Has anyone been able to defeat Expert AI on Skirmish consistently with both Allies and Axis?
Has anyone been able to defeat Expert AI on Skirmish consistently with both Allies and Axis?
Yes, but only on 2v2 with a friend of mine. Quite easy and yet quite hard.
We did this consistently with both Allies and Axis to practice for a LAN tournament in Australia.
We benefited because we won with flying colours! ^_^

I hope you like mine.
I've been beating TWO expert AI on 2v1 skirmishes for both sides using each doctrine. This is only on the Vire River Valley map though. Still, it's a lot of fun and I wish they'll release more maps like this soon.
I've also beaten expert AI on Lyon for both sides too but I think most people can do this already.
Are you using barbed wire and tank traps a lot?
My brother and I do commonly, however, mostly on maps where you can create a choke points. It's pretty difficult otherwise. Still possible but you just really have to prepare for a rush. Getting AT Guns ASAP usually works well for me.
Today I decided to try out Expert and I do like it for the challenge and hate it for its hardness. Unlike Hard the AI does send mixed units. And damn they are ruthless. Ive been playing around on Angoville (a map I despise with every passing day). I lost every single time out of about 7 attempts. They are able to push me back no matter what. And all landgrab generally backfires. I did have some nice last stands where I was salvaging broken enemy tanks (and my only Tiger which I lost to 1 freaking AT gun!) inside my base enough to buy my Grens panzerschrecks to fight on against the hordes of Allied vehicles and the constant rangers assaults.

Here are mine, I hope you enjoy them.
Sorry this took so long, I had to try often until I finally beat the CPU.
just kidding, I was busy visiting family![]()
Expert AI is easy. All they can do is spam jeeps.
As axis, I only wire the two bridges but the middle crossing is open the whole time, no tank traps at all. Later the two bridges are blown by my Goliaths when the AI tries to send vehicles across.Originally Posted by GSurge
The best reason for playing against two expert AI is that they can send a massive force against your defenses and the resulting carnage is amazing.

If one of the reasons you asked is because you'd like to be able to do it yourself Xinterp try playing online. Worked for me last week.
After an monstrously underwhelming series of 8 straight stompings I retired hurt to the practise nets. Blow me if I havn't beat all the 1v1 maps on expert 1st time. Just allies so far mind going to try as axis now.
Can have 'plays if you like (PM) but you'll find better. Only slightly unusual thing is I don't use wire, traps or mines.
You guys might to give the AI mod a try.
Here's my replay of 2x expert AI vs me on Vire River Valley. No tank traps or mines. Annihilation Victory in 30 minutes.

I'd like to see a replay of someone (fenwe) beating this mod on expert
It's pretty tough.
I've never played the AI mod, but I can beat Expert AI 1v1 on any map as any team... in fact I find it too easy still... but the AI for an RTS usually does get predictable after a whille, its just how RTSs work, its no strike against them.
One thing I like to do is never attack their base, at all, it make it a bit more fun, because this way the computer can make comebacks. It draws the battle out and makes it more fun.
Never saved a replay against the computer, never really saw a reason too, but I'd submit one if you'd like.
I think the expert AI is still broken, honestly. It sucks at sending out mixed units - it'll either spam AT guns or stugs when you play against Axis. Rarely if there is an absolute ton of fuel it'll go for panthers. On fuel limited maps it seems unable to "Save up" for a better tank then the stugs.
Infantry is ok, though I think it could do better there too without too much work.
Once you master tank traps and barbed wire, the AI is a joke.

I am happy with the new Expert AI, it sends a broad variation of units.
Even seeing tigers and panthers.
Takes some more time but I am usually able to win.
Me and a buddy tried 2v2 against expert on a 6p map, we got beaten there due to the cpu being a better micro-maniac.
But on even odds it's easy.
I use the Adv AI MOD... and the answer is "not yet". I have to tell too that I do not use any barbed wire or tank traps, so the difficult rises...
Saludos!!
What does this AI mod change?
Broad strokes the AI mod increases unit variety in general, but the AI will try to counter depending on what it sees. So if you spam AC, then the AI will spam AT. It is also quicker to get tanks. We have a hot fix for Axis. They were staying in Phase three too long. Given enough time, the AI will also research veterancy for axis, but that is after it has a decent number of tanks. We tuned parameters so that the AI isn't "thinking" quite as long trying to build units, which means it has more sooner. We currently are working on proper Doctrine usage, but that isn't currently available. The Allies also research and makes use of BAR and stickies.
This mod does not and will not change unit stats of any kind.
I beat Expert Allies AI on Angioville without the use of anything more than some sandbags (and they weren't placed to block off locations, but for cover).
Hard fight.
As an aside, I believe the out of the box AI has a 40% bonus, so the advanced AI mod on normal is about the same level as the expert unmodded. If I recall, the modded bonus for hard and expert are 100% and 200% respectively. There's a hard fight for you...
We did a 3v3 expert with a random group of people and beat the Comp. Its just alot of barb wires and tank tanks it screws with the comps way pointing and drives it crazy. Plus you can set up traps for it like that. Comps dumb no matter the setting it just has more resources relics never been a great AI maker.
check my xfire ss's deathsconundrum
hmmm I win each time against expert and I don't think I'm thaaat good. Expert isn't really a challenge to me... They should make an harder AI like in WC3 where the computer gets more ressources than you.
edit: oh, I didn't now about this mod, gonna have to try it out.
OFFTOPIC (Warcraft 3 AI):
Yeah, WC3 Expert is almost close to impossible since the computer gets resources double the rate you do. They pump out both land and air units while powerleveling their heroes at a pretty insane rate.
BACK TO TOPIC:
Since I posted this thread, I've been practicing against the Expert AI and am able to defeat it roughly 50% of the time - without the use of Barbed Wire or anything that would prevent AI mobility. I'm working my way to hopefully defeat the Expert AI 100% of the time comfortably. Trying diff strats, etc.
BTW, thanks for all the great feedback. I plan to begin Online play once I feel entirely comfortable playing against Expert AI with both factions using various strategies.

You should really go against AI mod instead of focusing on Expert if you want to practice versus AI before playing online. AI mod is a lot better then Expert IMHO and plays a lot more like a human opponent.
Also, Expert AI is the same as hard AI with additional resources if I'm not mistaken.
Here are my replays of defeating Expert AI:

NOTE: I did not use any bunkers, tank traps, or barbed wire as it is my understanding that these greatly affect AI mobility.
If anyone has spare time, I would appreciate any sort of feedback regarding my gameplay as I am preparing myself to start playing online soon.
