    The Community Content Initiative

I am launching The Community Content Initiative in order to benefit the Company of Heroes Mod development community with content that can be used by mod developers to create unique content for a wide variety of projects; this thread will make available new content for modelers who wish to add additional custom content to their projects.

There will be new content added regularly for use as a community resource to encourage new mods and contribute to their work for the improvement of all mod projects that can benefit from the custom content made available for download. Feel to use any content that you download for your mod the only requirement is that you make available any improvements to the models for use by others so that everyone gets an opportunity to benefit from the talents which you have contributed. below is the download link to some of the models that have been made avalible to modelers so far:

Hi, hnunez, your idea is just awesome!

And this is Sdkfz 251/9 "Stummel" model that I've done using in game model of Sdkfz 251/1. It has only 4750 polygons, approximately the same amount that default ingame model uses. Maybe you can add it to download page?

Cool website man. I bet itll help a load of mods get started out.

BTW, you might want to try adding the modders name beside his contribution. EG: Tiger II by: skyward
It would help the mod teams in giving credit to the various people responsible for contributing their stuff.

Great idea although I don't think it'll really work out without any preview images.

People want to know what they download and how good it truly looks.

  9. #9
@foxbat171 yes you may add your model to the download just send me an email and ill tell you how to get your item listed and ill get it posted.

@Applehead yes you are right people deserve credit for their work some of the models that have been donated will be listed with their proper developers others where omitted at the request of the contributor. any person who submits their material will always get proper credit for their work and the project will we showcased where possible with screenshots.

@unknown yes you are right ill will be working this week on posting some screenshots for the content that is avalible for download but it will take some time, there are new submittons that need to be posted and they create a big backlog of work, but i will definitely make it happen.

    Great Job Foxbat171!!!

Today we are showcasing a new set of models which have been contributed by a very talented modeler who has been kind enough to allow the community content initiative the privilege making his models available for download. Great Job Foxbat171 these models are awesome you had a great idea making these particular variants of the SdKfz 251 series. They will add greater diversity to the game and create new tactical options that will fit well into Company of Heroes. We look forward to seeing more of your work hosted here in the future.

Great Job foxbat171 your latest model is wonderful. as always your work on the latest model is top notch. On this this particular model you have done a great job, I like the oustanding detail work you have done.I think this model complements company of heroes particularly well because the germans could use a nice powerful assault gun for final tier in game mayham.

Actually it's more powerfull than Brummbar, because Brummbar had 150mm howitzer as main gun and Sturmtiger had 380mm mortar/rocket launcher(~100kg of explosives in one shot). And ofcourse Sturmtiger is better armored than Brummbar.

  21. #21

    what do you think?

Well my friend lets take a poll survey on a question im debating. should the allied airborne tree be the most powerful in the artillery Support weapons tree or should some other allied tree get the most powerful artillery?

Well to put it simply, these can't be used in mods yet, not just because they lack any form of animations but one simple fact to point out, I don't recall any of them being skinned, creating the mesh for the most part is the easy part, the UV mapping and skinning not so much, well not hard just time consuming, but at least the models exist, so when we will be finally able to implement then ingame that part will already be done for us.

i dont want to sound rude here but wouldnt a a site or ur own be better for this community idea u have? i mean dont the files on these sites get deleted after a while.. but pls correct me if i am wrong

    Known Model Issues

this thread is for mod developers that want to include some new content in the form of the models into Company of Heroes, where possible some of the models have been skinned but i have been in discussions with both halftrack and blacklabel to get their participation with skinning/UV mapping on some of the models which are not currently skinned, however they are currently busy with their own projects so it may be a little while before we see some of their contributions.

This thread is devoted to providing the baseline models, other mod developers are going to have to step up to the task of implementing animations as some of the models dont have any animations and require the mod developers to implement their own animations (the modding community is currently waiting on the relics release of the official coh mod-tools) that way developers can port their .3ds max project animations into the model import script and then finally get the new model in game. This method has several advantages, it gives developers a baseline model (which saves most mod teams time) and gives them the flexibility to implement their own animations and skinning/UV work in their mods.

that may unfortunately mean that some mods may develop units from these models and might choose not to share their work, which in my opinion is unproductive and contrary to the spirit of community particapation. Since i can't dictate to others what they can and cant do with the models once they have downloaded them its up to the individual mod teams to decide whether they will make available any modified files that include either skinning/UV mapping, or animations added to the current models.

In an ideal world everyone would contribute to the greater good and find satisfaction in helping others for the mutual benefit of all, as always those who contribute will always get credit and have their work showcased. I always urge everyone to please continue to show their support and help keep this community alive and growing through their contributions and comments.

and to be honest, I dont see some of the models being textured yet, because
they all lack most of the information needed, like uvw, and in most cases are high resolution meshes wich have to be converted to lowpoly with quite high efforts (current Jagdpanther f.e.) . I think its best to contribute models from the
different mods, like if anyone has done a working(!!) model for a mod, he should contribute it to the modding community. We dont have to do everything twice or three times... and then, of course, its much easier to skin that or provide different skin sets for a tank...f.e.

  27. #27

    Community Support

As of right now, i tried to get the developer from the 3dsMax Models by:Skyward to post his models here but he rejected the idea and wanted to focus on his efforts alone, and because i did not want to be either annoying or impertinent i decided that it would be best to leave him to his own project and wish him the best. As for me and the issue of the UV/Wrapping i would love to have my own team of monkeys that i could shake a stick at and get some of these models animated and UVW'd however right now its just me and just getting material which can be made avalible for public consumption is demanding enough while I work on a campaign for other mods...

I will however promise to keep searching the web over and keep making new content avalible, next week you can look foward to seeing some new weapon files which i will be making avaliable for the Norway Vs. Sweden as well as other Company of Heroes mods; And to address public concerns over the skinning issue i will make sure that where possible the downloads include skins and UV/Wrappings.

So keep dropping in and checking the thread for new updates and best wishes to halftrack and blacklabel on their latest endevour with the battle of the bulge mod.

    What happened to the webpage?

It does not appear to exist anymore...

If anyone has any of the modern day models still could they upload them hear?

    Or send them to me?

This was a really good idea...

This is a thread worthy of revival. Seems Hnunez is still around too.

Now that we finally are able to add new vehicles and weapons ingame, does anyone know just how many of these models still exist? The link in the first post is dead, but it'd be great if a lot of the vehicles and weapons can still be retrieved.

There's a number of Sdkfz251 variants showcased above, at least some of which i reckon could have their crew issue resolved with some careful model mixing with the Sdkfz250.

    SdkFz 251/2 and SdkFz 251/9 3D models

They will add greater diversity to the game and create new tactical options that will fit well into Company of Heroes. the community content initiative looks forward to seeing your work hosted here in the future you can download the models from the link below:
