Fear Not the Alien - Ordo Xenos Mod (Pg24 - Deathwatch Dreadnought)

Hey, this isn't even finished yet!

  2. #302
Hi all, indeed the mod is far from being finished.
Hopefully, many models are on the way, but then we will have to integrate them in the game, so they have their own personality etc...
As i said once, patience is gold.
Also, no worries, things are getting in a good rythm.

Anyway, some updates about those Servants, and Stormtroopers.
Ok, i am aware i need to fix shoulder pads on Sergeant, and Stormtroopers, plus many other details on many models, but for now i've been focusing on making the models effective, and looking overall decent.
Example: if an object collides too much in another object, or is being deformed oddly, then things are not good!
That's what i've been focusing today, little details will be easy to fix though, and they can wait for now.

Intresting. Very intresting... can't wait to see them ingame with my own eyes!

  4. #304
@Vene, dude, catch me next time, i will send you models.

Back to topic: new models, Shield Servants given by the Adeptus Mechanicus to the Ordo Xenos Inquisition.
I will fix the fx around them, as i didn't have time to move and re-link markers in 3Ds Max.
Next, some Attack Servants will come, followed by Heavy Attack Ones.
Also, i will make a swordwoman based on the Harlequin, indeed her moves remind me so much of this woman in Eisenhorn Trilogy.
Basically, Inquisitors have people coming from every horizons working for them.

As long as units and general concept remain fluffy, it should be fine.

I don't need the Swordswoman and the Attack Familiars, all those models so far are fine by me 'cos I'm sticking to my edited techtree.

Of course, what I do want... I'll PM you about it.

    Nice Familiars though!

Hi, on request from VenerableDread, here comes a Praetorian servant unit.

Note: Hopefully some minor changes can enhance the model, however, he will still walk like an ork
Texture is horrible, and needs a complete remake, i removed the green skin, so at least it looks less orkish.
I will add a lot of servitor/mechanical parts, to make him look more like a Praetorian.

    Pics:

  8. #308
    Hey iamaplayer,

How about using the Ogryns as a base instead of the orks. Perhaps use the Ogryns legs and the walking animations. That would solve you funny orky walking. How about mounting a lasconnon, plasma cannon, or heavy bolter to the right shoulder of him. Like this:

Hi Acroyer, i had same idea than you said, but thank you
Well i was just (for the first time) following instructions from someone.
I will next time do as i do usually, trust my instinct and give place to inspiration.
    Cheers dude.

Edit: i think those minis rock! I will try to reproduce them.

Anytime. Always trust your instincs. It's usually the best choice. Check out this site for inspiration:

This mod looks interesting, I like the ideas. What are you planning to do to balance the Deathwatch? Some kind of hardcap, maybe 3 or 4 squads?

Any way it could be used simultaneously with the Tyranid mod, when both are released?

Oh yeah, for sure. As long as they get Thudmeizer to do the AI so the AI is compatible with the Tyranids mod, it really only takes editing one file so the two mods play together, and you're done. I can't exactly remember how to do it, but I'm sure that someone like Compiler does.

Agreed with the-tempest here. Also, Deathwatch Support Teams and Combat Teams will have a shared hardcap up to four squads of any mixture.

Also, I am thinking about ditching the Deathwatch Librarian idea. The Inquisitor already has his position as psyker and having something similar yet not the same would be too... odd. And I also forsee model problems when the Captain was upgraded to the Librarian. It'll be like... Huh? My Deathwatch Captain from the Ultramarines Chapter turned into a Blood Angels Deathwatch Librarian? WTF? Consider your opinions for this.

Yeah, the Space Marines already have a Librarian, you don't want to imitate them too closely.

What kind of options will the Deathwatch Support and Combat teams have? Support teams = weapon emplacements, like IG Heavy Weapon Teams, or something different? I'm curious about how many different ways will be available to kit them out.

  16. #316
Hi all, i was about to make some Deathwatch Terminators but they don't exist at all in fluff, so i'll focus on re-making this Praetorian guy for now.

Yes. And a very good one, too! We have some high-quality Deathwatch Terminators ingame now. I thought you guys would be intrested. But They're so good that I don't want to link to the pictures. Instead, there is a direct link to the thread on our own forums here.

    Enjoy.

LOL! Finaldeath has just warned me about the prank, saying it was off-topic. I'm sorry if this causes any inconvenience, but he must have really misunderstood. Either that or he was trying to get back at me.

Anyhow, I guess that now April Fool's day is really over, I guess I'll change the title, but watch this space for any REAL updates. And I mean it.

  26. #326
Hi all, i'm going to work on a tall Deathwatch Space Marine.
In many books, i've read about some really tall ones, for whom the Space Marines armor were too small, so the Tech Marines added some wasted Terminator armor parts on the SM armor. Those Terminator parts can't be re-used for Terminators, because they're too damaged.
I'm sorry about the lack of updates recently, but between my work, and my Black Crusade mod, i've had very little time on my hands.
    So stay tuned people!

where do these "giants" fit in on the techtree

  28. #328
Hi all, i don't know yet, they (or HE alone) will be the equivalent of a Terminator, but since officially i never heard about any Deathwatch Terminator, this will be a nice way to replace them. Basically, it will be stronger than the usual Space Marine, and he should then have more strenght (translate this into more melee damage), this is not against the fluff as far as i know. Model wise, it will look like a Terminator, with some Space Marines parts.

Edit: i've been working hard, and i've been busy with The Black Crusade mod, just stay tuned as more update will come very soon.

That part about the tech marines using parts of terminator armor to make a suit for space marines that are too tall is from the ultramarines trilogy. Not the deathwatch stories.

its was Sergeant Pasanius Lysane who in the Ultramarine series of novels does have armour that has been crafted from parts cannibalised from Terminator Armour

  32. #332
Hi guys, indeed it's from the Ultramarine Omnibus, but i don't see why the Deathwatch couldn't have some tall Space Marines too, i've read the comic called "Deathwatch" and some of them look very tall, so why not eh?
Besides, it would look cool to have a tall DW unit, who would contrast with the regular DW SM.
I don't see a problem fluff wise, or TT wise.
And remember, there's no Ordo Xenos codex yet so...

  33. #333
    need more Marines...
    Impressive, however.

does this mean there'll be short marines? lol

What will deathwatch marines use for close combat? Will they use, knives, chainswords or their gun's bayonets? I hope it's the chainsword.

  36. #336
Logic would say they wouldd use thier bayonets. but then, look at the guardsmen. Nice Pointy Bayonet on thier lasgun, but they use their blunt little knife...

  37. #337
    The guard use their bayonets....

  38. #338
Hi all, i think it's knives, but i'm not sure yet, so i'll double check soon.
Right now, until i'm done with the "Terminator Space Marine" guy, here's a little update about the Inquisition Daemonhost.
He got shackles, chains, wards, nails, locks etc...it's still early work in progress though, just wait and see.

There are no Daemonhosts in the Ordo Xenos.
The Daemonhost is a unit which is specific to the radical branch of the Daemonhunters.

Well, it's not like there are official rules for who's allowed to have one and who's not ...nobody is. So an Inquisitor doesn't really need to be a member of the Ordo Malleus to create or possess a Daemonhost (though it's cértainly easier if so).

But I agree that it doesn't fit, it would be better to stick to Alienhunter-specific units.

    PS:
The same goes for these "tall marines". I've never heard or read about them. From what I gather from Blu3kn1gh7's comment , it just one single marine from one specific chatper who has this sort of armour, right?!
And why create a remplacement for DW Terminators in the first place? Although disregarded by many, the Goto novels feature DW Terminators.

  41. #341
Hi guys, my bad, i just looked at the Tech Tree that VenerableDread gave me once, and there's no Daemonhost, sigh.
So dismiss my post above, no Daemonhost, i will change this unit to integrate it in to The Black Crusade faction.

@Compiler: it's getting hard to choose units, as there's no Ordo Xenos codex yet, i'm tempted to send you the tech tree my friend, i'll ask VenerableDread if he doesn't mind of course, is that ok with you? Your input would be pure gold to me man!

Edit: i'm about to start to work on the Magos Xenobiologist unit, and rework the Praetorians i made once, i think that's safe and fluffy, well i hope so.

Edit#2: bah, the tech tree is posted in the beginning of this thread already...@Compiler: are Magos Xenobiologist and Praetorians good to go in your opinion? And what about DW Terminators?

Well, since there is no codex, I cannot be of much help. It's Venerable Dread's mod, so he pretty much puts what he wishes in it.

What Compiler said. It's true, dat!

And colonel temp, you just really gave me a really creepy idea. Don't know if it's fluffy though, but it sounds like a nice idea.

Basically, remember guys, this is not like Compiler's Inquisition: Daemonhunt mod, which is almost true to codex and only focuses on the puritian side of the Ordo Malleus, if I remembered correctly. This mod however, as there is no official codex released for the Ordo Xenos (yet), is basically how I would envision the Ordo Xenos race, both puritian and radical alike. So, yeah, there might be really crazy things, but it's all worth it.

And talking of Deathwatch Terminators, they should have normal Terminator armour, with Deathwatch bits on, like what the Deathwatch Marines should have. A hybrid of power armour and Terminator armour is just plain too wierd to me.

Can't wait to see what you can do with the Magos Xenobiologist and the Praetorians, iamaplayer.

  45. #345
Hi all, here come the Deathwatch Terminators early WiP.
The book on the back is a test, either i will remove it completly, or i will add some bionic support to it, depending if people like it or not.
New and revised units will come soon...

PS: at Vene, maybe you should change the thread's title?
At Compiler, thank you anyway my friend

Nice, but you need to use the Deathwatch shoulderpad from the Deathwatch Marine model in the WIP mod which can be downloaded at the Ordo Xenos Forums. (Which is for the mod team only!) You might also want to look at the same model to see how Chapter shoulderpads are randomised. If you are having trouble downloading the WIP mod, iamaplayer, I'll PM the Deathwatch Marines to you.

  47. #347
Hi Vene, no problem man, i will refine those Terminators. A lilttle feedback about the book on their back would be welcome though, because i'm hesitating about it...i was thinking to add a book, held by an electronic pict support (high tech FX type that i could make eventually).

harking back to what i understand in regard to codex alien hunters is that its badnying around the design studio but none of the dev really want to pick it up, so its unlikely we will see one anytime soon,

also i still don't think the deathwatch woulod be using terminator suits, they are just to preacious to the chapters and inquistion suits don't tend to look anything like Astartes pattern suits, so i think the whole Deathwatch terminator is dodgy ground even though you have the beginings of good looking models. Also the suits have far stronger spirits than that of the standard astartes power armour suits so painting out the majority of the chapter colour like on the power armour would likely anger the suits spirit.

I reckon using Deathwatch kill teams themselves as tier 3 units be the better idea, say ranged and cc version, ranged with sergeant and librain and cc with captain and sgt or somthing along those lines, maybe also deathwatch razorbacks.

@Sgt.Roadkill: why does it matter that its not extremely fluffy? would it really take away from the gameplay or the feel of what the mod team is going for?
