Modding - How To?

Before HW2 releases, can someone set me up with a ''quick-start" guide to modding HW2? I've looked through these forums and everyone here knows how to mod already.

Except me. Just point me at a tutorial or two, and tell me what programs I'll need / Files to extract.

In a nutshell, we don't know for sure. For HW, it was a simple matter of extracting files out of the .big file, changing them, and *poof*, you have a mod. Now, however, all of the files within the .big file are compiled so until we get a de-compiler (which Relic has said they would be eventually releasing), all we can do is look around. Check out this thread to learn how to extract files from the .big file.

Well as far as I know, HW2 is mod friendly, just not the demo, so we're all not sure on a lot of stuff. Sure we have file structure and a working .big extractor, but we still haven't fully cracked the .hod format (see other threat in Tanis Shipyards) but they're working on it. The best as of right now is modding Vaygr ships in singer player, but it's best to wait for the offical programs provided by RDN before going in gun-ho I think.

the only thing you can make for now is modelling ships...no tools has been released yet so you cant change ships stats for now or looking the script files...they are encoded...
for the 3d modelling you can download some free progs

and maya ple will be available this fall on their site
you can find good tutorials on 3DTotal
if you dont want make custom ship you will have to wait for tools
