Hey there boys and girls! Yes, I'm still here, sorry again about the lack of updates, between work, Uni and real-life stuff I havn't had much MODding time.
I do have some pics for you all though....
Still got work to do. The .MAD animation isn't working and the forward weapons are being a pain in the butt. What loser designed HW2 anyway. What a pain in the arse it is to MOD! Weapon effects are spread over three different folders for one! WTF! Why!? Sigh....
Sorry about that, been working on this Omega for ages and it still isn't done. HW2 is no where near as fun to MOD as HW1. Anyway, back on topic.The MOD is still alive and kicking, just moving slowly. Maybe I'll start work on a Sharlin for a while. Gotta get away from this Omega.

Looks like that omega has 12 sided engines (ish). For the sake of a few more polys I'd bevel those ends in and model the interior of the engines instead of doing it with a flat texture. Not much of an increase in polys for a lot of benefit.
In fact, looking at the model I'd change some of the circular parts (the ends of the rotator and the engines) and I'd redo them with more polys. The larger the part the more polys should be spent on it. If necessary to keep the poly numbers down I'd do this at the expense of the detail on the front or the goblins.
For the engines I'd maybe go 16 or even 20 sided, and maybe more for the rotator as it's even larger. The actual jump in polys won't be much as compared to the benefit of detail you get from it.

i think the explorer could forfill multiple roles
it could be fitted with sensor modules, and used to collect salvage. if you could programme a seris of derelitic ships spread about multiplayer maps - u could use it to repair the derelitics and bring them under your control.
Perhaps it [Explorer] could also deploy Hyperspace Gates?

I've got some WIP pics of the Warlock too, show them in a little bit. Also, I\m having trouble finding good reference material. Any help with that would great.

Anyone had any thoughts on the resource system this MOD might use? I'm not sure about the whole Stations = Comand points idea.

Ressource system...how about the standard B5 one :P Harvesters harvesting some kind of ressource, similar to the Startrek Armada 2 B5 mod.
IMO, the Warlock was one of the better concepts from the show that had a lot of interesting ones.

Yeah, I know the engines are different. I used a mixture of the B5Tech images and the GreatWars Warlock. All the pics I've seen for the Warlock are different so I sorta combined them. Didn't really like the look of the B5Tech engines when I did them.

Well my warlock version is based on the pic from B5tech and the pics and the actual .lwo mesh from the Warlock 3 project website.
Busy redoing my Var'Nic's main hull tex atm in 2048x2048 pixels as my current tex at 512x512 sucks major!!!!!!!

I've been thinking about the resource system. I'm hoping to replace asteriods with stations (EA, Narn and centauri) That way they will start off neutral. If I can I'd like to make them capturable and have sub-systems to allow construction of extra dock points and the ability to build certain ships, eg: Defence Platforms. Shuttles will take the place of resource collecters and will 'dock' to 'gather' manpower and bring it back to your commandship/carrier's.
Not sure about how it'll work for the stations gametype, but we'll sort that out later.![]()

Yeah, the pattern isn't right. It needs to be more triangular. Hmmm, the inner hull could use some more detail modeled in too.

Regarding the Warlock Vs. Sharlin - The Warlock has two weapons equivalent to what the Sharlin has, and those are fixed position weapons. The Sharlin, on the other hand, has at least five or six main guns from what i've seen, and they can alter direction and can fire long beams for dealing with starships, or short pulses for dealing with fighters. Not to mention the Sharlin has that stealth system, and it carries the superlative Nial-class fighter. Not to mention the Sharlin probably has a few more of those main guns (B5 tech said it has 18, and it's the best resource aside from the tv-shows themselves). That's a HUGE advantage for the Sharlin that few people seem to take into account - the Warlock is known to have, fixed-position main guns, the Sharlin has at least 5 or 6, and they can change direction.

I'll update the pic for a better view of the ship.The first pic was at a bad angle but hid detail that you couldn't normally see.....You must refresh the page to reload the new image.
As for the meshes I dunno as the Poseiden still has to be re-texture mapped for most of the ship.The EA shuttle is finished but I dunno.....

Don't stress about the textures. I want to get a few key ships in, even untextured so I can have a break from modelling/texturing and do some scripting. I also want to mess around with the resource systems, see which is best. And which works with teh orginal HW2 sips ingame. Sort of a proof of concept. Some I can release with those who are helping out.

I was curious - do you have seperate playing styles imagined/lined up for each different race? By what we've heard and seen in the shows, each of the different races should be remarkably different from the other.
Fighters should play a much bigger role here than they did in HW2. They should actually be able to threaten a capital ship; as we've seen repeatedly throughout the show, fighters were able to pose a significant threat even to the largest of capital ships. I think that fighters should actually be able to make a fair difference in the middle of a firefight.
For example, we know for a fact that the Minbari have the most powerful ships, hands down, of all the younger races. I was thinking that maybe the Minbari should have the best speed, armor, and firepower off all the other races, and have a decent fighter capacity, but they should be the most expensive. It would just seem to fit.
The Centauri are known to have excellent weapons and good speed, but they don't exactly have lot of armor. The Primus tends to epitomize a glass cannon; they should be a tough fight, but if you can get the drop on them by firing the first volley, you'd stand better chances of coming out on top.
The Narn... would be a little different. In order to get a more varied style, they should build dedicated combat ships that are on par in terms of firepower and maybe armor (but likely a little slower) than equivalent ships, but they're cheaper and quicker to build. But then again, they'd require dedicated carriers for fighter support, which means that if fighters are going to be actually worthwhile in this game, the Narn would be at a disadvantage unless the build carriers for their fleets.
Earth Force should probably be the most balanced of all the races - average armor, firepower, and speed, with good fighter capacity, but not really excelling in one area or another. They wouldn't be weak, by any means, but in a one on one fight, they run a fair chance of losing.
The ISA would be a tacticians favorite race - using mostly smaller ships, that are fast, but not well armed or armored. They'd likely be a late game powerhouse (because then they'd get access to the Whitestar, Victory, and even the accursed Valen), but until then they'd be fairly vulnerable to a direct assault. For reference, the only reason i'm including the Valen is because it'd be there to make things more interesting; it was proven to be fast, it's likely well armed, but it never seemed to be very survivable. It felt to me like it epitomized raider tactics - it gets in, hits hard, and then gets out. Something considerably cheaper than the Victory (most expensive, yet most powerful ship in the game), but you still wouldn't be able to stand and fight with it.
League of Non-Aligned Worlds... I was thinking they'd be similar to the Zerg - just relying on a horde of weak, yet inexpensive craft to do their dirty work. They'd be a rusher's best friend for sure.
The Drakh, I was thinking, would be closer to the Minbari, but a step or two down in firepower, and not relying on fighters at all, prefering to use capital ships (they'd still have those little corvette thingy's that nearly took out Delenn's Whitestar fleet, but they're not real fighers). Mostly I was thinking they'd be here purely for the visual aesthetic, not because they offer crazy new tactics or anything.
These are just my thoughts on the mod; by no way do I mean to force my ideas upon you. These are just things I thought up and figured would make things a little more interesting by providing entirely different playing styles.

That seems pretty much accurate.
Different play style is good if you want to get a mod off the drawing board... just imagine if you added the Vorlon or Shadow races to this already large list of races... and we know already that both are not consider to be part of the younger races... both are actually the left over of the older races that ascended to a higher plane
what about build time.... the time it takes to rebuild your fleet is a big advantage in a fight
if you can make some of the least advanced races build faster they would get an advantage over ISA or the minbari
with grate tec comes grate buildtime
