You'll need to replace the WW2Art.sga file (with the copy that you backed up), otherwise the patch'll notice a inconsistency in what the file is and what it should be, and it won't be able to finish patching (resulting in you having to do a complete clean re-install).

After you've patched, all you got to do is re-run SkinInstaller to re-install your skins over the new WW2Art.sga file.

For those of us who were too stupid and lazy to back-up WW2Art.sga, can anyone upload theirs (from v2.301) so we can replace ours and apply the next patch without reinstalling?

    Hi all

I am having trouble here. I believe i used the tool properly, but when i run the game, there is no change. I tried opening up corsix's to check, and everything was normal. Just incase it didn't work, i tried repacking the ww2art.sga and ran the game. It got to the loading screen and froze.

    What am i doing wrong?

  18. #68
Are you sure you used the right 'maps' to install the skins in (your main Company of Heroes folder) and selected your desired skin correctly?

Great tool, now I'm finally able to customise this game. Shamefully though, the installer works very slowly (although I have a rather fast PC). Are there any alternatives to this tool? Also a way to install a bunch of skins in one time?

Nope, no alternatives, and it works so slow because it has to unpack a large .sga archive (takes a fair amount of time), copy your skins in there, then repack the archive (also takes a fair amount of time).

I can't think of anything stopping you from installing a bunch of skins at once, just have them all set up properly in the data\art folder like the readme advises you to.

What also works is adding a new Sga Archive to the RelicCoH.module file. So you just have to pack this special Skin Sga new every time you want to change Skins and this can be done within seconds.

Wouldn't that result in mismatches and such with multiplayer?

you have to press the button to the side of the box and browse to the location where the skins are extracted. Isn't there a readme included in the download?

    Enhanced Skins

    Your EXE program is great.

I was just wondering if it is possible to get it to work with skins like this one:
    companyofheroes filefront com
    file
    Rifleman_Sergeant_v1;105643

It has a Data and Dataattrib directory. I have the Gold Edition (with TOV unlocked) and no skins work without using your very excelent program. I tried your program for this pack, but I need to intigrate the Dataattrib directory (strangly other people just dump the 2 folders into the WW2 dir and use -dev mode and it works, but not for me ).

I'm afraid that particular "skin" is a mixed model, and not only does it require you to edit the base rifleman skin yourself (as the author neglected to include one), but it also requires you to use edited Attrib files for the role variation to work. This means you have to include it in a mod to work, modifying the original game with extracted attrib and raw skin files (ie. not packaged in a .sga archive) may not work for everyone, it never did for me since OF came out, so i think it may be a version specific thing.

It's best to use it in a mod anyway, as even if dropping them in your game's WW2 folder does work, those included attrib files will prevent you from connecting to games online.

I'll look over the readme file again.
    I do have Netframework too.

Well from memory you have to direct the first line to your game's directory, and the second line to the folder the Art folder is in. I've found it's best to make sure there's nothing else in the same folder as the Art folder, for instance just have it in C:\Data\

Keep in mind the skins need to named correctly and need to be in their correct folder structure, ie. Data\art\models\races\ etc. etc. Some skinners don't package their skins up in the correct folder structure, or they release a pack where most of the included skins aren't named correctly. This might be the case as to why your's aren't working. most skinners who do this usually do so because those specific skins are targeted for modders, who already know how to rename the skin files are can find where to put them. If this does turn out to be your problem, as the author of the skins for help installing them or try a different skin pack. I can always recommend Halftrack's skin packs, which are packaged in their proper folder structure and named correctly.

I've attached an image to show you how it should look. Keep in mind i didn't have an Art folder sitting around with skins i wanted to install, so i just directed it to the Art folder of my mod (probably would still work anyway).

Is there some reason why the skin installer no longer works for me after switching to Windows 7?

    Anyone else have this problem?

  33. #83

You need to revert to vanilla skins (copy your saved original ww2art.sga back into the Archives folder) and then reinstall the skins.

  36. #86
that doesnt work, believe me ive tried.

Every time you try to modify a fresh vCoH ww2art.sga file the skin installer ends up destroying the file into an unusable shape.

After running the skin installer the art file is reduced to half it's normal size (350ish mb) and is useless.

I have learned to do everything manually untill a new one gets coded for windows 7, if ever it does happen.

  37. #87
damn, could anyone tell me how to do it manually? i really want to download widowmakers skins again!
