Nice addition to the sword, definetly feels mouch more like a power weapon now.

That's really nice work, one of the best power weapon paint jobs I've seen. Kudos.
Thanks y'all. Right now the biggest thing I'm trying to figure out is what to do for the shoulder pads. I'd like to do a sculpted chapter insignia and maybe wreath on one, but the other is somewhat eluding me. perhaps I'll simply coat it in GS and play around.... worst case I pull the GS off because it looks like trash.
ok I got the pads GS'd and the backpack painted. gotta sand the GS when it cures and paint tomorrow.

yay this thread is back! Is that GS pressed or sculpted? It looks amazing
Lovely GS work on the shoulderpads![]()
The Gs is sculpted, no molds this time. It's the most complicated thing I've tried to sculpt at that size and I'm pretty happy with it.
Very nice GS work especially for sculpting.
very sweet gs. i do like the metallics of the commander.
the only thing imho i think is odd is the green bolt pistol.i think that bolt weapons matching in color is odd. again thats just me
cant wait till its done.
Accepting commissions. PM me!
My Cmon
Well got the pads all finished up so that leaves the head and base to finish up. Might start on the head tonight but either way I'm shooting to get it completely finished by monday night.

he's looking very majestic.. keep it up

Finished up the commander tonight. just letting him dry a bit before sealing the model. Very nearly destroyed the model by dropping a can of black spraypaint on it, thankfully it missed both the model and base. I'm also debating adding in the iron halo, but I can't think of a good place for the thing.
So here he is, Ma'a-Kherew, chapter master of the Nesewdjet-Nedjety

Awesome - just goes to show hard work and dedication pay off, but that wont stop me from being lazy. muhahaha

He looks spectacular. Especially all the details on his armor!
Forged in Vulkan's fires, we are stronger than steel!
Dude thats awesome, its been a pleasure watching the WIP of your chapter master and to see the final product of your labours.
Love the green glowing effect on the sword.
The painting is great, but I'm not sure about the colours. I think that the base really needs to lift the colours of the mini, because at the moment they are too similar to those you have used on the mini, so its a bit bland to look at.
I like the model and painting as well, but while looking at it, I began to think along the same lines as Susurrus, there are too many similar colors. I realize the base was done to match the rest of the army, but in this case, his armor with the grass in view, makes the grass look like it just went through a nuclear explosion and is an even brighter yellow than normal.
Thanks. I see what you mean about the grass but I'm not quite sure how to go about that adjusting it, perhaps a wash of catachan on it or inking it.
He looks really cool - great job on the gs work (scribor's method on ornaments?). The painting could be better I' afraid. Don't get me wrong it looks cool, but I think the green, and the gold blends a little to much with each other. It could use some more contrast. Also I have a slight impression that the gold paint is a little to thick. Otherwise stylish![]()
I have a rule when painting, that I always use at least one bright colour on the model that contrasts with any others, just to lift it.. Doesn't have to be dominant.. You have red in the little wavy materially thing, so maybe just bring that out a bit more>
perhaps I can add a bit more red to the dirt and grass, but honestly I think that the only real issue is how bright that static grass is compared to the other elements on the base. The browns and yellows in the gold contrast with the green well enough, especially in the sword and the dirt of the base is darker in value compared to the golden aspects of the armor. I don't want the bolt pistol to appear glowing and it matches the standards I've set up for the weapons in my army since it's not master crafted. My philosophy is that the base should be subdued compared to the model. It should provide a believable setting but not draw your attention away from the model.
Had some time tonight and adjusted the ground on the commanders base so it shouldn't clash as much with the sword.

looks much much better now
I love that model and this is my favorite thread that ive been following since ive been a Relic member
Keep up the work Vaaish
Oh yeah, I like how it appears a lot more now. And it shouldn't stand out as being different from the rest of your army either. Great stuff![]()
Thanks, I think that should finish him up. I put him up with the rest of the guys I've finished and he fit in pretty well. If I get time friday I'm going to start painting up the plasma guy that remains for the first squad.
I'm back with the wip of my plasma gunner. This is the last guy of squad 1. But I lost the pointing arm I had picked to use and since i don't have another I'm trying to scrap together another pose. I'm having a bit of trouble with it and I thought I'd post here and see what suggestions popped up.
He's about 90% done right now with a few tweaks to the top of the gun itself and obviously the left arm. On top of that I have the chapter icon and company info to add to the pads.

left arm:
the wrist is rotated too much on that last one to look comfortable... maybe 45 degrees would be okay, but a fully hozizontal blade without any rotation at the elbow looks little odd IMO.
also is that arm attached so it sits slightly too low down, or is that just me?

the angle of the knife arm is fine, just tilt the knife/wrist up more and it should be good
and the gun arm looks too low maybe lift it up a tad
I think the knife arm is awkward, which in turn should make the gun arm look less awkward, as I believe fixing both will just make it look funny again. Though, I suppose the gun arm could be lifted just a eeny, teeny, weeny bit.
Thanks y'all,
I've made some adjustments to the pose but I haven't had a chance to take some pics. I think fixing the wrist and some tweaks to the torso and arm positions helped.... I'll see if I like it any better when I check it tomorrow.
Nice color scheme.

That ... that's a chaos plasmagun, isn't it? Burn the Heretic!
it is a chaos one, yes, but since there are no chaos markings on it I decided that it will pass for a more ancient variant of the weapon.
ok updated the pose and finished the shoulder pads. I'll probably glue him up tonight and work up the knife arm saturday.

that looks a bit more natural
i still think tho that the one handed plasma gun looks a little out of place
OK plasma gunner is done, that means the entirety of squad one is finished! only 3 more ten man squads to goI'm debating moving onto the first rhino/razorback or doing the the second speeder. I may come back with blue ink on the weapon to tie it together.

Damn thats a nice painted mini you have there Vaaish. Keep up the good work.
posting from work
Damn, that's looking nice. Really liking the earthy colours.
Thanks! Well on to the first rhino now. Should be kind of fun as I have to figure out a simple solution for extra armor that looks good and can be fairly easily replicated across 3 more models.
ok next update: started the rhino. Almost got all the pieces cleaned up and I finished magnetizing the rear door. I was trying to make the latch system as unobtrusive as possible since i hate partially blocking the door to get it to work. This method seems to do alright.

I got an old style speeder today and it just begged to be put together so here is the test assembly and light conversion for my multimelta armed speeders. I'm hoping to basecoat him mostly tomorrow and get the metals finished up.

as for armor on the rhinos have you thought about sandbags?
Yes, and didn't think it looked all that effective or appropriate. I'm leaning toward a bulkier plate armor attached to the panels and a psuedo reactive armor on top.
What is the grate supposed to do? For attaching things? I don't see it really stopping much otherwise...
Yeah I've looked at forgeworld but I need to do this to 4 rhinos in all and I don't want to spend that kind of money plus I don't think it really looks that much different from the basic model when using it, besides I'm having a bit of fun sketching up ideas to layer up plasticard in a similar yet more bulky way.
Sansa: he's talking about slat armor. it works by prematurely forcing the detonation of the warhead before it impacts the vehicles itself. Honestly while it is practical and works pretty well in a modern combat environment I just don't like how it looks.
On a different note, I've been trying in vain to find someplace I can get just the plastic tail fins from the land speeder model. Does anyone have any extras or know someplace other than the usual bits sellers I could get two or three of them?
the grate is so that rpgs and anti-tank stuff like that explode away from the tank there by decreasing the effectiveness of the round
You could try modelling reactive armour out of plasticard, that would be pretty easy and look good.
Well I finished up the front end of the landspeeder tonight and I'm hoping to start in on the back half and finish it up this guy over the weekend.
