This is the army i will be buying i have none of it but the codex. I am looking to spend around £100 this week to get started, i have no glue or paints so need to buy them. I intend to use the £12 dark angels box and the sm tac box but use the DA miniture wherever possible.

what do you guys advise i buy on a £100 budget?

    Cheers and thank you.

Sounds more like a thread for strat to be honest. Some notes on the intended playstyle and opponents would also be pretty helpful.

edit: I misread the thread, thinking you wanted to expand the current force, rather than select elements of the current list to purchase. Moving back to GD.

For starters, you'll want to get the required units for a standard Force Organization Chart (FOC). You'll need 1 HQ and 2 Troops. Buy those, paint them up, and you'll have a force ready to play.

After that, it really is up to you. It's not recommend to buy everything before painting, because that will leave you with a lot of models you may never get to. Plus, during the course of gaming you might develop certain tactics that may make some of your unit choices obsolete, and then you are left with an unpainted model you will never use.

That said, you have a choice in each section of the FOC, which will probably give you a lot of flexibility. Start with the HQ and 2 Troops, paint them, then pick one of the other sections. Buy just that squad, paint them, play them. Do it one-by-one, one at a time, and you'll not only see the strengths and weaknesses of each unit, but you'll also get an opportunity to watch your army (and painting skills) grow.

As CancerMan said, buying a TON of models at once that you have to paint is EXTREMELY overwhelming....I started my latest guard force back at the beginning of the Eye of Terror campaign years ago (3 yrs? I don't remember exactly) and just finished painting that first 1000 points of the force last June....Now I'm pretty lazy for starters, but it is also overwhelming when you have big squads and vehicles...
So yeah, stick with your 1 HQ choice and 2 troops choices for starters, and go from there. Also as Ap0k mentioned, if you have specific info on possible opponent forces then you could go over to the Strategy section to look into possible small starter additions as well.

ok. i think ill go for the following

Normal Chaplain (ill use him at 2000 points and the termie one isnt needed atm, i earn enough to not worry bout cost)

    2x Dark angels box

    1x sm tac squad

    thats £48

i then intened to get glue spray and 10 paints comming in at £78.

I may also buy a rhino to boost it to £96

kinda expensive for 2x troops + HQ :/

ebay can be your friend. I've never actually bought any 40k stuff from ebay, however I have looked around and seen some pretty good deals. I once almost bid on a Skaven Warp Lightning Cannon, brand spanking new, for $10...however I was going through some financial issues at the time, and my g/f said she'd kill me if I bid on the damn thing hehe...never saw it re-auctioned sadly....
So yeah take a look on ebay...it's not always used stuff, and you can generally find the occasional gem...just watch the damn S&H...so many ppl like selling brand new russes for $20, with a $20 S&H....

this covers all my troops choices and amounts to 30 models + ~600 points.

Lots of painting for me :/

i got glue and spray but wont buy paints till i make all my models. Tonibht i got in and just made my 3 (robed) vet searges.

30 marines is an excellent start to an army and should keep you busy modelling, painting and playtesting while you get your feet wet in this hobby of ours.
