FAQ
Q: What is Company of Heroes
A: Company of Heroes, or CoH like we call it here, is a realtime strategy game, developed by relic entertainment and published by THQ. It is set up during WWII, especially during D-Day and the follow-up events.
Q: What are the minimum system requirements?
A:
MINIMUM
• Windows® XP or Vista
• 2.0 Ghz Intel Pentium IV or equivalent or AMD Athlon XP or equivalent
• 512 MB RAM
• 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 64MB video card with Pixel Shader 1.1 support or equivalent and latest manufacturer drivers (see supported chipsets below)
• DirectX® 9.0c compatible 16-bit sound card
• 8x or faster CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive
• Keyboard, Mouse
• 6.5 GB of uncompressed free hard drive space (We recommend having 1 gigabyte of of free space after installation)
RECOMMENDED
• 3.0 Ghz Intel Pentium IV or equivalent
• 1 GB RAM
• 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series or better
REQUIRED FOR MULTIPLAYER:
• 1 set of discs per computer
• For 6-8 player multiplayer or skirmish matches, the Recommended System Requirements are strongly suggested
• Internet (TCP/IP) and LAN (TCP/IP) play supported. Internet play requires broadband connection and latest drivers. LAN play requires network interface card and latest drivers.
Q: I have a problem with my game. Can you help me?
A: THQ provides Technical Support for the game. We will however do our best to help you out here. Head over to the Technical Assistance Section of the boards, read the stickies and make a thread with your problem.
Q: What races are playable?
A: We don't call it races in this games, we prefer sides. This game is about Axis against Allies. So since both are humans, well, you get it. With the opposing fronts expansion there are now four sides. Whermacht, Panzer Elite, British, and Americans.
Q: What? That's called evil Nazis man!
A: No it's not. It's Axis ingame and we refer to this side exactly as Axis. The Nazis were an ideology that did the world no good. This game is about strategy, not about good and evil, politics or history. There are no swastikas in the game as well.
Q: Oh come on, at least let us discuss history and politics on the boards!
A: No. If you want to do that here, you're on the wrong forums. Do that wherever you want, just not here. We have a very strict policy on Nazis as well. Do not spread Nazi ideology here or try to convince people of your stuff. Doing so leads to a permanent ban, have a look here as well.
Q: WTF happened to freedom of speech?
A: There is none. You're on a privately owned and operated forum, freedom of speech doesn't apply here. For details have a look here and here.
Q: What about general WW II history then?
A: Well, we're trying out a new WW II history forum here. Mind it's rules please.
Q: Does CoH have Singleplayer?
A: Yes, CoH has a singleplayer campaign where you get to play Able Company from D-Day on. The Opposing Fronts expansion also features campaigns for the British and the Panzer Elite on the german side.
Q: Does CoH have Multiplayer?
A: Yes of course. You can play via LAN or internet on relic's own internet platform, known as Relic Online (RO) and is run by Quazal. It supports up to 8 players per game.
Q: Is there a ranking system?
A: Yes there is. If you play ranked automatch (use the Play! Button in RO) you can advance from PFC to General of the Army on both sides. There are ladders for 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4.
Q: Is arranged team automatch available?
A: Yes!
Q: Are there patches for the game?
A: Yes. So far the game is on version 2.301. The game will automatically update when you go online. If you encounter any problems there is an official patch site here where you can find the English and the international versions of the patches.
Q: So what got changed?
A: You can find the changelog for patches in the patch. Well, and maybe we also have stickies for the changelogs of each patch so you may use the forum search to find them.
Q: What about Vista and Direct X 10?
CoH supports DX10 since patch 1.7. And it's not just a "Let the game run faster!"-patch, it adds real DX10 content, better lighting for example and new objects in the world. You can put your High End System to good use with this game.
Q: Is there an expansion?
A: Yes, Opposing Fronts is a standalone expansion which adds two new sides and is backwards compatible with the original Company of Heroes.
Q: Anything else?
A: There is another expansion incoming, named Tales of Valor. You can find info on it in this thread.
Q: Can I mod this game?
A: Yes you can. For mod tools, finished mods, work in progress and the like please visit our Modding Section, the Armoury
