Very nice work as usual. I wish I had the eye to give you some advice, but I love seeing the pictures.
I really like the color transitions of the blueish metal of the IG tanks and the warmer yellow of the marines!

What may man within him hide, though angel on the outward side
Thanks. I'm open to suggestions if any crop up. Given the scale I'm trying to give each army a different overall color tone. Guard is red/brown and blue gray. Titans are gray and gold, and Marines are yellow. I'm thinking of doing a Tau force (traditional brown) and I'm undecided on the color for the eldar I'm planning.
I digress, it's time for the weekly update: Here are the completed IF Scouts and Terminators marking the end of these critters and leaving one full battle company of infantry to go. All plastic too which is a welcome relief from epic metal infantry that can be a pain to get mold lines off of.
Slight change in plans, I'll still do the baneblades next week because they need finishing and my IG is laughing at me being this close to done. However the Drop pods were calling me (Ok, it clears out 4 blisters which gives me space for the rest of the stuff) so they will be next up for the fists.
I also decided to go a bit nutty with the banner this time to see if I could pull it off at this scale. I'm pretty pleased with the result and I have a better idea how to go about this next time. Enjoy.

Wow, I guess micro painting epic banners doesn't draw much interest. Perhaps this weeks update will! Everybody loves superheavy tanks, right? This final batch is the lucius pattern Baneblades. They were quite a blast to paint and it brings me one step closer to a complete IG army. Just have 9 chimeras to go.
Next up though are a pile of drop pods that are assembled and ready for priming.
![]()
I thought I had posted on your banners. Sorry Vaaish, those were really impressive. My epic banners are... Less than impressive X_X. But damn, those Baneblades are a sight to see. Very nice flow between the blue and metallic colors. Don't suppose you'd be willing to give one to me, =P?
Thanks, but noI need all I have for my own army. You could order some from FW (they still have the lucius BB) and pay me to paint it though! :P
And the fists keep rolling off the assembly line, this time it's the drop pods for the reserve company finished a day or two earlier than expected despite the rather large distraction a package arriving and its Marine landing craft beckoning me to paint. Tough call to paint that or finish out guard this coming week. Either one has some conversion work to be done. For the LC it's putting a cover over the hole on the bottom rear and bulking up the spine so it looks like it can carry as many marines as it's supposed to and for guard it's the last of the chimera conversions.
Well I digress from the subject at hand, so without further blathering, here are the drop pods. Enjoy!

Vaiish, you have some awesome stuff here. Can't believe how much detail is in each of these mini minis. Really wish I knew anybody to play epic with.![]()
Death holds no fear only for the fool. An Astartes' duty is to control that fear and turn it into a blind hatred of the end of his life, for it brings with it the inability to fulfil his duty to the Emperor.
Thanks! You should get up a couple of small forces and see if you can get ppl at your LGS to give it a try or even dig out their old collections. It really is quite a bit more fun to play than 40k, especially if you are fond of maneuver and more complex objectives dynamics.
I think the reason why there are so few posts from other people is because we have run out of synonyms for awsome and dont whant to be repaetative.![]()
Violets are blue, Roses are red, I am coming aboard, Prepare to eat lead!
aww... they can't that good and it is encouraging to hear from others![]()
I decided to take a break from painting this weekend to do some prep work on a couple of marine detachments and assemble the landing craft I got last week. I decided that it needed a bit of something to make it feel a bit more substantial so here is the result:
![]()
Tonight's update though is the last of the commissioned IF assault detachments. If all goes well I should see about getting the dev detachment underway this weekend before hitting a couple of the forgeworld thunderhawks. While I'm working on that I'm also slowly painting up the landing craft, but I'm working to push that to a higher paint level than I've tried in epic scale.

DROP PODS!
Sorry, I've been gone for awhile.
I really just can't get enough of your Epic posts. So what did you do to the landing craft to make it more substantial? It's a good looking ship and I'm curious to know how you've converted it.
I look forward to seeing that painted to "a higher paint level" than yous usual, already impressive, Epic work. They're such wee tiny little guys!
Any chance for a close up on the Assault Marines? From afar they just look yellow.

Nice job on that transporter conversion... that's the kind of work that I can't even tell is a conversion after being painted. I just sit there looking at it wondering why it looks so much cooler than the one I put together out of the box...
Haha, I have to force myself not to check this thread too often because everytime I do I have to check myself to not to break down and buy an Epic Imperial Guard Armoured/Mechanized regiment!
Thanks! Instead of trying to explain, I added the bits that are highlighted in blue on the attached pic to the epic lander. It basically gives more bulk to the front of the craft and the whole centerline so it could more feasibly hold the number of marines it's supposed to. As for painting, I'm taking my time with this one so it'll be substantially longer and I'm building up layers of wash as I go plus more time spent on highlights and detail work than I normally do. I basically want this to be the centerpiece for the marine army so I'm taking a longer time to paint it.
Just for you, here's a higher res of the assault det:
High res image
@ZD Probably not. I've posted a couple of full army shots of the marines and titans a while back, and IG will be along as soon as I finish up the last 9 chimeras.
Early update this week as I finished up another devastator detachment tonight for the commission leaving me with only the two tactical detachments left as far as troops go. Looks like the poor guard are on hold once more as the next thing to hit the painting table are two FW thunderhawks.
Enjoy!

Looks like I follow up my quick posts of the last two detachments with a longer interval for these. I've not been dead, just trying very hard to get a couple of forgeworld thawks painted up for Cal and not kill myself over my grad class the last couple of weeks. I've also start working with a couple of new techniques for weathering these since they are larger than most models and I don't think my previous weathering method scales well. I've also working out a few different color patterns with them since they are so detailed. I just changed a light in my studio so I think the color balance is a bit bright on the yellow with these.

Not alot of feedback from the last couple of postsWell since i've not updated in quite awhile, I thought I should probably post this. I'm not positive I'm totally finished with this one, since I might tweak a bit of black and boltgun on the top and bottom. However, despite that I'm pretty happy with this over all. I think my hew technique for chipping paint works much better overall than the previous brush method although there is still a place for that. This model was just to push my overall painting skill so a lot of work was put into highlights and the like. The last two images can be expanded to show a bit more detail. Enjoy.

When will the madness end?!!?
Thanks for the updates - I'm afraid I don't have much feedback though. That's what comes of posting a long series of "oooooh!" images, I think.
I do agree that the lander doesn't seem finished but I'm not sure what to suggest. Maybe some hints of text on the crenelations that cover the body? These could be made to represent wee tiny campaign histories painted onto the body of the vehicle. Very "Fist" and it would break up the solid yellow.
hmmm. I like that idea. I'll add it to the list of things later this week. Possibly right after the "fix the lights so yellow doesn't glow."![]()
Ok made a few adjustments, I think I'm going to shelve this one for the time being and if anything decides to pop out at me I'll make more changes. I think I've gotten the color balance issues worked out of the new setup now too so the highlights and shadows should be showing up now and the whole craft shouldn't look quite so radioactive.

Now we're cooking with gas - and I like it. Those little touches go a long way to break up all of that flat yellow space.
On to the next project and update, please and thank you.
The free hand on this beauty is insane Vaaish, a small scale model with an even more smaller scale icon painted on. Madness.
Do I ever feel too old to play 40K?.......Nah.
Growing old is inevitable.
Growing up is optional
Aessar - "Threads, unlike Necrons, aren't supposed to rise from their graves."
Thanks. I think the next couple projects will be some IF dreads and the last nine chimeras for my epic IG force. After that I'm debating hitting the last speeder detachment for my marines or returning to 40k for a larger dread conversion.
I forgot to post this in the craziness of my birthday and shipping things off, but here is a SC stand I did a few weeks ago and didn't get posted:

And I'm finally done with all 4100 points of my IG force. Future acquisitions will probably include another two epic40k bassies and 3 SG manticores to have a full artillery company in addition to the upgrades for the infantry companies. I'm also keen on a couple of russ formations or counts as for them but that's a ways out.
This now completes all three of my existing armies minus a couple of bits I'm still adding to the marines (Speeder detachment, dev detachment) Next on the plate are to finish up the six epic dreads for Cal before I move back to do some heavy conversions of their big 40k brothers.
After that it's a toss between necron and biel tan eldar.
The chimeras:

I vote for going back to the regular 40k marines! I miss them!

Now THAT is an impressive site. I must second the jealousness. I can hear my own Epic chimeras still sitting in their blister-box begging me to get to work.
Thanks! I forgot to mention, the barrels on the chimera turrets are all converted since FW stopped selling the multilaser versions before I could order.
#482
Awesome stuff. While I always enjoy the Epic updates I have to say that I'd love to see what you do with some Necrons. I really enjoy the models and don't typically see them as anything other than drybrushed metal models. I think you could one up that just a bit.
Sorry Justin, I meant Epic necrons and biel tan. Way back when I was first getting into 40k I did almost go for Necrons though.
However outside of the epic commission work I'll be posting in the coming weeks, the major projects are two converted 28mm marine dreadnoughts for my chapter.
I am amazed... seeing that epic army just made my day.
#486
Ooh, more Epic from you either way, eh? Then I say Eldar. I'd like to see how you pull those together.
Yep more epicI'm a little torn because the necrons would be a quick army to do but I'm leaning toward the eldar since it's one of the official lists and necrons are having a few changes made.
In the mean time, it's update time again, and here are the dreads I've been working on this week. I've got to say these are some of my least favorite of the current epic line. The proportions are really screwed up on them and the detail isn't the best nor are the poses (Everybody dance now comes to mind). All in all though, I think they turned out pretty well.
I'll be taking a break from epic for a few weeks to work on some heavy conversions of these guys larger brothers. After that I'll probably be hitting the last of the epic razorbacks if I don't work on them while mulling where to go on the conversions.
![]()
Mini dreadnoughts brilliant. Are the Hurricane bolter ones conversions? If so I salute your mini conversions skills.
Thanks, but oddly enough those are the stock missile launcher arms for the epic dreads, not hurricane bolters. The epic designers took a slightly different approach to their look than the 40k designers.
I return to 40k with WIP shots! I've nearly completed the front torso, just have some GS gap filling and sculpting on a few joints and I'm trying to decide if I really want the cartouche in the middle.
I'm also a little stuck on what to put on either side of the aquilla on the lower torso. I'm thinking of perhaps adding some tubes or armor plate. After that it's finishing up the casing above the head and the shoulder armor before moving to the legs.
![]()
#491
Tubes. Definitely tubes. No Dreadnought is complete without a convoluted mass of unarmored tubing in easily identifiable weak points.
#492
There's really no reason to say more. Aquila nailed it.No Dreadnought is complete without a convoluted mass of unarmored tubing in easily identifiable weak points.
I'll see if I can come up with something that looks good. Then on to top of the head and the difficult cuts for shoulder armor.
May i suggest in the recess of the head for vulnerable tubing?
There we were, ready to charge the loyalist scum, and then suddenly we were under fire from our west flank. Batshit mental. We turn to return fire, and somehow they sneaked a bunker in, right next to us! We didn't have any meltas so we got the hell out of there. CREEEEED!
Tubing up by the head makes it too busy and there really isn't space for it there. I should have another update tonight some time when I finish the tube joints on the center torso. After that the difficult work of cutting the shoulder armor off to reposition it comes before moving to the legs. With any luck though I'll have the conversion work done by the end of next week and I can start in on painting it.
Hooray! Normal 40k!
Also, i vote for the tubing by the aquila on the torso
More progress on the dread, I believe I've got the front center torso and top done except for detailing which I can't do until I finish the shoulder armor. If all goes well that will be done by the end of the week.
![]()
after much time lapse due to going out of town for a weekend and having to get my installation thrown together for my grad class, I'm back with the completed torso. It would probably look nicer with a bit of primer to help me find any remaining gaps but for now I think I'm ready to move on to the legs. I'll be redoing the shin armor, extending the leg length, adding groin armor, and adding armor to the tops of legs before moving on to finish up the modifications to the arms and finally getting ready to paint.

I've been putting together 2 Dreads today.. And it struck me that they don't come with correct arms.. they have a Multi Melta as standard, but there's none in the sprue :o then you have to be creative
@ the dread.. this is very nice.. can't wait to see it painted![]()
"For thousands of years we've waited in the dark, but now is the time to awaken and take what is rightfully ours" Unknown Phaeron transcript intercepted by Inquisitor Gabriel Khain
Magic: That is because in the 4th edition codex the standard dread was not with a multi-melta but with a Assault cannon. So I guess they just havent redone the the sprues for it as you can get a multi melta dread from the AoBR Box.
Vaaish: That is one beauty of a dread so far. Love your work with the plasticard. Very nicly done and it looks completely perfect. Thumbs up!
