    What's wrong with this water?

Can't figure out why I can't get the water in this map to meet the coast correctly. I haven't had this problem in previous maps.

The ocean floor is perfectly level and there is a difference of about 7 in the heights (floor 10, beach 17).

Is this a special type of water? ...perhaps you must choose another one.

..or try this one... delete the water and replace it ... but i think that you tried that already ^^

Only time I've seen anything like that was when I was adjusting the terrain AFTER creating the water spout, and clicking Update on the water tool tab fixed it.

I've tried recreating the water with every available option, it's still like this. I'm thinking what might be the problem is that when I imported a heightmap, I left the "minimum" to the default of zero, when I should perhaps have raised it.

Anybody import heightmaps often to know about this?

Try stamping your whole map using the bounding box mode on the stamp tool onto a new plane, raised to say 20 meters with the set value tool.

Just go into the water tab and press update. this stuff occurs every time you change the heights with the heightmap editor. It doesnt update automatically upon restart of the mapmaker nor does it update itself any other time but when you actually press update of place more water.
    *poke*

I have, of course, done that and it doesn't do anything.

What is "water depth" in the water tool? I know what "height" is, but depth has no meaning to me since the water isn't 3-dimensional. It's just a skin that you see from above, so there is no "depth".

Default Depth just means the relative height of the water above the heightmap at the point you place a water spout. Current Level means the absolute elevation above 0 of the currently selected water spout.

So if depth is 2 and height is 10, the place where you put the tap is 8 meters above zero?

Anyway, thanks for all the help, guys. I've decided to completely redo the map from scratch. After becoming more familiar with importing heightmaps, I wanted to trim the map's size anyway because there was way too much unplayable area.

I would caution anyone who is importing a heightmap not to leave the default minimum at zero, but to make it at least 10. I think this is most likely the problem I caused.

use the water edit tool, and rightclick were the gap is (where you want water) by doing this, you are telling the mapeditor you want water at that elevation as well.

i had a similar problem and this took care of it. Good Luck!

    Cheers

I've tried that as well. Water will not go there period, unless you raise the tap so high it floods the rest of the map.

No problem, I'm rebuilding my map and I can use the stamp to reclaim most of my work. Thanks.
