When I just try to create a new map for DOW: DC it comes up with "could not intialize remaining engine features" what does this mean and how can I fix it?

im getting "the selected file is outside all known scenario folders. The Mission Editor can only edit files that are under the root folder. Root: C:\ Program Files\THQ\DawnofWar - DarkCrusade File: C:\ Program Files\THQ\DawnofWar - DarkCrusade\DXP2\Data\scenario\MP\test.dgb"

anyone know how i can fix this?

The problem is a very simple one. It concerns the texture stamping. The stamping is saved in the <mapname>.tga You will notice that when you make a new map it already have basic stamping, sort of cloudy effect. Thats how the tga image initially looks like. If the stamping is solid pink it means the TGA is MISSING. Either you deleted it or didn't extract it from the sga file.

In order to return to the default stamping just create another map and change the name of it's tga. Then it will refer to your current map.

Hi I really need some help. My Mission editordoesnt even let me create a new map.

It says "could not intialize remaining engine features" and the the debugging window behind comes up with "Unknown starting enitiy blueprint" then the name of a race and something from the game. Please, Please help me, I want to make my own maps soo much, but I dont know whats causing this. I have reinstalled the DOW DC tools 1.2 so many times that I have lost count, I have also redownloaded them from places, incase the file was corrupt, but it still dosen't work! please please can you help me, it is so frustrating!!

It also says after I have tried to open a map sometimes this as well: could not load selected mod dll (dxp2)! could you guys please help me!!!

Also when I close it a box comes up with: Sorry W40kME.exe has encountered a error. In the error log it always says this:W40kME.exe caused an Access Violation in module SimEngine.dll. But I have no Idea what this means!

I just had the same problem where everything had a pink tint, and I found an answer to fix it up (works for me anyway), I had put my map in the dark crusade folders under dxp2/data/scenarios/mp however my dark crusade has another folder where it says W40k, I simply moved it to W40k/data/scenarios/mp and I can still play it in DC, and it doesn't have the pink tint, but to edit the map I have to move it back to the dxp2/data/scenarios/mp in which case it has the pink tint.

er sorry, bit confusing there, in other words, dxp2/data/scenarios/mp, in that folder tree (for me anyway this may not be the case for other people) it has the pink tint, in W40k/data/scenarios/mp it doesn't.

Hope this helps anyone who encounters the same problem

and this is all in the dark crusade directory by the way, sorry if I'm confusing anyone. Bit rushed, I'm rather busy.

To save maps you have to save them to the mp folder in dark crusade. The route for this should be DC-DXP2-data-scenarios-mp.
To change the height of objects hold shift and left click... or right click.... I can never remember. Either way, one wll rotate the object, the other adjust the height.

i still cant get it to save. ive got vista does tht have anything to do with it u think?

You can also save it in the DOW DC directory under W40K/data/scenarios/mp, but you won't be able to load them in the ME and edit them.

This -might- help but I doubt it.

Vista could be part of the problem, although I don't have a clue about that sort of thing, so it could have absolutely nothing to do with it either for all I know.
Past what I've already said I can't help.
    Best of luck fixing it.

How do you create maps on Dawn of war DC? all I can choose from is 'My_mod' and 'Dawn of War'

By saving to the DXP2 folder do you mean directly? If so then that's your problem. You need to save to this directory: DXP2/data/scenarios/mp. If you don't have any of those folders then create them accordingly

No, I know where to save it to, but I cant open the map editer in DoW DC mode, so I cant use DC models, effects etc... when you open the map editer and click new, a window comes up with map size and which game you want to use. thats where I want to put DC but I only have DoW.

This might sound like I'm being blunt and stating the obvious but I think that it needs to be asked... Have you DC installed? I'm not too sure about anything technical so at the moment that's the best that I can come up with.

What Mod Tools are you using? They should be in the DC directory already.

    1.2 DC Mod Tools
    (Retired)
Tool - Relic Audio Converter (for DoW1)
Tool - Dawn of War 2 Mod Launcher

Great job Finally I finished my map.

But there is a problem with another map. I tried to use stairs (Object Placement-->environment-->singleplayer-->ms07-->temple_stairs_01) but they're not solid and units are "inside" in object if i will order them to go on stairs

How to make those stairs solid? Units can't climb up I can make a ramp or something by impass, but i would like to use normal stairs. I think that I've seen normal solid stairs in other maps so maybe that it's possible.

There is no way to make objects soloid in Dawn of War. The only way to have the stairs object in use is to raise the ground up to meet it.
This has been asked many times before, even by myself. Have a look here

I want to thank Sentinel00 for answering everyone's questions while I have been absent (Damn you CoD4!). I have recently bought Soulstorm so expect me to be back when the mod tools come out. Hopefully with some new tutorials on different aspects of map making. Also, thanks for the kind comment Buggo, I feel special

No problem, it just made my lurking around here slightly productive.
Good to hear your back though. Have yet to get SS myself (can't afford it), but will when I can. I don't care much for the game, just want more objects for the ME...

    Help
Hi, i'm trying to get the Mission Editor working but its not letting me make a new blank scenario. Debug window mentions that it fails to open several folders including the archive 'W40k\W40kDataGOTY.sga' All mods i try to load give similar messages. In looking in the program files, these folders do not exist as folders but as files, DXP2Data-SharedTextures-Full.sga for example (it says its looking for the folder: ' DXP2\Data_Shared_Textures\Full'.
    Can you help?
    Thx!

    C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade and;
    C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\ModTools
both are the default locations set by the installers.
    Thanks for the quick response!

So what actually happens? Can you post any of your logs (warnings, warnings1 etc) or put a screenshot of the error.

    Previous problem with ME

Hey guys, i noticed that alot of people are having problems in being able to start a map in ME, unfortunately i have bad news for all you skint people. I tried using ME one day to no avail, same damn error messages in the log that you guys have, a week later i bought a graphics card, fitted it and ME worked. Not sure if this is universal but a half decent Graphics card did the trick for me.

Just to elaborate on minimaps and the green overlay ingame minimap. (This is on another site already linked to on this thread but i thought i'd be helpfull and save you some time.

    Minimap
    --------
    1) In ME take a screenshot of your map.
    2) Paste this screenshot into your favourite graphics program (I recommend GIMP, although its easier in MS paint)
    3) With a selection box select just the playable area of your map
    4) Cut this selection (ctrl+x)
    5) Open a new blank image and paste (ctrl+v) the cut image
    6) Resize the image to 256*256
    7) Save the picture as 24-bit tga without compression in C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\DXP2\Data\scenarios\mp\"name of your map"_mm.tga (Without quotes)

Ok, thats the In Game map sorted now for the in Map selection room map

    Map Selection room minimap
    ---------------------------
    1) Take the image you made for the previous minimap and load into your favourite graphics program (preferably Gimp or photoshop rather then MS paint)
    2) Resize the image to 128*128
    3) Add numbers onto the image in the appropriate starting locations
    4) Save the picture as 24-bit tga without compression in C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War - Dark Crusade\DXP2\Data\scenarios\mp\"name of your map"_icon.tga
    (Without quotes)

    Hope this helps guys.

Gimp is free btw (and imho much better then photoshop)

What do you mean? You can't find how to place start locations? Or is it that you don't know how to set player control on an object?

You find player start locations in the objects menu, under game play.
When you place these they we be assigned to the world, so you'll need to change this to a player.
This option can be found near the top of the objects menu. It'll say world by default, so change it to player one, then place the start loc, then player two for the next, and so on until you have the amount of players you want in the game.
If you already have the locations in, but want to change the player they are assigned to, all you need to do is select them, and change the player as you would normally

I'm sorry nm, I have almost complete with my own custimized map, I alread have criticall locations and all that (in fact, some of my strategic locations are statues, you would know when you see a pic of it).

But how do you get the executable file? It says it needs one to play the scenario, but I'm not quite sure what it is

    Anway great tutorial.

  35. #85
You need to install the map in the folders I said and run it from ingame. Using the play map option in the Worldbuilder won't work.

i have a problem with the transition-decals. i have the right settings and the right decal selected, but when i click on the map, it's like i have the selection tool selected, and nothing happens. am i clicking wrong?(>.<) i suppose you have to drag the mouse entirely over the white snow with some of the rock in it. i feel quite stupid that i have to ask how to click... (note that i'm a total noob and this is the first time i tried making a map)

That's the wrong version of mod tools. They only work with DoW original and WA.

You need to get the DC 1.2 mod tools for Dark Crusade.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean.
Is the terrain painter the texture stamp tool? The ground type tool (as in water, grass, rock) or the actual paintbrush where you paint a colour onto the ground?
The texture stamp will show in game, as will the paint brush colours. The ground type tool will decide what fx the troops have when walking in that area, like a splash, or dust and the like.

it has unknown, rock, sand(something), grass, water
