[Gen]The Rumble Revisited: The 3rd Shooting Challenge

  1. #401
I totally would've massacred the conscripts, and had a good mix of weapons for taking out the Techmarine too. Stupid dice gods.
Master Rahl, teach us, Master Rahl, protect us, In your light we thrive. In your mercy we are sheltered. In your wisdom we are humbled. We live only to serve. Our lives are yours.

I'm sorry Brian this is a really hard one for me to get into. The fact that the ladder standings haven't moved for like 6 rounds might have something to do with it. I check this thread pretty often though I don't post.

Once my team lost a round or two it was pretty much sealed and I lost interest.

It's pretty notable that the three teams in top placing all have a majority of Space Marines or Chaos Marines on their teams. Anyone without Marines on their team are all the wya down at the bottom.

    Pretty tough.
Only one of us is going to leave here alive and it ain't gonna be me!

No one is above the law...of physics.

  4. #404
Yeah, to follow up on dooks' point, its great all the work your doing, but there isnt really any participation left for the players anymore, hence no real reason to post.

Carry on though, im enjoying watching those two do all the work

Meh. Not really though, like Sword's Rusty Wok starts out bright but fails afterwards so that they can't enter the Finals at any chance.
As for MEQ standing up in the ladder......It's still somehow related to luck anyway, no matter you believe or not. Some strong squads of MEQ will still kill themselves/flee by minimum casualties.

Still, as I mentioned your team Raging Angels still have chance to kick into Finals, as the ladder is pretty close (well, it does being fixed for a few rounds but the point differences are just too small than in Moo's CCC in the past).
I'll get the last round done ASAP before I have my exam, and by any luck this should be finished in mid-January.

ps.Remember that teams that enter finals will have some time to rearrange their unit positions, so potential entering teams may start to think about that.

Once is bad luck, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action.

Basically it might be luck but when all 3 teams who are majority Marines stand in the top three slots I think it becomes pretty clear: get some marines on your team or lose.

The teams that started off well that were not Marines were hitting soft targets, once they faced off against the tougher MEQ teams they got smashed up and dropped.

I'm not saying anything negative but the trends are pretty obvious and clear. I do appriciate the amount of work that goes into one of these and I comment you on it. Moofreaky should have contacted you about our joint venture for the begining of the year?

He did. He just hadn't came back from his vacation to do anything ATM.
And meh, it's not me who purposefully put so much MEQ in those teams, it's all by drawing ballots and teh teams afterwards have the chance to adjust their units for 11-round combat. Perhaps next time we can distribute one unit of MEQs into each team before drawing eh?:P

On the other hand, aside from Moo's request of the challenge, I should stop to run these for a while.

Take in to account we are still using that old Chaos Codex in this challenge, the new one's kinda different.
They've tone down the MEQs in newer Codexes (CSM, DA, BA)

Kill for the living, kill for the dead!

  9. #409
Actually if you think about it, some of the Chaos units are unbelievable for a shooting challenge.
I am thinking of Thousand sons and Plaguemarines in particular.

Thousand sons have 4+ inv and AP3 bolters. Thier big drawback will be the requirement of the asp sorceror though. Could mean there aren't enough men.

Plaguemarines have T5 and FNP. That alone is amazing for a shooting challenge. Plus they can have the two special weapons even under 10 models.

That's why some measures should be set up for Fearless models. Such as Fearlessness wound in this case, if not normal units will be screwed horribly.

Not yet, I'm still messing around with my exam materials. But I promise, by worst, this challenge will end before February comes.

    ==============================================
    The fights are now over.
The teams suddenly shakes violently, and teh earthquake breaks up the mantle, engulfing the teams which are incapable to do well.
After the earthquake, it's clear that there're just 4 teams left. Facing each of them is a bridge, leading them to a open ground which has a tunnel entrance.
Whispers within the tunnels seems to tell the teams that: "Come, to the final stage of your fights."
The teams then move on. No matter what lies ahead, they must face it.

Elsewhere, Commander HunterSeeker is preparing his weapons.
    This is the real deal.
    And he won't lose.

    NIGHT VISION WOOHOO

That was some awesome Martyr'ing by WBC.

If the Falcon was glanced by a Meltagun, doesn't that mean it was moving fast enough to crashland from Immobilized? Or is this yet another Eldar perk.

    lol @ ammo runts

    Edit for Bets:

    1. Sounds like it could be Tau
    2. Buncha battlesuits; range means nothing so fireknife will probably be replaced with some extra fusions and flamers.
    3. MAP!
    4. Hmm, I'd like to say myself, but TheShadowDuke's entry has proven itself to be pretty strong too. The Noise Marines are lacking a tad in MEQ v MEQ action I think, though they're great against lighter infantry and vehicles. Meh, I'll bet on myself, and cry all the harder if I lose :P

Gotta get the thing roll faster.
    ==============================================
The teams went through the tunnel and enter a large, enclosed dome. It seems that this place is built inside the mountain. The door is locked behind so they must advance.
Inside they can see statis cells hanging around, within are all sort of units: Imperial ones, Chaos, Tyranids, and many more. The teams can even see some of their defeated foes. Frustrated, they continue to move on.
Finally, they arrive to an open ground, with something standing upon the stairs.
Then a voice speaks:"Welcome to this place, all of you. You're all the best of the best among the chosen units throughout teh galaxy."
Without hesistation all the team fire their weapons at once, but it doesn't work. An energy field is protecting those people from all those firepower.
"Show yourself, coward!" One of the crowd shouts.
But darkness still shrouds that guy.
"I am Commander HunterSeeker as one may call me."
"What's your intentions?" Another person asked.
"You all have been chosen to this place to fight against each other, like those breathens before all of you. See those statis cells when you come in? Those are the powerful yet failed samples, and will be studied by our people in order to create more powerful soldiers."
"You dare use us to help with your own agenda?" Another person shouted angrily.
"So what? Now don't waste the time. All of you should fight again, until there's just a single team left and I'll fight with them. Using all sort of datas collected fromthose before all of you come here, I've already made my best bodyguards."
    He paused for a while.

"If you can defeat me, you can leave this place. But before that you must fight. THIS IS THE RUMBLE: FIGHT OR DIE."

The ground quickly divides the teams so they can fight with each other. Each team knows that they can't lose here and now, and with the knowledge about their well-known foes, gunfights erupt again.
And the commander is just standing there smiling.
Soon enough, all the combat knowledges from all races will belong to them, it just takes time.
Their superwarriors will be created, and no one can stop them by that time.
They'll then be the strongest in the galaxy and retrives their past glory.

    my last boss entry

    ==============================================
    The Championship
It will be fought like this: The First and Second place will fight each other, while the Third and the Fourth will fight. Loser of the later round will be eliminated from the Championship, while the loser of the former round will fight with the winner of the later round, and the winner of this round will fight the Top Team.
The team who come out at the top will fight the Last Boss.

Top Fight: Marines Against Plasma vs Witches, Bitches and Communists
MAP get the best record in the past fight, only losing twice. W,B&C is pretty unstable in records, but their shapes are still good due to the Sisters' Faith AND they indeed defeats MAP in Round 2. It'll be the most awesome fight.

Survival Fight: Battle Knight Marines vs Team Banana
Like MAP, BKM consists of all MEQ units. Their strengths is the ability to mow down enemies in grater numbers of shots. Team Banana, on the other hand, while not as tough as BKM do, has proved their value by entering the Finals, and they had a close match with BKM in round 8. But this time only 1 team will live.
    ==============================================
    ATTENTION TO ALL FINALISTS!
You now all have 4 days (till 13/1 if you're too lazy to count) to discuss with your teammates about the reposition of your units. Remember, you can only rearrange the orders of how your units will come out, NOT changing any sort of equipments/settings/etc. Only positions. After the agreement is made, just post it right here. After all of the teams have confirmed (or no one responds till it's 13/1) I'll start the ball rolling.

Your team modification will be your own team's busniess and I have no parts in it, nor I'll help to contact anyone. I don't care how you contact your teammates (E-Mail/PM/IM/Letter/Phone/Blackmail/etc.) but if no finalized team entry is posted for your team, your team will fight in the order as before.

So, let's kick in for the discussions.

Haven't heard from my teammates but I think our original order will be fine. We'd have to wait for WBC to post in order to ZOMG COUNTER-ORDER them, but even then we're all equipped pretty similarly in this matchup I think in terms of AP and such.

    the MVP of the round

    -----------------------------------------------------------
With the results if the first round can be seen, the victorious team of the first group is raised high upon a plafform, while the defeated team of the second group siddenly got grabbed by the tentacles around and being dragged into the ground, never to be seen again.
That means the remaining 2 teams can only have 1 to live and fight against the top team.

    The Revival Round

    the Revival Round

    ------------------------------------------------------------
Another team got sucked into the ground as they're defeated. With only 2 teams left in the scene, it's inevitable that they have to fight each other.

The Dice God is intervening the Finals again......Meh.
OK, here it is. The FINAL BATTLE.
    ==============================================
With the other defeated teams got sucked into the ground, just a single team stands against the Commander.
Just when the 3 squads attempt to fire at the Commander, their firepower are all blocked by an Force Field, just like before.
"You all did well, far exceeds our expectations. Now I'll gve you an offer: Lower your weapons, and serve for the Greater Good."
"Cut it. The Emperor won't tolerate such trenchous act from you, alien." The Space Marine Sergeant answered.
"Tell us what's your purposes!" The Nurgle Champion asked.
"That's simple. After we had worked for so long, we'll be able to collect the combat data from all the races, from which we'll create super warriors of our kind."
"Then what?"The Slaanesh Champion demanded the answer.
"We'll retrive our past glory once they're finished. Since the Damocles Gulf Crusade, external threats from all kind had disrupted our prosperous empire, and which we must help the Empire to rebuild its strength for the Greater Good."
"The so-called Greater Good won't help your race to survive in the universe, alien." The Sergeant answered.
"You'll know that soon enough, Tau. Like the Dolumar Incident, your kind will perish."
"Cut this crap." The Commander said, "I'll show you what's the strength we consisted of!"
The 3 squads then reform their positions, ready to fight.

This is the last battle. Only one side will live.

    Last words:

This is the end of this Third Shooting Challenge. This arc is settled for now, but by the words in the Epliogue, it's still possible for any further Shooting Challenges linking up with this arc. (I just can't think of any right now, and there're already some Challenges here to boot)
The only thing I had to say is that the discussion atmosphere seems to be worse than the 2ndSC, and I don't understand why. Meh, actual life>virtual life, afterall.
Still, there're some flaws for working out the rules and I apologize for that. But generally speaking the whole thing goes smoothly and I appreciate that.
Again thanks all of you for your participation in this game, and I'm looking forward to see you in my games in the future. None will know when, but surely it'll eventually come. (Those who're in Moo's Challenge will see me soon enough)

Yep; and when they killed a foe and advanced, you had the best chance of living through the free shots, whereas sticking Jackster last meant he dealt the free shots a lot more than he took em
