    'Old' New Infantry combat system

We've made some code changes and exposed some tuning variables for the 'old' infantry combat system, which will be in patch 2.77 shortly. Because this change is relatively extensive, we're holding off on additional tuning changes to infantry combat.

This change will require some objective testing from the community and we'd appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks!

    Quinn

It would be great if we knew exactly what kinds of tuning and experiences we should look after Quinn. But thanks for the heads up anyway!

Good to hear, and I'm sure this communication is appreciated by all, certainly by me.

It's more of a 'feel' thing.

Okey, if the old-new system is anything like the old system i guess we will notice. Since i noticed the new-now-old system on day one.

Since this is probably going to develop into a discussion thread on the topic. Let me say that constructive, meaningful comments and feedback are what Relic's looking for. Don't post the usual "wtf this sucks" or grandiose statements & opinions without testing it first. Theories and opinions based on actual play testing are the stuff they want. This is a chance to let Relic know. Posts deviating from this are subject to deletion/warnings/airlocking, etc. Play nice.

    Great,
Inf battles are fun once again.

But has some minor bugs like new faction units, for example commandos still use crippled targeting system.

It's a global change. Commandos use SMGs, so their damage is naturally more spread out.

So assuming Relic decides to keep the system, it'll be implemented on the zero day patch or the next patch after that?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    After.

Wow, great! My question is though, is it the exact "old system" or is is a new system which resembles the old system?

Off to try it out now, I'm curious how this will effect infantry combat in then new armies.

    THANK YOU RELIC!

I'd tried it out now. I would say that it's some kind of mix between both. I feel that my squad get criticalled pretty easy, but they seem to have an easier time retreating.

Game becomes more fun. especially 1vs1 and 2vs2. Where the impact of a squad living or dying is much larger.

But heck, i guess it could be just a placebo? Maybe quinn is just messing with our heads O_o

It's much better now, my Rifle squads actually dropped one by one (easy to see since they are a 6 manner). Unfortunately Americans are still radically underwhelming versus both Axis unless you are using Rangerspam atm, really depressing :\

  20. #20
lol riflespam works as good as ever against wehrmacht so dont say that they are underwhelming lol.

the bren upgrade is an absolute monster now, basically 2 lmg42 for 75 munits at the start of the game.

I didn't riflespam, i refuse to as it is a shitty tactic, I went with the combined arms approach and Armor doctrine. While calliopes are still very good, the pershing is a real puss now. Only good for killing stuff Panzer 4 and under, if it sees a Panther or a couple storm/gren squads, it's done :\ Trying to kill the Vet 3 Bionic Wehrmacht horde while they shreck your tanks is really an exercise in futility :\

The only effective counter to infantry hordes is the M10.....nuthin like grens in your treads

I haven't played on the newest patch yet, but if you can hold out till calliopes.....

One clean barrage on the PG blog is pretty much game over for the PE player

Quinn, does that mean all the changes in patch 2.77 won't make it in the release day patch?
That's a shame cuz its got alot of good stuff.

Eh, I'm sure it wouldn't be too long after.

I am excited to play this with new changes. I will provide whatever feedback I can! I'm glad to see that you listened, and after I heard the reasons that you made these changes in the first place, I felt disappointed it was received so poorly, because in theory it sounded excellent. I'm sure it was a very difficult decision.

Unfortunately, I can't play tonight... I promised my girlfriend I would play some MMORPG with her... But feedback for now is, thank you relic for listening to the community as far as I am concerned, this company is the best in that respect. I have met none others who listen to the community so well.

This new infantry system is just horrible. Squads can no longer attack things without being completely picked off on approach. Please to be changing thigns back :-/

U mean infantry hordes can no longer run about anything? Now u need skill and use cover? Good!

  29. #29
this is really a stealth buff to the US. rifleman horde is now actually good versus PG horde.

If its true that Panzergrens lose to other infantry now... well... honestly I felt that the Panzergren blob needed a bit of a nerf... (This is coming from a enthusiastic Panzer Elite player).

I have not played yet so I will reserve my judgment of course... but I am not opposed to the idea of Panzergrens being a little weaker...

if its true that the new-old system is a stealth buff to riflemen and a stealth nerf to pg, then i think most is well. i that case americans might not need too many more buffs.

    nerf rangers.
    buff wirbelwind.

those i feel are the most pressing issues atm (which are actually not too pressing).

Really helped the balance. Americans stand a chance vs PE early game, but they still fail mid and late game to Marders (w/50% bonus vs American tanks), MP44s + group zeal, and mortar halftracks. Rangers help them hang on but again, lame reliance on one unit.

A big step in the right direction. The PE horde has been nerfed.

OF finally feels a bit more like Company of Heroes. Since day one something felt "different" about OF, and not necessarily in a good way, but now that its been changed back, it feels like playing COH with more stuff to play with.

Overall it feel so so much better. I wont comment on balance though, as I haven't played enough games with the "old" system in OF.

Perfect summary, the game just got 100% better almost overnight! <3

Haha, I bet they didn't even change anything and they're just doing this to prove that everything is just in our heads and they can manipulate us into stopping our incessant whining just by faking some patch notes.

PS- I'm not a paranoid conspiracy theorist. Really!

I've been playing a bit, but I haven't played enough to really notice differences. Something does feel... "better"... not really sure what it is, maybe it was another change or something... but the games I've been playing feel more true to the CoH feel. Can't put my finger on it but... I like it

It wasn't broken. Why did you try to fix it?

    You can't improve upon perfection.

Go back to vcoh 1.7 damage system tbh
    Hoping CoH2 Ships With Worldbuilder....

So, any news about if this will be patched in again or not? After comparing the two systems more its even more obvious that the 2.77 one is alot better. With the other one more infantry is always better as if you have the supperior force you will win with few or no losses thanx to all the damage being spread out. This encourage infantry blobs.

It should hopefully pop in later, having the new infantry system in ranked games is really a bummer :\

I just played a skirmish game or two as PE. As far as PE are concerned, I see no difference whatsoever to the combat. I had my FJ(no way in hell am I gonna try to type that name out) squad down to like 25% health and still had all 4 dudes. But they were picking off the american Riflemen with ease. Looked like, to me, the americans have the old system, but the PE still have the new...rather bleh..one.

I thought they were suppost to put it in the 0 day patch?
If not, well, dunno then. :x

the vcoh infantry combat system doesn't seem to be in the retail OF.

I hope we don't have to wait long to get it in a patch.

Ahhhh..alright. Because I was being saddened seeing my FJ's have 25% health and still be there. Almost lost them a couple of times.
