the oxygen and kill all the infantry?
Got. To. Carpet. Bomb.
Wow it looks Awsome.
Please let us Know when you finish It (Pm)![]()
Update.
Map is alpha playable at the moment though I keep crashing about 7-8 minutes into the map. With 7 AIs at 1280x1024 with high details the game plays pretty smooth, but I haven't be able to get the game to play long enough to see if it can handle tons of units on the screen while all is happening.
I haven't found a good reason for the crash in the logs yet so I am experimenting to see when exactly the crash occurs and go from that angle. If anything, Relic may be able to tell me with all the bug reports I keep sending, lol.
I would like to see the optimisation results from this one. Looks like it would go over on quite a few areas. But definately a great looking map.![]()
Wow! that looks sick! looks like its just my play style too, with cokepoints
Damnit coooool!!!! This map ROCKS Like HELL!!!
Nice Job, I love townbattles!!! (especially undestroyed ones, because I love it to destroy them myself, muhahaha)
Need some help with this map if someone is willing to offer it.
No matter what I have done, the game crashes when playing this map after about 7-10 minutes. I've tried to see if it was repeatable, but the only thing that seems to be consistant is the amount of time. Playing 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 had no change what so ever.
I've cut out a fair bit of what I've done to see if that would help, but it didn't. I'm thinking I missing something or one of the 'broken' buttons wasn't broken and set something up I can't see.
Would love to find what is the cause so I can finish this map.
Map look awesome! Good luck with the crash issues.
Your map is very dense, so it might benefit from some optimization (see the wiki). If you're crashing at 6-7 minutes you might be hitting a wall with your frame rates as the conflict really starts heating up. For a start, try reducing the number of players to 2 and see if it still crashes then.
Post a beta and I'll load it up and see if I have the same problem.
Here is a link to a rar of the map. I've tried different AI amounts without help. The map looks dense, but I see more splats n tree on the other 4v4 maps than I used.
Dresden
Yep, crashed for me at almost 7 minutes on the dot.
I had a look around the map and it's generally pretty good, although you are getting render calls over 350 in some of the housing areas. The wiki recommends <175 for 8 player, <300 for 2 player so that's getting pretty high.
That map looks stunning! Great work so far, if you need a tester let me know.
Just dropped it to a 4 player map, still crashed at 7 minutes.
Hmmm... wondering if there's a mega-weapon or something coming online at that time that's causing the problems. I'll have another think and let you know if I come up with anything.
Wowa now thats a city knowing from experience cities take along farkin time.
Please, play test the hell out of it. Got to find that crash issue so I can fix it.
What res and aspect ratio were you looking at the map for renders over 350? I pick play mode and then zoom out 1 tick and use that as my reference. My bad areas I find are not in the housing areas, but rather near the rail tracks and industrial sector. I've done a lot of changes here switching from a rail object to rail splats, no raised deformation for the rail, cut out all my nice edging splats as well, but still my worst area since its right on the water as well.
I was also trying to see if it the crash was triggered by say. a building changing to a new damaged state, or something like that, but I haven't found a connection yet. There has got to be one. People are making maps which don't crash, something is out of place.
Have you tried 1v1, both players, without doing anything and just waiting (no building, no moving units, nothing) to see if it still crashes at 7 minutes?
Could it be an AI jam of some sort, I would like to try this online with someone and see if the AI is just freaking out.
I just tried 1v1 against the computer a few times and the crash still occurs, though I was able to play a bit longer, got a good 13 minutes on it. I had a few firefights before hand then during one of them, it crashed. Nothing intense. A motorcycle was shooting at my engineer squad which were flaming in return. Had 2 rifle squads just take out an enemy OP about 10 seconds before. I was just watching the motorcycle and my engineers, had the unit window for the Tank depot open waiting to pick a sherman.
I don't think its unit numbers. I put the comp on easy to keep it small and I boxed the ai in. I had 2 MGs, 1 jeep, 3 rifle squads 4 engineer squads at the moment of crash. I had only engaged 3 sets of pioneers and I had most of the territories, so the ais unit count had to be low. When I do 4v4, there will be 12 engineer units easily out as well as a few rifle squads and 2-3 jeeps and that will be each side when it crashes.
this is from the zipped error report sent to relic. Looks like its trying to access protected memory or something. You all get the same one? the file name it will be in this format. mm-dd-yyyy_hr_mn_sec_ErrorLog.txtCode:RelicCOH.exe caused an Access Violation in module RelicCOH.exe at 001b:005a9404. Perhaps reduce the variety of objects on the map? This ran my 1.5 Gb of RAM to 99%, perhaps CoH just can't handle it if there isn't enough room.
Have been. Reduced the map in size as well, chopped it down to 3v3 and took the boundaries down about 180 meters on each side and still crashes.
I've tried to stamp just the necessary parts and hopefully leave behind whatever it is that is causing the problem without avail. Keep removing parts and finding more optimal ways to do certain areas n what not but it just doesn't seem to be taking. I don't understand. WHen I look at other maps, some look even more busy than mine is. I'll keep skimming this down until I get it too work. Its fun for the little bit of time I can play on it.
You're saying you used almost all ur RAM for this? How can I see that for myself as well? ANy way I can watch memory over time and see if it does peak out when it crashes?
I have a G15 keyboard with the performace monitor running, it gives me a taskmanager-like CPU and RAM usage percentage. If you want, you can use the taskmanager to keep a graph of the history of how much memory it uses. Just make sure you set the update speed to slow and deselect "always on top" so that it doesn't interfere with the game.
P.S. CoH only uses about 80% normally and the Windows taskmanager gives a percentage use of both RAM and Pagefile on the same graph.

Very well done! Looks outstanding! But............
the "instances" on that map has to blow Relics recommended specs out of the water.
Can see his PC smoking just looking at them pics. :P
Check here: http://wiki.relicrank.com/index.php?...ry_Usage_Check
I can never get this to work whatsoever, every time i click on it...It does nothing.
Quite annoying but after all, the WB is still in beta.
I know your problem too many objects on map. I made several maps with alot of objects then when I started deleting objects the map ran fine. It would crash several minutes into the map. Backward delete until map works it looks great and you dont want to give up whole map.
Edit how is the map coming cant wait

can u tell me pls when the map is ready to download ??? i really like this map
Ya, if you look at all the maps made by relic there are actually very few buildings being used. Most are blown up buildings (building pieces), not actually buildings. The buildings appear to be rather intensive. My sugestion, instead of taking away half the city, is to make the city after a good carpet bombing. Should solve the problem with it running, although it is definetly not half as cool as having it work as is.![]()
amazing map. I played it as skirmish and it did'nt seem to crash. I dont know how long i left it running. Looks amazing though. Id suggest removing unneeded buildings such as the ones which surround the outside of the map. I think its fine just to have fields around the bases. Also remove the flames from the destroyed vehicles. Particle physics are a big cpu hog.
As terrible as it sounds, I might suggest deleting almost ALL buildings on the map, and saving that to a different version. Then playtest...if it works, add more...rinse and repeat.
It's gonna be a hell of a time consumer, but at the same time having so many objects as you do on the map, it's gonna be damn hard to find the needle in the haystack.
I have been working on an urban map as well. It is no where near as large as this one, but it is crashing a couple of minutes into the game. It worked one time and that was it.
It's prolly just the sheer amount of destructibles...As much as I'd love to see a huge sprawling city to lay waste to, at the same time I realize that the engine has it's limitations. So even if the game runs well, you still may be overloading it.
My PC isn't the greatest, and when I first got CoH I had similar problems...I was trying to run it on some more medium like settings, and though it'd run alright, it'd crash anywhere from 5-30 minutes into it. In particular if I did anything which revealed alot of terrain (like Air Recon) or did anything with lots of special effects (Calliope or Nebelwerfer) and I was watching either event on screen atm then it'd crash....I'd generally get an error from my graphics card...essentially I was overloading the poor thing. My suspicion is that this is exactly what is happening with this map. You may consider trying it on the absolute lowest settings and see if it crashes or not. That should help determine some causes.
Yes, the solution to all this crashing may be a better PC. However, if anyone here has an uber computer and it still crashes, then this is a problem with the game that Relic must fix.
I was able to play the game for a while just in skirmish mode me and 1 AI. I came out and two of us went in and made it a 2 vs 2 map in multiplayer and it crashed about 8 minutes in. No warning...nothing.
I'll try it again in a bit back in skirmish mode.
I have a AMD 4600+ Athlon 64 X2, and 2 GB RAM, NIVIDIA 7900GT GeForce...
Ill test it when i get home, but prob. gonna crash same as everybody else.
Running CoH on full graphics (with anti-aliasing on full)
Try cranking everything down though Fiffa. This would help determine whether it's a hardware issue, or an engine issue.
Well I just finished a map that is having the same issue. I really don't want to delete anything, but if this thread issue's result is that its too many items or too many splines or whatever... then I guess I will have to.
The map I just made is 1024x1024 4v4 detailed 4v4 map.![]()
