"Battle of the Bulge" - recruiting Betatesters -

  1. #1201
You can't call para's to the battlefield. Battle of the bulge -> fog, fog and fog. (and lot's of Panzer divisions of course lol) They intended to do that, because it's historical accurate.

Well the Axis have fallschirmjägers that drop so... or did they removed them, I re-installed CoH and OF so... I don't ahve BotB anymore. Will download it again.

  3. #1203
The Germans made flights, when the Americans didn't. The German Luftwaffe took more risc, but I don't know weither they were dropped from the air.

  4. #1204
It was Operation Strosser(just like the name used doy), Germans paradroped guys, but due to the weather and whatnot, they were dispersed and fought a guerrilla war on their own.

    Tada, it makes sense

    @ Celestial -

It isn't a bug. Some Germans did use allied firearms (and vehcles) during the Batlle of the Bulge. It's a very nice detail in the mod might I add.

Fallschirmjager have a single Sten (based off a photo I have in a book about the BotB) and one of the SS Panzergrenadiers carries a Carbine based off these images from the BotB:

    http://www.gewehr43.com/battle7.html

We implemented this to add some diversity, to portray minor things in the BotB that we do have historical reference on.
While most FSJ wouldn't be carrying a Sten around, I found it interesting and decided to implement that to reflect that sometimes they did pick up enemy Weaponry.
Other examples of this would be with character uniforms; not every Waffen SS Machine Gunner wore a captured US raincoat, but Halftrack skinned him as such because it's one of our best references from the BotB, as well as being from a very popular photo.

    Who me? oh Argentina
German paratroopers used .45 Pistols, M13 Greaseguns, .30 CAL Machineguns.. not sure if some .50 CAL HMG.... thompsons... and more stoled weapons.

  12. #1212
hehe, what if infantry had the ability to scavenge ammo from injured or dead troops

Heres a thought, can a sight 'bubble' be implemented? I don't know how a squad can see the other side of buildings and hedgerows, but it ruins some of thefun of the game. I think infantry shouldnt be able to see behind such things, and maybe tanks can have no sight what so ever behind them, and that you can upgrade a tank with the gunner for the greater purpose of keeping an eye out for enemys behind

Uh...I have a slight problem. I Unrar'ed all the files in my Company of Heros folder, and followed all the instructions. But when I play it, all the new models and skins are replaced by blue boxes. I have no idea why this is. Any Ideas?

Wow, guys, this mod looks excellent. After having just finish a Battle of the Bulge match using the board game produced by Avalon Hill (I lost ), I'm in the mood to take that theme to CoH and download this.

One question, however: Does it work on Gold Edition? I only own the Gold Edition of the game, which includes CoH and OF. And if so, what should I download? The CoH version or the OF demo? Thanks!

The Of version methinks seeing as I assume you have it fully patched.

there is no OF demo. Both versions work with normal CoH, one version is for
the 1.71 patch of CoH, the other for CoH 2.301.
As you have installed the Gold esition, you should prefer the newer one, for 2.301

I downloaded, but I'm having troubles using it. I created a shortcut to the specified file, and I get a little popup when I click it, saying something about "This file created with Quick Patch Compiler..." blah blah blah, some quick disclaimer with no relevance to the mod, and ends with a "Press any key to continue"

So I press the key, and another sentence pops up right before the window promptly closes. It reads "blink.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file."

I have... no idea what that means.

I think so. I extracted them all to my CoH folder... Documents -> My Games - > Company of Heroes is where Vista installed it.

Sounds like the wrong place... should probably be Program Files\THQ\Company of Heroes, and not My Documents (which is where Saved Games go).

Yes, when you install CoH or OF, it installs it on two places.
The "Ingame" files are located in: ProgramFiles\THQ\Company of Heroes and the SaveGames, maps for online play (.sga format) and screenshots etc. will be in MyDocuments\MyGames\CompanyofHeroes.

Huh. Very strange. That explanation certainly makes sense to me, but I can't seem to find a Company of Heroes directory outside of the MyGames one. I see my THQ folder very clearly (it's where I keep my beloved Dawn of War... ), and no Company of Heroes. Should I just try reinstalling CoH? And, if so, would reinstalling screw up my save games or anything?

I'll no doubt reinstall either way just to set things right if possible, I just wanted to hear if anything might be lost, because I certainly don't feel like losing all of my medals just when I almost got all of them.

If you remove CoH and OF from you computer, the install shield wizard will ask if you want to remove saved games, your account etc. So don't worry. I should try to re-install CoH and OF and full patch it.

Well this is strange. I uninstalled (and noticed the 'remove save games, etc.' you guys assured me about) without a hitch, and then reinstalled it just as well. Still no Company of Heroes program in my Files -> THQ; just the MyGames one.

It's doubly confusing becuase I've been playing the campaigns, skirmishes, and even multiplayer (automatch and otherwise) without any troubles that could be attributed to this. It seems the folder would exist, Vista just refuses to show it or something.

I'm still somewhat new to Vista having bought a system with Home Premium 64 bit recently. On my system, the THQ folder is in Program Files (x86). Have you looked there?

Ah! I found it. That was extremely strange. I feel stupid I didn't see it before, but it seems Vista was deliberately hiding it from me because it never came up in any searches and wasn't in the start menu -> all programs menu either, but it was in the THQ files as you said once I went digging. I'm sure it sounds pathetic to you guys, but it was strange to me, a simple gamer who doesn't usually need to go into file locations to find his games like that.

As soon as I've got it all patched I'll install the mod and see how it goes.

EDIT: Yes! I moved the BoTB files from the MyGames folder to their correct location, and the mod is running great. So far, it's an excellent mod. I love the new command trees, units, and the randomized models are very nice. The way everything is covered in snow definitively gets across the frigid atmosphere.

Thanks a ton for the help guys, and thankyou for this terrific mod!

I think he means the progress of the upcoming update

Well, atm its ALMOST finished, I am still busy with work and my private computer
does need a windows reinstallation , which I dont have the time for right now,
to do the last small bugfixes, which arent really so many.. would be just a matter of days from there on...

  39. #1239
What's new/fixed in the new update?

sooo many things, I mentioned most of them... but ok, once again...:

    - lots of Bugfixes, lots of Balancing changes

Camping AI on several maps is eliminated
    AI uses mobile Arty better
Changed lots of prices, decreased No of most Offmap units.

    Most important Gameplay changes:

    - New Visibility system, moving units have less visibility than standing ones or thoese in cover.
It is even planned to make visibility weather dependant.

    - New veterancy. All vet is based on real life stats ( accuracy, rate of fire etc )
Special abilities can be gained, like counterbattery fire for Artillery.

-No more fireup for individual units, can only be triggered by a Command unit nearby

-Automatic Territory Capture (by AGAmeAnx) is now included.
Now the territory is captured by the faction which has more soldiers inside.

    - New armour / Tank Gun system, Tanks/ATs do more damage and can even inflict
    one shot kills now.
Turret rotation speed and rate of fire have been altered towards historical correct values.

    - AT Guns buffed. Can now ambush, have higher range and crushing is more limited.

    - Urban Combat: Units in houses become invisible up to 20ms, garrisoned units
are now also able to use grenades, fausts, stickes and other abilities.

    - Tank Upgrades are now only available near a repair station, infantry upgrade
near a HQ or Forward HQ.

    - Rally points can be built, where you can retreat your troops to.

Minor graphical changes, like icons, more snow details, Para helmets and a FW 190 model.

Aight! I just love this mod so much, so much realism.
HT, I just would love so much if you would make a Jagdtiger...
(you can animate you other models by the way).

Edit: The the Sherman E8 can shoot my 88's down in most times 1 shot while the 88 itself (much stronger gun thet the 76mm of the Sherman) has to shoot 2 or 3 times rarely 1. I think that's kidda unrealistic, the same is with the Tiger gun vs. the E8

    Hello guys.

First, thx a lot for your work, it seems amzing !

I made a lot of research but do not find anything for my problem.

I extract "battle of the Bulge" directly in my COH's file and start the game.

Got the intro, returned on the windows' desk and the mod started.
Went on "Skirmish" and can choose the options I want to play with. Here is the problem : The "Start Skirmish" button still grey and is not clickable.

Made a full reinstall but still not work.

Thx a lot by advance for your help.

I had the same problem. Try this: Activate your vanilla coh with the serial in the Opposing Fronts main menu.

any idea of adding the british in with there infantry tanks an emplacements i favor there infantry and some times the Cromwell=)

also if any one has noticed or any one has teh ability too.. you know if you shorten the FireFly Barrel.. and take off teh radio box in back or some home make it invisible you would have the Commonwealth M4A4 Sherman 75mm.

You can't jsut shorten off the barrel, you could skin it away, but then the shell would come out of the air. And with very few people that know how to use the OE...... And the British have some units in BotB, You can call in the firefly, cromwell and infantry section.

  46. #1246
i was jsut suggesting cause if trhe brits were added in instead of giving them the M4A3 the americans use they use the M4A4 and the M4A1 shermans predominatly.. mostly the M4A4. i nkwo there call in able but what about buildable?

i love the mod but will there ever been like an ability to make your guy's own models such as like teh M24 or a new tank completly andf place it in game?

  47. #1247
Ask relic. They are the ones supposedly working on the OE release.

  48. #1248
hopefully it will come soon, i love this mod and i wanna see more outa it =)

I don't think the British played much of a role in the battle. If the team wants to keep it more or less historically accurate, and I believe that is their intention, I would doubt you would see them as buildable. You might want to read both the first post in this thread and the .pdf file included with the download.

right, they wont be an own faction in the mod, especially not with all those emplacement stuff.
