    Bugs list

Well I havent really played the SP much, but I'll go on about the MP a bit:

    Multiplayer

    • Whispering in lobby: It keeps changing players who you are whispering to, so you end up giving the pass to the next player accidentally. Ive noticed that you can stay in whisper mode and just click on another player, click back and it should be ok again. It seems to keep dropping down to the player under the player you are trying to whisper to.
    • Lag Stops: If a player is lagging (I guess this is the cause), the game just stops. Sometimes it restarts, sometimes it doesn't - this bug happens to me in half the games I play and you need to just abandon it. BIG problem.
    • Quitting games: You seem to need to quit to Windows every time you leave an MP game that hasnt finished properly. It wont let you retire the game in most cases.
    • The dreaded "grey" games: Seems to be caused by either firewalls or routers on the hosts computer. Basically, these people can't host games at all - this accounts for about half the playing population at the moment.

There are more which I'll try to add to as I remember. Basically, the multiplayer is currently bugged to all hell. Its awesome when you can actually play a game, but unfortunately, this is limited to about 1 in 3 or 4 games at the moment - the rest have something wrong with them. I hope the release version is a bit more stable.

edit: sorry, just let me add that I LOVE the game - Its just frustrating at the moment playing MP caus of the bugs.

Maybe someone has found an answer to this while I was asleep, but:

When I try to join a MP game (not a grey one) the connecting screen comes up, then there's suddenly this beep and the game freezes and I have to use ctrl alt del to get out....

The same happens when I host a game and press the back button... The game freezes

I haven't gotten a chance to try multiplayer yet (with the paper I have to finish by tomorrow and all), but in the readme it mentions needing to open ports 6073 and 2302-2400, and forcing Homeworld to use a specific port. Might this solve the problem, or does it lie elsewhere?

SP has not many bugs that I noticed, but I managed to get one of the sequences get stuck in the sensor manager mode.

HW1 send you back into normal mode whenever a sequence was going to start. I just played HW2 demo and in the first level with the Vaygr bomber attack sequence it got stuck in sensor manager...

Not a real problem... only a minor flaw...
    The Dark one has Arrived.

Most major bugs I've seen involve the lobby and setting up games.
Games are registering as full when they plainly aren't...people are coming up with Version mismatches when the versions match...People are randomly getting kicked out to the lobby when trying to join a game...

It kinda all works, but the gamespy bit is a tad buggy.

    Gunship Bug

I actually had a bug with my gunships, launching from my carrier in the centre of the map in a vs CPU game. Instead of going into formation, they stacked up inside each other. Tried building another gunship squadron and they too stacked up. the ships themselves were non-responsive.

Still have yet to encounter MP bugs... perhaps I should give it a whirl

I had the exact same problem. The ship geometry for entire squadrons clipped through each other in one place, and they were stuck, too. They got mowed down by the enemy CPU "Raiding parties". The AI is just like in the original Homeworld. Long before you ever could, the enemy has mustered a huge fleet and sent it out to disrupt you...

Were your gunships operating near the central wreckage on one of the maps? Because the debris, i think, messes them up. I just moved my carrier backwards a bit and the gunships reoriented themselves and unjammed.

Have you tried selecting them all and hit Parade Formation Hotkey?

You know what, I think that's what does it, having an object in front of or around the ship performing build operations. I moved my mothership closer to the "resource formation", and that's what happened...

Before I get started, know this, I have great respect for Relic and this is a beautiful game, but the MP is eat up with bugs. The OMO's online last night were able to get around 5 games going - none of which completed properly. We concentrated on the 4 player map. Following are the bugs I remember.

    1) Joining a game - The games we were making were pw protected. After the game was up, the player quickest on the draw to get the password in usually had no problem entering the game. The other 2 players would either get the connecting screen for around a minute after which they may enter the game or may get an error message "cannot find host"; or after entering the password and clicking ok, no connecting screen would appear and you would have to go through the process of selecting the game and entering the password several times before it would give a connecting screen.

    2) During the drawn out process listed above where we were waiting to get everyone in, occasionally the game would drop a player. This dropped player's chances of reconnecting were maybe 1 in 5. Generally we just remade the game.

    3) On one occasion during the above process a second identical game appereared in the game list. Even more disturbing was that we could see people joing the pw protected game even after we had dissolved it.

    4) Now assuming we launched the game, it launched very quickly - very nice. However, in all the games that we played, at least one player got dropped. The game would freeze and the host would get a lagging/drop request box on the player. Sometimes it would recover, sometimes not. All OMOs that were testing were on either cable or dsl connections.

    5) This is a minor probelm, but an annoyance. When the MS was close to the resource bundle, the collectors would stop harvesting. And it didn't have to be all that close for this to happen.

We will be testing again tonight. And yes, I feel that is exactly what we are doing - beta testing. This game doesn't appear to have received very much online testing. I would suggest that Relic set up a formal bug reporting process ASAP. Its too late for the retail version, but maybe we can get an early patch.

IMHO HW and HWC's only, and I do mean only weakness, was its net code. I am not a programmer and have no idea of the difficulty in writing such code, but HW2 does not appear to be in any better shape than the first two, worse maybe at this point. I play many other RTS games online with no where near the connection and sync difficulties presented by the HW games.

All that being said, the game sure is purty.

no the cpu isnt as the one in homeworld1. i played for games and im able to kill the cpu in hard mode without problems. in homeworld1 the ai was cheating but i managed to fight 4 cpus in alone. the ai in homeworld1 was just dumb and bad. The Ai in Homeworld2 instead isnt that thumb but i think it could be a bit harder

    biggest bugs i had.

i have the greyed out games too and im not able to host a game. i tried to forward the ports but this didnt work. i even tried it with forwarding all ports (1-65535) but even that didnt work. i tried to force homeworld 2 to use a specific port. negative didnt work. I also tried the DMZ host of my router which usually gets me out of the firewall and i have no problems with now game. but also here. negative. nothing happened. after 1 and a half hours i gave it up. I hope this will be fixed till the full version appears.

Well if there had only been a public beta test.

    Heres a Gameplay related "Bug"

Platforms move along with carrriers, for multiple carrier moves.

    is that supposed to happen?

If you need to play a mp game and know the hosts ip, use the tcp/ip option instead, works 100%.

Can I bitch about Gamespy now?

But this doesn't work either. I've got all recommended system requirements.

strato: in options click 'default options' or whatever it's called and try to run the tutorial.

Interesting Mnementh. We didn't try direct tcp/ip. We will try that tonight, but to be honest one of the funnest parts of playing MP is playing total strangers. I have no intention on advertising my IP to the world.

A few people at Sierra, including myself, were doing the tutorial.

The very last objective would get stuck, when you have to click on an objective beacon. After a minute, for me at least, it would jitter back to life and the Tutorial would end.

ALso I saw the wavy line effect among the background art, but I'll have to tweak my card I'm sure.

I have just experienced a spontaneous crash back to the desktop in the middle of a MP game. No idea why. SP and everything else plays/works fine and it has only happened the once...

post your hw2.log contents, it's located in:
    C:\Program Files\Sierra\Homeworld2 Demo\Bin\Release

if it's really big, start a new thread, don't want to clutter this one up too much.

you see i warned you guys about the multiplayer portion of the game. It seems that it has many of the same problems like C&C Generals. people with routers cant play multi, most importantly the demo doesnt even let you select ports. I hope they really fix this issue. damn you gamespy!

It randomly crash for me when playing, online or in games VS cpu.

never hapened in singel player, must be some leakage in memory i think, must be something with masses of units..

music would sometimes just pause suddendly without fade-out and then immediately start playing again, but a different track, i think it's about blending from action music to ambient music.

    SP

Now, I'm not sure if this is a bug but in the SP campaign I can only play the furst level. I finish the first level then watch the 2nd cinematic and it just crashes to the desktop. Everything else runs fine.

The backgrounds and engine glows (on cap ships and frigates) have that banded effect to them -- where they look like they're on 16bit color when I'm actually running on a DirectX9, GeForce 4200 128MB, with 32bit colors, AA set to max, Anisotropic set to max, brand new nVidia driver, etc. etc. Please, someone help me with this, I can't enjoy the GREAT game because I'm always preoccupied cursing the poor graphics of the backgrounds and engine glows.

It did this to me in Homeworld too. Is this an openGL problem?

Might have seen this somewhere else in the forums, but really should be here. Advanced sensors for the carrier has the textures on the inside, ie. when you look at it, you see what would normally be the occluded side.
