question for Buggo or anyone about dx10

Here's a good topic that I'm curious about. Buggo or anyone in the know, with the DX10 patch in development, I'm curious as to what sorts of challenges are being faced by the dev team while trying to incorprate unified shaders into a dx9 game. I mean is it totally new ground for the devs working with thei new UI? Does DX10 seem to living up to the hype? Would my fish drown in amazement if it saw COH in DX10? Inquiring minds want to know, if possible.

this is something they are keeping under wraps. the people who attended the Relic Open House (it was awesome!) got to see some shots of DX10 COH concept art. it will be worth the wait.

i would imagine it is proving a little difficult because it is taking them a long time to release the patch. as far as i know the DX10 patch has been in the works since before last years GeForce LAN 3 in November where they first talked about COH and DX10. we saw the same DX10 concept shots at the open house as we did at GeForce LAN months before.

A while ago I saw preview screen shots of what DX 10 does in COH and well... I dont remember the link to it. The differece is somewhat noticable... The shadows from people are a lil better (new shadows made from muzzle flashes), theres a lil better looking low grass, and explosions are more bigger and brighter from artillery and muzzle flashes. Its just a shader though... with everything on high and ultra and zoomed out all the way you'll have to really look to see the changes imo.

Will it be possible to run DX10 on an XP machine? Or do you absolutely have to have Vista?

Will the performance (framerate) with the new Direct X 10 effects be the same on a 8800GTX as with everything on high with Direct X 9 due to Direct X 10 using less CPU power and doing more in less cycles?

It is not possible to run dx10 on xp machine, m$ will not support dx10 under xp, so all the gamers go and by vista for the dx10 titles.

Official support for DX10 (from Microsoft and driver companies) will only be (at this time) for Windows Vista.
