I had a Storm Squad armed with Double Shreck at Vet 1 killing a Croc while the Storms remained at the far end of the flame reach. It kills the Croc and I lost 1 guy. The Croc is perfect now, not stupidly OP but when upclose it can do significant damage while from a distance you can kill it pretty easily without taking too much casualities.Storms IMO SEEM better 'cause croc range got nerfed, adding to their survivability.
"Great! More old farts for the stomach battalion!"
"It was either the Iron Cross or the Wooden Cross."
I agree; the croc still insta-toasted 3 guys from a gren squad last night, but it also didn't kill ridiculously fast in other cases. It still has the potential to do significant damage, but charging it at 4 shreks is no longer a viable option.
The problem I do see is that not it is not THAT much better than shermans as AI -- though it is still significantly better. Thus, it may phase out of the metagame again.
Well I played 2 games tonight and didn't notice a huge difference from before. Crocs are a bit easier to kill and Blitz isn't quite as good. However both were against the AI since I couldn't get a game in the online lobby. All the improvements in the world to the balance and gameplay will make sod all difference to me if I can't actually get a game. A screen full of red crosses in the ping column is making me turn off and play other games.
It seems to me that Relic still has some work to do; the game could still use some optimization for hardware. Anyway, the 1.60 patch seems a step forward in some places and a step backwards in others the Allies have taken a hit in effectiveness because of this last patch while the Axis seem to have gotten a boost in a few areas. The crocodile is even more worthless now because of its decreased damage and range. It hardly ever gets built because of its high fuel cost and the more effective alternatives to the crocodile. I don’t think the Allies and Axis should be mirror images of each other that wouldn’t be any fun but Relic could do a better job of balancing while keeping game-play unique in my opinion.
Can some people please stop saying that the Croc is garbage and that Airborne is now uttertrash... Jeez...they WERE TOO GOOD before TOO GOOD. They are now...good. The Croc is still good but not ridiculously OP...The Airdropped AT-Gun was way too cheap before...now the cost is fine.

Man that's a good laugh. Please refrain from posting until you play axis a bit more, and then play allies after that a bit more.

BUT, the Croc really is a niche unit. You really SHOULDN'T see it that often. Shermans are what you should see often.
Liberalism: death of logic
In my twiddlings as a casual player I found myself reaching for Blitzkrieg instead of Defensive, my previous favourite, so I could pull a Stuh out of the bag. The lower MP cost has helped and I always end up squandering Stormtroopers anyway (shite player here).
Anyway, just the average crap player's first impressions!
No sir, I don't play mods like that. I always play the original games.Bota99,
Were you playing against AI Mod AI? I've noticed that AI Mod AI likes to spam StuH42s under 1.6. Warnstaff needs to change the Mod to adjust for the doctrine changes.
Latest version of this mod is kicking ass. I'm betatesting it so believe me when I tell you that Warnstaff made good job with this one. I found my self sweating more than once against the AI and I'm playing CoH since beta. Were you playing against AI Mod AI? I've noticed that AI Mod AI likes to spam StuH42s under 1.6. I generally stay away from mods also, but I would highly recommend you get this mod. Warnstaff's AI Mod takes it up a BIG notch! And it makes you wonder why Relic didn't make these adjustments to the AI. I'm really looking forward to Warnstaff's post-1.6 release of the mod. And, if you try it, I guarantee you'll thank me for the recommendation, but more importantly you'll thank Warnstaff (and co-creator Fenwe) for this wonderful mod.No sir, I don't play mods like that. I know I will not be playing COH anymore until they even it up more. This patch made the Germans way to powerful. They were too powerful in my opinion before this patch. Now it is totally outragous. I think someone forgot the Allies should have more resources if they are going to make the German weapons that much more powerful. They have screwed the game up totally now. I will bet they will lose a ton of players online now until they even it out some. It amazes me why they cant make this thing more realistic. Allies more resources and Germans more powerful...
What are you talking about? The community concensus before this was that the Allies were overpowered, now the Axis are overpowered? Not THAT much was changed in this patch.
Yes, I agree, American weapons are too weak. BAR rifles get massacred by Axis infantry. M10s absolutely suck balls compared to StuGs. Panzer Ivs kill infantry and tanks better than an upgunned sherman, Axis veterancy blows away Allied veterancy, the Axis ATs and HMGs are so powerful they don't NEED ap rounds like the Allies, the Allies are WAY more munition dependent than Axis...I know I will not be playing COH anymore until they even it up more. Do I need to go on?
1.6 is more balanced than any other version of the game. So far though, it seems that the variety took a hit. Looks like only a couple strategies are viable on both sides
Still, this is the best patch we've had since 1.3.
How about we wait for 2 weeks before using the "O" word and the "T P" phrase, kay? That will give us time to think up new tactics and combinations so we can then accurately say rather or not one side is actually overpowered or not
Everyone wants to play Axis now Now I have to play random all the time!
OK, everybody who is crying about the Stuh going the way of the nebel needs to calm down. Here is am AMAZING replay with a very rare loss for Golradaer. Stuh's not only see the light of day, but win the game. So even against the BEST allied player, stuh are a viable option.
As for nonexperts. I am not a very good player at all, but I used stuhs in two games, once against infantry where it wtfpwn'd, and once more against Air where I managed to destroy supply depo in base rush, slowing first sherman.
So stop whinning and go try it out...
Demonic, most, if not all, Allied players will be doing Armor doctrine strategies while Axis players will be doing T2/Def or Blitz strategies.
Airborne won't be used much (if at all in high play) and infantry will stay as dead as it has been. Terror won't get much light, especially with the nerf to Zeal (although, you should be retreating 1 man squads...). Defensive might be seeing more playtime, but I think it's lack of mobility and lack of comeback ability will really damper it's use in most high-level games. Blitz will probably be the doctrine of choice again due it's versatility in handling most any situation.
I am inclined to think Axis is overbalanced. So far I've seen Axis engys kill Allied engys in a faceoff, Axis Volks kill Allied MG in a building, never getting pinned. Seems wrong.
Also, Allied tank killer is slow as molasses, it lost its nimble advantage.
Replay? So far I've seen Axis engys kill Allied engys in a faceoff
Last night I played a LONG, annihilation game (3+hrs) (against 2 easy axis) Got to use pretty much all the units in the allies and faced pretty much all the axis units, at different levels of veterancy.
It was a fun game, but the one problem I have is the Axis Pak. Okay forget using any form of Panzer, just make AT guns and you will destroy ANYTHING! and you just can't kill these guys off!
Two Calliope fire missions and it's ONLY down 30%!?!?! A Croc loses 60% of is life just to get in range. Then it takes 3 bursts to kill it off. And the Uber Pershing needs 4 shots to knock it out, (If it doesn't pack up and move away)?!
? What is the correct unit to use against a Pak?
[BTW: Why doesn't the Pershing have a MG Upgrade?]
Oh and I was defeated...

The correct unit to use against a Pak is infantry but truth be told the thing is a joke. It is only good for motor pool units as every allied tank is able to kill a Pak with no problem or get away from it.
Hell most of the times I have used it my shells tend to bounce off of Pershings.
I personally enjoy watching the shells it fires bouncing out off of a M10.
Also get closer with your Calliope that thing rapes infantry which hurts alot since Axis is so infantry focused.
"Stormtroopers gave me the rank I have today." Omar
Why? It's not remarkable. It happens now and then, even in completely neutral situations. It happens often enough if the pios have any advantage. In any case, no changes were made there...Replay?So far I've seen Axis engys kill Allied engys in a faceoff
From the posters sentence I gathered a faceoff implying equal grounds for both. That is no silly things like Pios killing Engineers that were laying wire/capping points. It happens often enough if the pios have any advantage.
Going back to the change with wire, it completely changes the Vire fight. It's far easier to hold open a bridge at the beginning, because usually you're wiring it under fire and now you'll die if you don't stop wiring and shoot back. The player farthest from each bridge will have to delay capping resources to get enough firepower to the bridge to drive off the opponents' engies/pios. Gives the map some freshness, for now.
Infantry, mortor crews, snipers, P47 strafe, Engineers with flamethrower, flank with crock, flank with sherman, calliope, or combos of any of those.. hmmm I am sure their are a few more ways than those too. What is the correct unit to use against a Pak?
Crocs are the best anti-AT weapon.
So who wants to take bets on when 1.7 is due out?
Sweet on the 2.102.... Going to love the increased BAR damage. I really hope it helps with the stats problem too. All of my games i have played ranked or unranked for the past couple of weeks have not showed up at all on my stats. What a relief if it will....Thanks....
