thats just what you can get out of actual models skins... imagine, how things would look with communities models... real coats, and equipment, proper vehicles, camouflage etc....

You know what would be cool? The American soldiers with a long skirt (dunno how they call that in English) that would be cool.

I notice you've put the Krupp turret on the Koenigstiger - I love you.

For some reason, every game designer on Earth who has implemented the Koenigstiger into their game (except for those who made Theatre of War) has used the Porsche turret on the Koenigstiger. This makes about no sense, considering that the Porsche turret was fitted to a very, very finite amount of King Tigers produced.

A 1.71 version would be awesome, Halftrack. Me and my buddies haven't changed over to the newest patch since we don't have OF and we're big fans of the Normandy 44 mod (which currently only works with the 1.71 patch anyways). We use Hamachi to hook up for LAN games so we can run any patch we like. We've been tracking your mod's progress and we're excited about it. Hope you're ready to release it soon.

@Skyward: Hey, nice to see you... no, of course no animations yet,
until we dont have any tool do do them... moan.
I am afraid for 1.71 I will use the Porscheturret version, although I love your
    Production Turret Kingtiger much more...

    King Tiger

Your model is exquisite. Either the Henschel or Prosche turrets were used. However, the Porsche turret allowed for too much hull penetration as its angle deflected the incoming rounds down on to the driver's compartment. This meant that once production started the Henschel (sloped turret) was used. Realism would dictate that our models should not include the Porsche turret, but your work is so good that I'm certain no one will mind. BTW - love that maus!

    Cheers

    Certainly caming along nicely...

In the first post, the lefthand side picture.

That picture of the German, is just so famous.
It's used in many WW2 docs I have seen.
I even believe that pic was used to model 1/35th scale figure set.
The Henschel turret would be the one to go with.

    Well done to all involved.
    Excellent work.

It's not so much that the front of the Porche turret deflected rounds down into the drivers compartment (doubt it would penetrate), but that enemy shells would often get deflected down to get wedged down in the turret ring between the turret and the hull and jam the turret in place, effectively screwing the crew and their tank in combat. The crew had to get away from the front, get out with a hammer and chisel, and bash the damn thing out of the way, and that could take a while too.

Both turrets are Krupp made, though the early one was thought to be made by Porsche. The production turret is the one we see on the tank .

In my humble opinion the Porsche turret looks prettier, the tank crews of the period might not agree though.

A tank does not need to look pretty in a war, jst look how ugly the t-34-76 is... and still it does an good job.

And as stated above the Porsche turret has its disadvantages.

Well actually i like the looks of the T-34-76. I used to like the the Churchill too, unit a brit AI in my last game spammed both Churchill and Churchill Croc to infinity, and eventually the horde laid waste to my infantry group, the light assault group i had in reserve, and the bunker and Pak38 at my defensive line, while my Tiger an two panthers were laying waste their undefended base on the opther side of the map! The panthers were on a sliver of health and i didn't want to lose them, and my tiger couldn't catch them.

Back on topic, I think the Porche turret looks prettier too, but in my opinion most things that people call ugly i like, eg. M3 Grant, Cromwell, Avery german vehicle ever in existence, etc.

It's totally understandable to switch to working king tiger. However It's nice to hear that you would prefer my tank over the relic one

I would like to clarify that the king tiger model was made from scratch far before we ever saw first images of the relic one. Incase it wasn't already obvious.

Hehe, thanks. It's quite useless gameplay wise, but it was great fun to make as a learning project.

PS. Before i derail the thread further, let's just keep the talk on the great mod.

Hey Halftrack, don't know how far along you guys are before releasing your beta, but I found this post in the map section that you might want to look at and possibly incorporate it into your mod. PecanTheVictor made this map with falling snow and it could be a great touch to some of your maps (unless, of course, your mapmakers already figured out how to do it).

The Mod is shortly before release, major bugfixes are over, I just am tweaking some GFX and skins here and there... Mod has not been heavily playtested, but I think we will let this do the community....the few guys that will stiay for 1.71
ETA 10 days, and the first 1.71 beta will be online.

For some minor issues, we urgently need a C++ coder, anyone who could help us, (maybe a day of work, if not less ) can drop me a pm, that would be fantastic.

  33. #83
Probaly dump question...But where do you need C++ coders for in CoH? (and another dumb question...what is C++)?

No, not a dumb question... C++ is a programming language... I need
somenone for some extra stuff... not for the CoH Mod itself...

    Aha, now I understand thanks

Oh. I'm doing some coding at school, and might do some C++ sometimes, but don't know much about it other than that. What you trying to do?
