Questions about COH + OF ;-)

I remember when COH came out I havnt good enought computer to play it ;P And now when the expansion is comming out I remind myself about this game and want to ask :


Is
AMD 64 3000 ATHLON
GeForce 7600GS o/cled so it's slighty better than 7600GT
1.5 gb ram
1. enought to play COH on internet?
2. How many players online there are?
3. Im from POLAND, so i'm worried about pings maybe?
4. When the expansion is comming out
5. Is this game worth a online-play? I'll be probably playing only 1v1 ladder VP or 2v2 for fun ;-)


Thank you for answers, I do not care about graphic detals so much, but I've 22" CRT monitor so low resolutions looks like crap :@, 1024 maybe? capable of it?

Relic games have fantastically low hardware requirements...i was playing dawn of war's expansions with a laptop that didnt make the min stated specs for years(although as some people will testify, i lagged horribly in large player games). Also i am from Singapore and players in asian are next to nil, but still internet lag wasnt a factor. You are in poland and will have tons of euro players to play with. Dont worry.

2. How many players online there are? loads. not as much as larger games (starcraft, warcraft...) but still enough for you to get a game basically any time you want.
3. Im from POLAND, so i'm worried about pings maybe? you might lag with US opponents, but at the times you will play, you will probably get mostly european players, so i wouldn't worry.
4. When the expansion is comming out next week. buying it on release, myself.
5. Is this game worth a online-play? I'll be probably playing only 1v1 ladder VP or 2v2 for fun ;-) most definitely. the AI sucks balls compared to a human player, if only because of the diversity of strats it (doesn't) use.

question in the middle: Yes, you will; i have a worse comp then you do, and i run it at 1024x768 (i just hat 800x600; never play on it, even if it means lowering other graphical options).

No; buying the expansion only gets you two new sides (the Panzer Elite and the brits), but it is standalone, so you can get it without vCoH. however, by this time vCoH probably costs much less then the original price, so i'd go for that. Plus, the americans and wermacht are your more "traditional" sides, as they have a mix of defensive and offensive units. Oh, and if you can run CoH you can run the expansion.

and the play count, is it about 100, 1000, 5000, 10k, 15, 20k players?

so without expansion I will be unable to play standard COH multiplayer? I do want to play multiplayer, thats the point ;-) the singleplayer doesnt matter that much for me

i haven't heard of a gold vCoH+OF set, but there might be one.

at peak time, it reaches slightly more then 1000.

the best CoH site is probably gamereplay.org, and to be fair, i havent heard mof many others.

it goes like this:
if you have vCoH: you are able to play as americans and wermacht online, as well as play the american campaign.

if you have OF: you are able to play the british and the Panzer Elite online, as well as the british and PE campaign.

If you have both: You are able to play all sides online, as well as all campaigns.

some stuff added in OF (weather effects, King Tiger instead of Tiger ace for the Terror doctrine of the wermacht, balance changes, etc) will also be added to vCoH users via a patch.

1. Sure it is, I played 4v4 games of COH on a less powerful PC.

2. Above 1000 or slightly below it depending on the time of the day and day of the week.

3. It's not that bad most of the time, unless there are only people from asia or australia online. Finding a game with decent pings then is hard. There are lots of players from europe so usually pings aren't a problem, sometimes with luck you can easily play with people from north america with no lags.

4. In Poland it will come out in november unfortunately. As always CD Projekt is making us wait longer than the rest.

5. It sure is, personally I never had as much fun while playing any other RTS online. Some battles are really epic.

As for buying it, I recommend getting the original COH first since it will be some time before OF comes out here and you'll get those discount points for registering if you plan on using gram.pl to buy OF. Plus COH costs only 60 zloties now.

You will be able to play against OF users and armies online even if you won't have OF.

Well assuming you bought the polish version of COH distributed by CD Projekt there should be a small card with a registration code inside saying something like "gram.pl kod rejestracyjny" and the code below it. You then go to gram.pl, register an account there and then register the game itself by the add game or register game button. This should add discount points to your account depending on how much did the game cost, you can use those to buy stuff cheaper usually around 20% cheaper at the gram.pl online store.

yes, the gap is very big. but then, there is plenty of competition at the lower levels.

CITIZEN, BEWARE CANADIAN PIG-TRICKERY
OF is set to sell for $40 by itself, but if you wait about a month there is a CoH "Game of the year" edition supposedly being released at the same price. Either they're repacking CoH with a couple new maps and selling it for more than the current price of it (CoH's currently $30, this is set for $40) or they're going to be selling a combo pack with CoH and OF for $40. Either way it seems kinda stupid, but might be worth waiting a month just to be 100% sure that they're not releasing a combo pack.

One of my friends have CoH installed but without a valid key (let's not talk about the why here...), he's asking me if buying OF will let him play as the Americans or Wehrmacht online or not? Or does he need to buy the original CoH (to get a valid key) to be able to do so...?

I would say no. I suspect you would need to have valid keys for both vCoH and CoH:OF to be able to play all 4 armies. In OF there is and 'add product' option in the Relic online sign in screen, where I guess you enter your key to enable the other 2 armies. Tell him to buy the game.
