The Horus Heresy Campaign Single Player Mod. Relaunched and Revamped!
As a result of resurfacing interest in the single player campaign for the Horus Heresy, here’s a new thread with updated information, and a little bit of clarification concerning the campaign.
Firstly, -and obviously – this mod is not dead. It has been a little poorly since key team members have had some real life changes, and we’ve suffered some hardware problems – Both Grabnutz and I have fried our respective computers at some point, However, work has progressed. We’ve still been working away in the background and getting things done little by little.
Secondly, we’re only about halfway through what we’d hoped to achieve. We’ve got a lot of the mission maps completed or very close to completion, and we did have some missions finished or virtually finished. However, Games Workshop released their trilogy of books and expanded on the fluff (yay!) but in doing so we needed to rewrite entire missions or be branded fools and ignoramuses(boo!). Rewriting entire missions takes time and effort, and as a result, came as something of a setback. The team drifted apart but the core of the mod is still in place and is still being worked on.
FAQ
1) what will it include? Can I play as the Lion/Russ/guilliman/Corax/Sanguinius etc?
The mod will include all of the Primarchs. At some point you will be able to play as them, or against them. They will only feature in the single player missions as part of the Horus Heresy Story, and as such we will be fiercely defending any models that appear and attempting to keep them a single player only. It would rapidly become farcical to have four sanguiniuses slugging it out in skirmish. There is no way Primarchs will be featuring in multiplayer so don’t keep asking.
2) Which missions will be included? How much of the story is going to be covered?
The missions will take the key battles of the Horus Heresy and include some of the iconic fights that form part of the legendary backstory. You will be able to fight on Calth, Prospero, the moon of Davin, Mars and Terra – and the heroes of these fights will be featured in all of the necessary places.
3) How accurately will you be sticking to the fluff/Backstory? I saw the demo and there were some things that were wrong! Garro never fought on the planet for example…
The fluff will be adhered to as much as possible, but there will be some flexibility to improve the gameplay. By this I mean that the Sons of Horus fighting on Davin’s Moon could for example, lose the mission if they become separated from their guide as they trudge through the stinking fetid forest. We all know the SM don’t get lost, but it’s one of the objectives and represents the story, while improving the playability of the mission. The Backstory is not going to be a big metal ruler we smack each other with when something isn’t quite right and although the backstory will form a big part of the mod, if adhering to the fluff means the gameplay suffers then we’re going to alter it a little without being entirely blasphemous about things that are considered ‘canon’. After all, the siege of the Imperial palace lasted for years and I’ve got other things to do!

BACKSTORY RESEARCH THREAD
Can I play as Horus/The Emperor?
This is top secret. By this I mean no-one knows yet, as Grabnutz and I have not agreed on something yet. It’s so top secret even the mod leaders don’t know. The two great protagonists will be a part of the Mod, but whether it’s as cutscene actors or playable warriors is yet to be seen.
What about Titans?
Titans will probably feature in the mod, and will be treated exactly the same as the primarchs. They will not be available in skirmish and will not feature in multiplayer.
Can I beta test?

I’m going crazy for this mod and want to help – I’ve got some great ideas!
If I had a pound for every PM I got like this, I’d have about 387 quid. Seriously, we have ideas spewing out of our brains and we cannot take on board any more. If you really want to help we need someone who can unwrap models in MAX and get them into the OE, or someone who can teach me how to do it real quick. We’ve got some models ready to go, but no-one to get things into the OE and in-game. It’s demoralising for the modeller – Left Wing – and irritating for me. This is the only real area that we need help in at the moment.

On another note, for those of you hugging yourselves in frustration that there is no multiplayer aspect, you can get loads of multiplayer goodness from the Horus Heresy Mutliplayer mod, which is independent to this mod. They’ll be putting a load of cool stuff into multiplayer, so check out their thread for some cool models and information.
Finally, A request – As some of you will probably have figured out, it’s pretty confusing having two mods with very similar names, people get linked to the wrong thing and we’re often found answering questions on each others behalf. The Multiplayer guys answer questions for us, and we do so for them. Confusing isn’t it?
I’d really like to rename this mod (the Horus Heresy Campaign Mod) To something that let’s people know what the mod is about, without creating even more confusion. It will help both mod teams if we can be named something that indicates the single player story.
Remember, Galaxy in Flames is already taken (I think) As is Depth of Heresy, and Dawn of Heresy.
So, suggestions for this mod’s name? Anyone?
