    Smoothing/Lighting Problem....

Ok guys, I've hit a little snag on my Omega destroyer. Let me show you....

At the top of the rotating section and the supports next to it. I'm exporting the OBJs from 3DS Max 9 and importing them into Maya 6.5.

I've tried both averaging and setting to face the normals in Maya but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Anyone seen this before? Got any ideas?

I saw something like this when doing the Maya 7 orb tutorial. When I finished making the details on the top cap, the trench, the shading decided to go crazy. When I set the face to normals the shading got fixed.

Don't average the normals! Instead, use a smoothing of max. 60 or 90 (180 would almost give the same results as averaging normals)

Don't average normals huh? Thanks. Not sure how to set a specific setting for it, but I'll figure that out.

There's a "box-like" thingy to the right of the menu (where it's about to end). Clicking that will pop-up the specific settings for the tool\command\whatever it is.
