For those who have read the 2nd Ultramarines novel:
I do wish Graham McNeil had finished 'Warriors of Ultramar' out with Uriel and Pasanius being excommunicated from the Ultramarines for his tactics used to beat the 'nids, in lieu of that taking place inbetween that and 'Dead Sky, Black Sun'. That would have made a killer cliffhanger.
Also, Uriel just kinda of 'became' a deathwatch member, them that aspect was promptly ignored in the 3rd book.... wtf.
my favorite GG novels so far: Necropolis, Sabbat Martyr, and Honour Guard. (i liked them all thought :thumb: )
I liked Honour Guard Caves of Ice and Eisenhorn series. Spoiler: I hate it that Brag got killed in one bbok I think it was the one with the promethium worlds. I dunno.
I finished reading the Dark Adeptus and saw the movie Virus while I was in the middle of reading. I suppose their is a link in the plot about machines/human flesh but that is really it alot of the other aspects of the virus movie did not show up in Dark Adeptus for one the captain of the ship turned agaisnt his crew while in Dark Adaptus no turned agaisnt the GKs even the Archmagos (the one sent by the Adaptus Mechanicus) seemed like he was going to turn (which is actually what I was expecting) and for one the team sent was preped and ready for battle while in Virus they were just a bunch of misfortunate people. They may seem very similiar but there are some other movies out there that also have the plat about machines/human tissue being merged I was watching the movie "the shaft" about a haunted elevator shaft (I was curious sinced it seemed really stupid I) but it turned out **Spoiler on the movie** The elevator's microchip was also fused w/ human tissue and began growing a gaining more intelliegence. It wasn't much of a blockbuster hit but I just wanted to point out the fact that there are probably many other movies out there that deal with the same plot line. Also because I don't think Ben Counter would take the plot out other movies (maybe the movie inspired him) but he seems like a very original writer and it's not like anyone else has written a novel about/involves the GKs he is the first and probably wanted to explore new ground.
I can't find any of the older Gaunts Ghosts novels, I wanna start from the beginning of the series, but I can't find the old ones.
I want to Read Space Marine because it mentions something about The Tyranids
Question, is the Inquisition War about Chaos or Eldar? I read
"Webway" and shadows feel upon my heart at the mention of the Eldar, because I hate them.
Inquisition War starts with just imperial factions (OK so the Genestealers half wrecked the planet, they still didn't matter much to the story) but some of those factions have connections and one of those connections is Eldar and one of them is Chaos.
The Eldar don't get massive page time though.
I don't mean to redirect the subject, but I just got done reading Dawn of War, and I have to say it's a great read. Really nice additions to Gabriel's backstory. I only saw one glaring mistake. When they mentioned Khaela Mensha Khaine, the author stated that his bloodied hand was due to his being beaten by the Chaos gods. WRONG. His hand was actually bloodied as punishment by the other Eldar dieties for killing a mortal. Besides that he stays pretty true to the canon. Recommended!
Yes DoW (the first book) was great added ALOT of much needed detail I thought the DoW book was alot better then the game. The fluff on the book is questionable on more then one occasion.
One more note by me: Now that you have finished reading DoW quit while your ahead the second is OK but if you caught that bit of fluff that was wrong (i completely missed that wow) the second book was not very fluffy in my opinion I will not say any of the plot I don't want to ruin it for you if you decide to read it. The second one isn't terrible but the first one is better/fluffier then the second.
Yeah, I've heard that the second book sucks like a leafblower in reverse.
Mine are easily in the double digits, i'd rather not go count right now though! Haha. Actually I really won't take a chance on a 40k book unless looking on here to see someones review of it, so keep the reviews coming!!! The eisenhorn trilogy rocks hard, so does Space Wolf. I've only read one gaunt ghost book, but it was pretty good. Fire warrior...kinda...jumped around alot.
I've been reading Eisenhorn for about 2 weeks now and I'm starting Hereticus. So I was thinking about what to read next I was wondering how good Ravenor and Ravenor Returns is and if its like a sequel to Eisenhorn?
Is Crusade for Armageddon better than Conquest of Armageddon? Need to know for the purchase. Specifically, which one features Ghazkhull Thraka?
i dont know if anyone said this yet but i found the blood angels books good and the 3 ultramarines book that are out are good.
Both Armageddon books are good, In my opinion. Conquest features Thrakka.
On a seperate note: The Necromunda books are good too.

I loved the Eisenhorn Trilogy. Very well described and portrayed decline and tragedy.
But then again, I'm partial to most of Abnett's works. I plan to begin reading GK soon, however...

Are there any books with Abbadon the Despoiler in them? I mean, as one of the characters. Or any told from a chaos perpective?
How is fantasy not grim enough for people? I'd say it's a hell of a lot worse to live in a Fantasy world, where Chaos Has already taken over half the planet, and it's not really safe to step outside your door.
The book "Iron Hands" (note: haven't finished it yet) mentions the 13th Black Crusade and Abaddon a lot.
There will be in a month or two. "Horus Rising" will be the first book in a series that tells the story of the Heresy. Abbadon will be one of the characters, since he had a part to play in that story.Are there any books with Abbadon the Despoiler in them?

Abbadon is also in Shadow Point but that book is a load of crap. I prefer to just remember Execution Hour and forget that Rennie ever wrote a second book about BFG.

Out of all of them, I'd have to say I absolutely enjoyed the Ciaphus Cain series. I haven't finished DEATH OR GLORY yet, but I will soon.
there will be a new CS Goto book following on from DOW: Ascension....it follows the adventures of a single Librarian who got sucked into the warp whilst defending Blood Raven geneseed during the Ascension storyline.

the sad thing is that i will most likely buy both books due to the fact that i like to have complete collections/trilogies etc. regardless of quality

I have a few "quirks" about my books, especially BL ones. I don't like the spines creased (as sometimes people pick up by books and unknowingly bend back the pages, often leading to a lengthy string of profanity and scolding), I don't like bent covers, and I have to read chapter-by-chapter (I just can't stop reading midway through).
I really enjoyed ravenor, and I just bought DAs new book, Fell Cargo.
I just finished 'Fell Cargo', actually. It's got some fun characters, and classic Abnett plot twists, if you don't mind his usual reliance on deus ex machina and sheer luck :O
I loved Sheerglass, the vampiric gunnery master. "Don't expect me to handle that Bishop-blessed cannon shot!"

I just finished reading 'Fire Warrior' last night, and that's arguably my favorite WH40k book I've read thus far. It totally opened my eyes to the Tau philosophy, and I couldn't put it down. The ending was great, too.
I'm on to 'Lord of the Night' by Si Spurrier as well, he's a terrific, yet overlooked, writer.
I'm a huge fan of Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghosts series, and I'm sure that needs no introduction.
I also would recomment Dead Sky, Black Sun by Graham McNeill, its part of the Uriel Ventris series. (I really gotta get the others, lol)

Iron Hands is a highly recommended read. Great fluff on the chapter.
Has anyone read Ravenor? I started reading after I finished Eisenhorn it seems to be more detective like then Eisenhorn and doesn't seem to have as much action as Eisehorn (of course I am only a quarter of the way threw the book it probably will pick up). I was just wondering what you guys thought about Ravenor.
Edit: I just finished the book and the ending was great. Of course I think Eisenhorn had more action in it but then again Eisenhorn is 3 books for some reason I keep forgetting that lol.

Is that the third Ultramarines book? If so, I don't think there will be a sequel - the 3 Ultramarines books are being published in some omnibus edition soon.

I finished "Grey Knights" and I have to say it's one hell of a book.
I recommend it to everyone who hasn't read it yet!
Now I started "Storm of Iron". Hope it is as good as GK. The first 20 pages are awesom!
Storm of Iron is one of my favorites. I think you'll like it a lot.

Dont forget the Last Chancers, ive read the first and theres something about the mob of rappists, murderers, insane screwups and more, that reminders me of the Dirty Dozen, a good memory for the boys (and girls) growing up in the 80s... A very good book guys.
Aren't they coming out with a collected edition of the Last Chancers books, too?

Yes!, yes!, yes!, maybe(?). Grab a 'Codex: Chaos...' and read up on the Night Lords background info, or search for it here, either way, it would be helpful, but I was able to understand it without and prior Night Lords info.
Spurrier's writing just flows , and is superb, well done metaphors and conveying of emotions, thoughts and the like. The book is done in alternating chapters from the point of view of the two main cahracters and gradually the parallel narratives come to intertwine for the climax.... and cliffhanger. oh mai Si write a sequel ugh :gonemad:
Put it this way, this book has convinced me start on a Night Lords Chaos army D:!
A superb, yet overlooked, and highly reccommended addition to any BL addict's library.
What about the new horus rising book. I bought it yesterday and have just read the first half of the first chapter, and it looks rather good.
But IMO by far the best GW series of novels are the gotrek and felix books. The gaunts ghosts books are probably the best of the 40k ones, way better than the eisienhorn books (IMO)
I'm nearly through the entire set of 13 books I got off amazon. I just have the last two books in the Gaunt's Ghost series to go through.
It's been an amazing series, I know I will definately be reading it through again in the future. I keep seeing the series being made into a movie mini series akin to Band of Brothers. I always see Hugh Laurie being the perfect candidate to play Ibram Gaunt and John Rhys Davies playing Colm Corbec. Actually I have most of the characters in the series cast, but I won't go into that here.
I also plan on getting the rest of the Last Chancer series. I really liked 13th Legion despite some harsh reviews. I find the penal legion endlessly fascinating and the ending was so good, I had a maniacal smile on face when I read it.
I NEED to get Horus Rising!!! I am really obsessed with Horus and Abaddon and really want to get a chance to learn about them in exhaustive detail.
Are there any other books that deal extensively with combat with Orks? I loved 15 Hours which had a lot of trench warfare with Orks and I plan on getting the two Armageddon books. Are there any other noteworthy ones?

gaunt ghost novels are a must rad the first two and there great reading horus rising now and thats good as well
