It probably wouldn't be quite as big in that picture, but it looks really really really nice. It'll be interesting if I try to get it into my own mod, considering I'm following historical data as closely as possible. I'd probably have to weaken it considerably before adding it in.

    Why?

The M3 90mm on the Pershing couldn't penetrate the front of a Koenigstiger, and the KwK43 88mm on the Koenigstiger could always penetrate the front of a Pershing. Allied players would cry bloody IMBA if I kept things historically accurate

Still, I can't wait for a model importer to become available. I'm already running into problems since I need at least a couple new vehicle models per side to make my new doctrines work smoothly. I can only hope there'll be a lot of modellers who release their work publically for all to use, or if I can snag a modeller for my project.

I look forward to seeing any other work you've got for CoH, and can't wait to see that model in-game when the import tools are out.

Very well done Skyward. Nice model to be sure

Sturmhaubitze: First of all, the scale is very close to reality. The Royal Tiger or Tiger II was a lot larger than the Sherman.... one rule of thumb is too picture the Commander standing inside the Tiger II turret, if that is a fit, the scale is bang on.... it is the comparison to scale that determines if something "fits".... in this case the Person (which is a normal measure) to be seen using both models.

Secondly: why worry about the "Allied" players and their Cheese and beverage favorite!! (WHINE)

If you limit the tank then they can realistically wail away at it with 10 shermans til they kill it dead......suck it up boys, that is what it was really like!!

The other way was to experience mechanical breakdown which was the usual cause of German Tank losses...... The Normal "Tiger I" was lost due to mechanical failure more than 90% of its total lost during the entire WWII time frame....FACT

According to surviving German Tankers, the Tiger I was so valuable and yet so indestructable, that they were personally held accountable to go back during the dead of night, and either "escort" a tank retrieval team to the disabled Tiger and recover it!! or make 100% sure of its destruction to prevent it to fall intact into enemy hands. The Tiger II was better in a lot of ways, yet worse in others..... The German Tanks were that good this late in the war, but yet they were such petrol gobblers, and sooo heavy that they could not drive down normal roads, and so big, awkward, and hastily slapped together that they broke down quicker and faster than they were able to come to grips with the advancing Americans. (9 times out of 10 the Allies bypast these strung out German Tanks and later follow up forces found abandon relics to be admired at will by the Support staff which provided no more activity than the exercise of climbing onto the Large Tanks for picture taking......)

Its a pity though, that no model importer is in sight...

That Tiger II model of yours Skyward is the best one I've seen yet. I've been working on my own model of the Tiger II but yours just takes the cake.

Your Tiger II model could easily replace the Tiger Ace in game. Just wanted to ask you if you have any sfx\weapon sounds for your model?

I'm sure you would want to add a different firing sound for your model so it wouldn't sound the same as the Tiger I. And yes I know their ain't any official tools that'll let you change it but its good to have it so when they do come out you can just put it all in.

P.S. I've been working on a T26E4 aka "Super Pershing" armed with the longer and more powerful T15E1 90 mm gun. If possible when the mod tools ever do come out sound\model importer. But been having some problems with my computer.

Maybe you could make one Skyward to compliment your Tiger II. That way the Allies have something to combat your Tiger II. Here's a pic of it.

Looks very nice, is it already special-effected (normal map and stuff)?

tankkiller, pics with more than 800px should be linkyfied!

Meh, I had a response to Xamot in regards to the game design repurcussions of putting the Koenigstiger in exactly as it historically was, but this thread should be about Skyward's awesome model and skinning work, not a 'design vs. reality' discussion.

    So I deleted my message.

    My apologies.

Very nice. I'm certainly looking forward to being able to import 3d models ingame and seeing (and playing) this beast ingame.

Well the engine would sound similar enough, and the crew voices could be the same. The gun was different (The KwK43 on the Tiger II really outperformed the Tiger I's KwK36), but I don't think anyone would mind hearing the same thunderous boom on both machines.

This way i have a working model and know what works and what doesn't, so i don't have to fix same mistakes X number of times.
That's the best approach. Seeing something to its conclusion is far less of a drain than making several half-baked unfinished projects.

There's currently one community member working on figuring out the CoH model structure, so hopefully he makes the breakthroughs he needs to make a functional importer soon.

Yeah, watched it. I had to use vlc for this, no other application would play it.
This is the poly reduced version, isnt it? Hell it beats the original models by miles.

It is the reduced version, but you have to remember that i never bothered to finish or texture the high poly version.

And this is one of the reasons i got bored to it, i was trying to achive way too much with it

Isn't the Super Pershing (with the exception of a few minor details) externally simmilar to the standard Pershing already in game?

At least it's not based off of a Sherman chassis like 90% of all other US WW2 armoured vehicles. With just a small amount of modelling (or in some cases, no modelling at all) you can expand out the US vehicle roster a great deal with the M4 Sherman model. However it'd be really hard to tell the M4 Sherman from the Assault Gun variant from the Zippo Flamethrower variant from the... and so on and so on

Yes Wolf it was pretty much the same model I believe, except it was a bit larger and more armored all around especially up front, and it had that long and powerful 90 mm T15E1 high velocity gun.

  20. #20
You could use the sound from the Flak 88 as the main gun sound for the Tiger II. Just a thought.

I'm loving this model, great, can't wait for the model importer to be released...!

Is there any word on that actaully, is there an estimated date for when we'll see a model importer?

    What about a patch 1.5?

If we ever get a sound/sfx tool I'd use this sound for the Tiger II. It just has that monsterous boom sound to it if it were in game. Would edit it of course to eliminate the engine noise in the background though and clear it up a bit. Theirs even one for the Tiger I and notice how it differs from the Tiger II cannon.

id love to see someone make a mod with some of these tanks that excellent modellers like skyward are making if the mod had realistic armour penetrations. u can just imagine what would happen if it was like regular CoH.

an almost completely realistic mod would have the germans with better tanks and weapons but would have slower build times and be more expensive to represent that the allies had more manpower that they could pump into the war.

great work skyward an awesome model

u probably need some codecs installed.. and then open up ur wma 10 or mpc to run the video..

    >> google.com >> "codec pack" >> download it & install >> run ur video, with sound and picture

BTW we in KMOD are in the future going to add the Kingtiger, is it possible yo use ur model ?
or even model for us ?

If it's only a bit larger then there probably won't be a need to remodel it. There should probably be an art.lua file somewhere for the Pershing which dictates the ingame scale of the unit. just tweaking that a bit should do the trick.

I think making the vehicles appear uniform was standard practice to hide the AFV's true capability until it fired it's weapon. Chiefly because letting the enemy know that you had any kind of special ability almost always guaranteed that you would be targetted for destruction first.

IIRC, the Brits and Canadians went through alot of trouble to hide the long barrel of the Firefly's to make it appear as just another regular Sherman.

Of course the downside for us is that it can make the allied armour in the game aesthetically monotonous.

And when the tools are out and working, it would be extreamly easy to just make the barrel longer. (god i really have to stop saying 'when the tools are out')

cant you just make the barrel longer via 3DS Max?

    Sure can.

And then when the tools are out and working it can actually be imported and used.

well kinda tough for the US ...

... well hello i watched the CoH forum a very long time and want to add that if there should be a Koenigstiger into the game with the model importer then there also should be a counter to that tank as no one of the US Tanks could barely stand agains this Tank.

Therefore id suggest if the axis will get a Tiger II Tank then the US should get the T29 Heavy Tank (please note not the T28 which i would not consider a "true" Tank as its a just bigger and meaner Stug with a fixed Turret ) which was a project in 1944 as an Experimental Tank of the US and was just completed shortly after the WW2 ended but still should get in as a counter to the Tiger II Tank of the germans.

After all this tank project began 1944 so it was clearly within the WW2 timeframe but was just not early enough completed to get into the War but as CoH is not an exact reflection of the real WW2 in terms of units/infantry there should be such a powerful Tank included for the Allies and btw the T29 was a more advanced, bigger version of the T26E3 (M26 Pershing) which sported a heavier main gun (105mm T5) and a max frontal armor of around 280 mm (= 11inch) and was therefore more then a match if not even better then the Koenigstiger but like i said it came into services (several Pilot models) just after the WW2 ended (06/45) but anyway it should be considered as a counterpart to the Koenigstiger because the Axis would otherwise have a godlike Tank that could even take on agains several Pershings at once which would be way unfair (gameplay/balance of unitpowers) and as such the US should get this Prototype

The exact characteristics of this Tank would be

    Heavy Tank T29
    General characteristics

    Crew 6
    Length 11.57 m (37 ft 11.5 in)
    Width 3.80 m (12 ft 5.5 in)
    Height 3.20 m (10 ft 6 in)
    Weight 64.0 tonnes (141,000 lbs)

    Armour and armament
    Armour 25 mm–280 mm (1-11 in)
    Main armament
    T5 105 mm gun 63 rounds
    Secondary armament
    7.62 mm machine gun

There were 2 T29's made... ever. (If I am thinking of the right tank) A bit different then all the king tigers that saw action. Change the tiger ace with the king tiger, and there is no need for balance.

Skyward, if you need a schematic diagram for making the critical hit indicator panel image, you can grab one from here and adjust it in photoshop to get the same look:

So is this the time when I can get you to do more models?

I'd like a Marder II, an SdKfz 7/1 or 7/2 Antiaircraft halftrack, a Grille Ausf. H, and a StuPz IV "Brummbaer" please!
