Gutted, Pls say Multi Beam Frig's r in...

Loved the Multi Beam Frigate in Cataclysm, HW2 wouldn't suffer 2 have a ship like that in it's line up...

Everyone wanted 2 capture the MBf that the kadeshi had in HW, The kith learned their lesson an' made the addition...

Surely they wouldn't leave home without it in HW2???

    thoughts, comments, appreciated....

I have not seen "Multi Beam" frigates like the Kadeshi, or anti fighter Multibeam Frigates like the somtaaw in HW2. There are the Pulsar corvettes though, which seem pretty cool.

Since the original mbfs were incredibly bad shots, it makes since that nothing like them would exist in the future, plus in a hunred years they may have something better

Multis are anti-capship are they not? Torpedoes might fill that void...

The Kadeshi Mulit-beams where very anti-cap. they had a hard time hitting other frigets and did an exilent job of hitting each other. However The Somtaaw MBFs from cataclysm were anti-fighter and didn't do much damage to caps.

Kadeshi mbf's couldn't do jack...the only mananged to hit eachother and they even had a hard time hitting Heavy Cruisers...
taww mbs are okay against fighters but they can stilll be easily swarmed

I have no problem with them being in HW2, I just hope they don't look as uninspired as they did in Cataclysm.

On the other appendage, I agree completely with Tangent's assessment.

They were good fun but they didn't seam to fit into the tech of the game aswell. As it had 4 ion cannons in a small space

Remember the design of most of the ships in hw were done out of logical placement of weaponry, A multibeam frigate would be pointless in this, it would be worthless as an anti-cap ship considering all of it's weaponry couldn't target a single source (or even multiple unless it surrounded it). So it's only use would be anti-fighter/corvette, which is what the assault frigate's job is. I am of course comparing to the cata multibeam and not the kadesh multibeam. The kadesh multibeam was also pointless as it's probably 5 times easier to have one big ion cannon trained on one target then have a bunch of smaller ones... also trained on one target

I am actualy quite glad that u dont get the MBF from HW in HW2 as as a unit i think it wasn't that good.

Tell that to my multi-beam team that took out the emperors mothership before the third assault.

But really, i agree that the effort should be put into other ships, and I definatley hated the Somtaaw Multi, it made Ion Cannons seem.. weak.

The 'taww MBF was a "Jack of all trades" ship. The Kedeshi one was focused. HW1 had ships that were focused on one thing (Vaygr) and the 'taww had do-it-all ships (HW2 Hiigaran)

I'm pretty glad it's out of the game so far

with a primarily fighter-based opponent it would be unbalanced or highly ineffective, there would hardly be a middle road

besides it would be pretty uninspired since 5 or 10 of those friggies could be able to mince any fighter-based attack

I my self loved the mfb, it was a tackof all trades type ship, it could take out anything.

The Kadeshi one was awesome, complete chaos but bloody good fun trying to scythe through fighter swarms or carve gouges out of motherships/carriers.

Could you obtain them in HW1 multiplayer at all? I imagine getting half a dozen of those on offence would intimidate most any player even if they weren't that effective.

There was a map circulating around that let the host play as the Kadeshi (although i don't think you could build their ships). You started off with like 16 multibeam frigs, some fuel pods, and a bunch of swarmers, but the regular players started off with 20 MGCv's. It was balanced because MBF's are pretty slow and they couldn't hyperspace. Anyone remeber the name of it?
