You should just have a Beserker riding on top of it, and it can become the new KWE relic unit. Is that a 'just for fun' unit, or is it going to work somewhere? Looks fab!

  4. #1004
That is simply amazing. Congratulations on such fine work! Is that going to the Tyranid/Splinterfleet mods, publically released or has it some more ominous purpose?

This'd fit well with the Splinterfleet... It looks very nice, just as everything else, though I feel few of the buildings could need a final touch with the roofs. Guess it's the curse of showing unfinished work, I know.

Yeaaaaaaaahhhhhh whatever buddy. I think most Greater Chaos Daemons would stay clear of a HieroPhant considering the sh*t that thing would dole out. A Tyranid Creature of that power and shear size doesn't stop against anything.

I can't speak for catwell here but I doubt that heirophant is for any mod in particular. It's been along standing goal of the community at large, especially with the backing of thudo who has constantly pushed to get all Warhammer 40k assets modelled. I think under the surface of the modding community lies most of the units from the 40k universe that have been modelled and textured or animated and are just awaiting a missing process before being completed. There's so much going on that people just don't know about.

Hats off to the modding community.

Hmmm.. I thought the Hierophant > most in War40k but is obviously < Norm Queen thus Hierophant would be equal or better than a BT? Regardless, if would be an interesting match.

Not really, although the phant is a titan of sorts (bio-titan) it goes down pretty damn easily. In TT, Hierophant vs a Space Marine titan = a very large gloopy biological mess on the floor, even a smaller class of titan could down it without a lot of trouble, I'd love to see a warlord class vs a hierophant... SQUISH! =P (I think it's the Warlord anyway, oh well, there's one that carries a whole space marine fortress on it's back =P)

What do you consider a Space Marine Titan? Warlord Titan is Imperial and thats beyond an unfair comparison to a Hierophant considering what a Warlord packs (its the smaller Imperator's brother). Anyway.. this is about Khorne after all. I'm all for a wee Grot riding the Phant [oh I smell a possible DoWfiles PotD]

actually all titans are owned by the legio mechanicus, or heretical mechanicus, which ally themselves with legions or squadrons.
even the banelord on the front of this thread would be a chaos titan legion unit not a world eaters unit per say. heres a list i found of chaos titan legions
    * Death Hands
    * Flaming Skulls - Colour: red, orange, yellow, black
    * Fire Masters - Colour: orange, yellow, grey
    * Legio Mortis (Death's Head) - Colour: red, black
    * Legio Vulcanum - Colour: yellow, dark green, black
    * Legio Vulturum - Colour: silver, white, black
    * Storm Lords - Colour: blue, grey, black
    * Tiger Eyes - Colour: yellow, white, green
    * Warped Dogs
most titans work best at ranged as there void shields dont work in melee. and really titan melee weapons are designed for titan on titan or titan on machine fighting. theres really no leader or strongest unit once you reach gargantuan level, its a level playing field where anything can defeat anything else if it has the luck, tactics, and correct placement

In epic, one of the advantages of the Hierophant was its ability to cross dangerous and difficult terrain with fewer (cant remember exactly how they worked) penalties. Catwell's right about the Titan organisation. The hierarchy is basically Adeptus Mechanicus - Collegia Titanica (Titan Legions) - Divisio Militaris - Individual Titan Order.

If I remember my fluff rightly, the Codex Astartes removed transport rights from the Divisio Militaris (unsure about the other 3 Titan Divisios - Investigatus, Mandati and Telepathica) for sure, and caused the name change for loyalists from 'Legion' to 'Order'. As each original Legion generally had few titans, this wasn't as drastic a change as was invoked with the Space Marine Legions. The Divisio Militaris is now officially dependant on the Imperial Fleet for (interstellar) transport. It can be assumed that as branches of the Adeptus Mechanics they have some shit-hot in-system ships, their own landers and deployment ships etc, and just hitch a ride with the Fleet for Warp travel. The Traitor Legions being unbound by the Codex, in all likelihood still operate their own transports and support personnel unless totally corrupted.

ok just been working on the bloodthirster, hes more or less built, and im working on the textures. im on to the 3rd 1024x1024 texture map for him atm. he'll probably end up with 4-5.

Wow. How much of hit does having so many hi-res textures have? I'm thinking about upping the detail on the titans, and that many textures would look sweet.

Don't # of applied FXs have a greater impact on frames then textures? I remember 1-2 years ago Shin mentioning that. That makes sense as KRMZ/Fred's WH_AS project has some of the most detailed textures BUT it runs better than Kavey's Nid mod because they use alot of FX (and rightfully so).

ah im not sure how the engine handles fx textures( all fx are the same as textures, but there just floating instead of being on a model)
with textures once its loaded, its loaded. so if you have 100 units all with the same texture it only has to load that texture once. therefore no drain on frame rate( least not because of texture size, poly counts another issue). whether it does this for fx textures in not sure but i assume it does.
with regular textures, army painter has to be taken into account, as each ap file is a layered texture and is multiple times larger. 6-7 times the size of the original non ap file, as its made up of the original texture being divided up and each of those divides being the same size as the original tex.
however fx churns out a number of textures per second, having them entering and exiting the game world quite fast, plus theres the calculations for the fx that the engine needs to do as fx is dynamic and changes as things move or on there own through particle fx. plus theres the issue of transparency eating into code( not sure how much of a drain that is) and the issue of fx texture size. how all this affects performance is subject to "try it and see" as i dont think anyones tested the limits.

  23. #1023
catwell relic should hire you to make there models at elats then we'd get some decent enough stuff. i still dont get y they didnt get the witch hunters mod makers to work for them.
    For the Greater Good!!

  24. #1024
dude dont start comparing modders to the developers. the last thing we need is to start attacking relic.
Acceptance- Seeing how hopefully shitty you are and moving on.

  25. #1025
The thing with mods and performance is that by the time this is finished, PC tech will have got better and cheaper.

Or I'll turn the settings down.

With regards to the above, true, but I concur that they should consider hiring catwell.

Awesome work on the axe catwell mate. Look forward to seeing the BT texture.

    Wow Catwell!

    Splendid work.

    I have a question.

Why did you make a hierophant? Is that for this mod or the Tyranid mod?

Well it happened before over soulstorm.

I'll repeat the same arguement as last time. That whilst I prefered the modders models and textures, Relic had to take into account getting DOW to work on as many computers as possible. They could have squeezed more detail into dawn of war but didn't end of.

Is this a complete remodelling of the bloodthirster or did you reuse anything?

well dow came out ages ago(ergo the models were fitting for the hardware at the time), its surprising its lasted this long as most games filter out of being played after a while.
with soulstorm the workload in order to add 2 new races and a new campaign is massive, plus it was given to a third party who prob aren't as familiar with the pipeline as relic(who built it ) and they prob didn't have much time to do it in either. so they didn't do too bad considering the issues on them, but it did lead to a glitchy game.

the bloodthirster is totally scratch built. and the hierophant was a type of tutorial that failed, i was filming it as i made it. but it didnt pan out. its not for any particular mod so any one could use it. though i think it id be better if it was in a mod with similar style. so not in a mod with kitbash or dodgy models or stand ins

    Great work Catwell:

Anyway even though relic hasn't changed like any of the models since the first game, they are now coming out with dow 2 which has amazing models and the surroundings are beautiful so I'm pretty sure that will make up for it. Plus all the new kinds of gameplay they are adding to the game.

Actually I remember reading somewhere that the model for the dreadnought in DoW2 looks identical to that of DoW. Whether thats the case remains to be seen but you'll be surprised what difference a brilliant texture can make to a lack lustre model.

I'm going to agree with Jaguar-Lord here, AshaD, stop taking the thread off topic with Dawn of War 2 comments. That has nothing to do with the thread "Khorne World Eaters Mod" and you should know better.

Jaguar-Lord, please report things in future however, don't backseat moderate.

aand the bloodthirsters in game, phew. one issue with it is the same issue that we had with the guo, it keeps over simplifying the mesh. im guessing because the settings are set for something far smaller, ive tried all the lod stuff with the guo with no success, so im not sure what to do ...

I have to say if this is all Khorney and super cool will it work with vanilla AI? I mean I swear to god unless I spam the hell out of CC units they never get in melee as the ai spends more time running away and spamming turrets so a CC based army seems like it wouldnt get its claws as bloodied as I'd like it

Theres a -forcehighpoly command you can add to the end of the executable I believe.

Correct me if I'm wrong that might be a -fullres command. I know there is something in the local.ini to, whether thats the force high poly option I don't know. I would look it up but i'm not at home.

edit; ok ive tried everything i can think of to fix this, with no luck. so i can only think of one other possible solution, which is to tessellate the worst areas affected. any one got any ideas?
