Help needed with Pause in HW

When I pause Homeworld, issue commands and then unpause it, the commands I gave are supposed to be executed, aren't they. At least that is what I saw in the review on IGN site. Well, it is not happening when I am playing HW. When I pause and give the command, the reply does come from the ships but once I unpause, they just ignore the commands that were issued.

I really want this feature. Can someone help me understand how to activate it...

As per the manual, you cannot issue commands while the game is paused.

Homeworld 2 does allow this apparently.

thanks for ur reply.. i think i must have misunderstood. Probably what u can only do during the pause is assign units and change formations (maybe tactics also). I went and read the sentence very closely at IGN site.

But supposing u need to issue 4-5 commands without too much action taking place when u r doing so, u can do like this: Pause, assign units, understand what command u need to give, unpause, issue the command quickly and pause again.. go to other units, unpause, issue the command quickly and pause again.. and so on...

Let me know what u think of it.. I am rather new to the game (into the 8th mission only).. want to get some tips from pros...

That's a great way to play if you are first learning the game and understanding how the game works. It would allow you to get a feel for the game without being overwhelmed by the interface.

Once you have a good command of the interface and you understand what orders you can do when paused, I suggest trying to play as much of the game as possible unpaused... the flow of the game will be less interrupted at that point.

If you ever try to play online, you won't have the luxury of pausing. So if that's your final goal (to play others online) then it's probably a good idea to learn to play without pausing at all.
