What to look for in hw2.log if you are having graphic problems.

    Hi,

If you are having graphic problems, it may be because you don’t have the latest video card drivers. Please look into your hw2.log file. (I.e. it’s the file that UberJumper has been asking you to post the content of on the forums). By default it is located in your C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2 Demo\Bin\Release folder. The useful lines of text that we are looking for are at the top of the file:

    Case #1:
Using ATI Technologies Inc.'s 1.3.3842 WinXP Release RADEON 9000 PRO DDR x86/SSE2 renderer (Suspected driver is atioglxx.dll 6.14.10.3842)

    Or

    Case #2:
    Using NVIDIA Corporation's 1.3.1 GeForce4 MX 440/AGP/3DNOW! renderer (Suspected driver is nvoglnt.dll 6.13.10.2940)

    Solution:

Case #1: These are old ATI drivers (3842). The latest known working version for ATI is 3878.

Case #2: These are very old nVidia drivers (2940). The latest known working nVidia drivers are 4523.
The nVidia driver will report either AGP or PCI. You want AGP.

I have also read reports of a slideshow problem. It may be related to the PCI motherboard problem. Please read the following thread and make sure your motherboard has the latest drivers.

    http://forums.relicnews.com/showthre...threadid=14517

Thanks for your feedback, and I hope this will help some of you.

I'm having the slideshow problem (graphics are moving verrrry slowly as soon as I start the game). I've tried all the in game video settings none of which fix it. And yes, my AGP card is in AGP mode, the aperture size is 256mb in my BIOS settings.

    2.8Ghz Pentium 4 w/ HyperThreading

ASUS P4P800 Deluxe - Latest BIOS is installed (I just flashed last week).

    1024MB DDR3200 RAM running at 800mhz (it's a dual speed motherboard)

GeForce 4 4200 - Latest release drivers - 45.23 - confirmed in both desktop settings and DXDIAG - no conflicts.

Onboard soundcard (I doubt its this, I ran the game with the -noSound parameter and the problem continued)

Various other games run just fine.

    HW2.LOG as follows:

    Emulation is Bad!

    Hi,

It shows that you are running with the GeForce4 emulator:

    Using NVIDIA Corporation's 1.4.0 Buzz/emulated by GeForce4 Ti 4200/AGP/SSE2 renderer (Suspected driver is nvoglnt.dll 6.14.10.4523)

    The keywords here are "Buzz/Emulated"
There's another emulator called BoomBoom (if memory serves me right)

    Here's how to fix it:
You need to download the NVEmulate.exe and disable the emulation

    Here's the link

    http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv30_emulation.html

    Good Luck!

RedDragon: aah! TNT2, I'm afraid to inform you that it is below min-spec and will not run Homeworld2.

motiv-8: I have read the info you've posted in another thread, and I can't think of anything that would make your system crawl. By any chance do you have programs running in the background.

Your setup should be more then enough to handle the game.
Sorry that's not the answer you were looking for.

Please help. I've got a Intel Centrino 1400 w/ a Geforce 4 420 Go and 512 of Ram. The game runs extremely slowly, even at 800x600, and i've shut down nearly every process running in the background. My HW2.log file is included below.

Have you guys at relic figured out how to fix ATI Radeons (I have 9800 PRO) not showing shadows correctly (major zigzags and framerate loss)? There have been many complaints about this.

Perfectly fine answer. There's really little else to be done.

I used Max-Mem to free up about a hundred megs worth of RAM, and tweaked my system with a proggie called CacheBooster. They helped tremendously. Now, I can run at 10x7 with full detail and a little AF/AA. Still kinda jaggie, but at least now the opening sequence is less choppy and the only problems I have are at Tanis and during close-up cinematic sequences. Good enough for me!

    Thanks for trying.

    Fafnir:

Note the "Suspected driver is 0" line... that indicates (to me anyway) that you don't have the latest drivers. Try to install newer ones?

    5th:

I heard there were new drivers coming for the ATI cards to fix some HW2 problems... don't know if they're the ones that were released today or not.

Fafnir: First it looks like you have old openGL drivers:

    "Using NVIDIA Corporation's 1.3.2 GeForce4 420 Go/AGP/SSE2 renderer "

with an nVidia card it should be 1.4.0

Also if that doesn't help there is another odd thing happening, from your log file:

    "error executing GetAssumedLatestDll() in driverConfig.lua
    error executing GetAssumedLatestDllVersion() in driverConfig.lua
error executing AdjustForBadDrivers() in driverConfig.lua "

This means the video settings never get initialized properly.

It is possible that driverConfig.lua got modified and is no longer of the proper format. You could try reinstalling the demo.

    I hope this will help.

Hello, I think I am having a "slight" problem with my Graphics Card, in relation to HW2. It's a GeForce MX440 Go (I have a laptop). Here is the information from the log file.

Hopefully good news for both of you, (I like it when it's easy):

LordHaha: You are using ancient nVidia drivers
    "Using NVIDIA Corporation's 1.3.1 GeForce4 440 Go/AGP/SSE2 renderer (Suspected driver is nvoglnt.dll 6.13.10.3240) "

the latest version is 1.4.0 and 4523.

    Astro-Boy: Same thing
    "Using NVIDIA Corporation's 1.4.0 GeForce4 Ti 4400/AGP/SSE/3DNOW! renderer (Suspected driver is nvoglnt.dll 6.14.10.4467)"

    Just update to the latest.

Where can I find the latest drivers? I checked nVidia's and Toshiba's (the company that manufactured my laptop) websites and did not find the current drivers for my Go card.

Lord, you can download any Detonator driver. They cover every nVIDIA card from the TNT to the 5900 Ultra.

I have downloaded the latest Detonator drivers, but they do not seem to support my card. Indeed, a cursory check of the area of nVidia's website where one can download the said drivers reveals a line of text that loosely states that "The GeForce 2 Go and the GeForce 4 Go series cards are not supported by these drivers, contact the people who manufactured your laptop and buzz off."

After searching Toshiba's website, I only found a pair of 9 month old drivers, hopelessly out of date.

I have seen some "very 3rd-party", "modified" Detontator drivers floating around some webpages that would be compatible with my laptop. However, they are most definately not official and I am leary about installing them on my laptop. But I also want to play HW2 rather badly, so I may give them a try.

But if anyone knows the location of official and current Go-compatible drivers, I would appriciate it. I haven't found anything in my search, and I'm getting desperate to play the demo properly.

each time i install it i place the game into a new random dir and creat a new random name profile... and the error ALWAYS apears...

what else could be the problem ??

mobo drivers are the latest... latest nvidia drivers...
    could it be soundcard ??
btw... i just made a winxpsp1 clean install.. and im still getting the same results...
it is frustrating not being able to play something you have been w8ing for almos 3 years.

HW2's requirement for a card that uses hardware T&L was known well in advance of the demo...

Radeon 9000/9100/9200/8500. All of these are quite cheap and do a fairly good job of running HW2.

Note that it's also not getting your correct graphics card driver info. You might want to double triple check for things like viruses or what not.

Try deleting the HW2 demo download file from your cache, and downloading it again also.

The 45.23 nVidia drivers should solve that black problem.

If it doesn't then try running HW2 with the -noVBO parameter. What motherboard do you have?

Add the -noVBO command line switch, it just helped fix A176's problem.

You still haven't acknowledged that your video card drivers are still screwed up (at least to the game anyway). Make sure you try re-installing them.

Greetings to everything, I apologize for my English, I write with the help of the online translator. I have the same problem as lrdgrd game is loaded up to Universe and then crashes, I searched for the reason and have found her. I had disc in the CD-rom, I have pulled out it, began to load homeworld demo and at loading a level game has deduced the message - Insert a disk with game. What disk is necessary for it I do not understand, in fact it is a demo version....

As my Dell Dimension 2100 with Celeron processor, 128 RAM and an Intel Graphics Controller card doesnt seem fit at all for this game (does anyone know if its possible to add a GeForce card to it?), I might buy a new Dell LAPTOP (as i will be travelling alot soon).

Will this be suitable and which minimal model do you guyz recommend ?

Bear in mind, regarding to hardware, i am a complete N B

From what i've gathered the main problem would be drivers that arnt up to date. But I have 4523 and when i try to run the demo the screen goes black and then goes back to the desktop. This is what it says in Hw2.log.

    Slowdowns when close up.

I played the Homeworld 2 demo a couple days ago (and haven't stopped sense) but I noticed that in the beginning of the campaign that the game seemed to be slowing down. I saw the requirements and I did not understand how these slowdowns could be happening.

    Required Minimum System Requirements:
Operating System: Windows XP, 2000, 98, and ME
Processor: Pentium III 833Mhz or AMD Athlon 833Mhz
RAM: 256 Mb RAM or greater
Video: 32 MB OpenGL Supported hardware GE Force or better (with Transform & Lighting) ATI Radeon 7500 or better (with Transform & Lighting) Requires DirectX 9.0 and a compatible driver.
Hard Drive Space: 1.2 Gb Hard Drive Space, plus space for Direct X 9.0 drivers, saved games and Windows SWAP file.

    What I have:
    -Windows XP
    -Asylum GeForce FX 5600 (256MB)
    -Penitum 4 (2.4Ghz)
    -Ram: 1024MB DDR
    -80GB (25GB free) and a 60GB(1.44GB free) <<<HW2 is NOT here
    -Direct X9.0

I have all of the gfx settings maxed except the resolution. (1024x768)

I experience slowdowns when looking too close to the mothership and on the first mission when the mothership is docked to that huge friggen thing (I don't remember what it's called). I also experience slowdowns with a couple of frigates flying around.

Also... is there anyway i can see the FPS in HW2?

well... the solution to my problem was.... ehhhh.... actualy, there was no solution. BUT... i can play the game in Win98... but NOT in winxp... the drivers are the same and all.... si i really dont get it why it does work on an older OS instead of the newer one.

if some of you are running winxp/2k..... try installing in another partition (or any other method) an older OS like Win98... and see if that does the trick... (i know... installing a whole OS just for a DEMO... but... some of us really want to play HW2 :P__).

hope it works for you too.

    my 2 cents.
